  1. Man, that paint sure looks like the real thing from where I'm sitting... Nice job.
  2. I did this about 20 years ago but never really finished it 100%. I just busted it out of storage to finish it up. The can of blue spray paint I used is long gone (don't remember what it was) and the hood was sanded down, so I just shot it with primer. I think I might leave it like that! In fact I was thinking about maybe shooting one front fender with primer too for a "I just got in a fender bender and I'm working on it" look. I think this was my 1st or 2nd chop job. I also smoothed out the sides and made tailights out of a clear red tree, and made them flush with hte body. Frenched the headlights, and lowered it. The only thing left that HAS to be done is to install hte windshield. It's already cut to fit, I'm not sure why I never glued it in. Oh yeah, I will also foil the windshield trim and do the wipers. I'm on the fence on installing the fender skirts. I love the wheels so much I hate to cover them up, but it probably does look better with 'em. What do you guys think?
  3. Thought I'd post a few more pics of the progress. I finally got the interior in, although it turns out that I shaved a bit too much off the bottom of the door panels, but I'll have to live with it. Other than that, I'm real happy with the way it's turning out. I had it's issues but it was a fun one to build. All that's left now is installing the frame assy, tailights, bumpers, and painting the front turn signals. Next post will be in the "under glass" section.
  4. Did you have the same issue with the door panels? Man, that's a bummer on the rear bumper! I hadn't noticed that yet till you mentioned it. I just looked and, yup, that's gonna show.... What were they thinking?.... What did you do about it on yours?
  5. Nothing major. The frame is a little warped but it doesn't take much pressure to make it straight and will be fine once it's glued, the wheels are super sloppy on the spindles. I put about 3 thick coats of paint on the spindles to get rid of the play, and the license plate decals are too big for the plate they are supposed to go on. Other than that, I have been very impressed with the quality of the detail, and the way the parts fit together. Someone else here said they had no issue with the interior fitting into the body. Strange that one would be so different from another. Maybe you won't have that issue. I think I'm actually going to finish it this weekend. Window glue is drying now and tomorrow I'll be ready to assemble the frame/interior/body. Then it's just the grill, bumpers, lights and she's done!
  6. That is AWESOME!!! I would love to learn how to paint like that someday... LOVE everything about that car. And you totally nailed the stance. What are the wheels from?
  7. yeah, I had this color in mind for it, and when I saw this can in the store I said "that's it!" It's Testor's laquer "Fiery Orange". I think this color fits a '50s Chrysler product perfectly. I just bought the Moebius '55 300 which I'd like to do this color, too, but I can't do 'em ALL this color, I guess!
  8. Started this a couple weeks ago. This is the "stock" kit, not the "custom" kit. I've been on vaca the whole time so I've been working on it pretty steady. I'm very impressed with the way the parts fit together on this but I did have an issue with the interior side panels and the back dash being way too high as you can see in the first pic. I think I had already shaved some off before that pic was taken. I've got that pretty much straightened out now after shaving about 1/8" off the bottom of them. I just finished the bare-metal foil work today. That stuff is awesome! I'd say about 95% of the paint brush work is done. I probably won't be able to finish it before going back to work Monday but hopefully soon. I just put the body on the chassis for the pics. It's not quite ready to be put together permanantly yet. I'm building this one box stock.
  9. Hey thanks for all the welcomes! Pappy, Londonderry is about an hour and a half from me. Your avatar caught my attention because the AMT 340 Duster is the last one I finished. I built 95% of it about 10 years ago and just broke it out a couple weeks ago to finish it. She's Plum Crazy and I went for the "340" decal on the hood and not the hood scoops.
  10. I'm wondering if a problem I'm having was inherent in these, or if I just got a lemon. I was super impressed with the detail and fitment of this model until it came time to put the interior into the body. The door panels are way too high, like almost 1/8" over the top of the body's doors and the back dash sticks out of the rear window, again, about 1/8" too high. I'm in the process of trimming the door panel bottoms and the bottom of the back seat to make them mate correctly with the body. It's a pain in the neck because there's no good way to try it out without glueing it first. I've glued, tested, taken apart and trimmed 3 times now. I don't want to overshoot. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this and if you did, what did you do about it?
  11. Hi everybody, glad to find this site! I joined because I had a specific question on the AMT '57 Chrysler 300C but I'll start another thread on that. I've been building for almost 40 years. I remember building some Snap-Tites when I was 5 or 6 in the mid 70s. Mostly now I like to build cars of the '50s and '60s and enjoy modifying as well as box-stock, depending on the model. Hopefully with the help of this site, I can get to a show every now and then!
