fun9c1 replied to fun9c1's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I just created a netimages account. Figured I'd test it here... Hmmmm.... says "not allowed to use that image extension on this community"... what am I doing wrong, Lee? -

fun9c1 replied to fun9c1's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll do a photobucket or netimages account if I need to. I'd hate to delete images. I just wanted to make sure that's what I really needed to do before I did it. thanks!. -
I prefer to upload pics from my PC since I don't have a website or a photobucket, etc, account and don't care to get one. Every time I post pics, my "You can upload up to XX.XXKB of files" number gets lower and lower. Now it's to the point I pretty much can't upload any more pics (limit of 39.46KB now). Is there something I can do to continue uploading pics from my PC?

building a vintage junior stocker nhra 65 chevelle wagon......
fun9c1 replied to AC Norton's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Cool. I'll be watching. I have this kit- haven't opened it yet. On the wheels- I'm a big fan of steelies. I have them on two of my 1:1 cars, body color. I wish they came in every kit. I also like steelies on back with mags on front for cars that see a bit of 1/4 mile action. -
Looks like the tailights from the Revell "Special Edition" '68 2n1 Dart might work perfect. I hate to make a kit incomplete, but I already had the kit and opened it up to see if they would work, and was totally psyched to see that there are two sets of tailights. So if I do use ones from this kit it would be the ones meant for the drag version as I plan to build this Dart mostly stock someday, plus it's less cutting. If you're not familiar with this Dart kit, the tailights themselves are the same between the two versions (stock), but the drag version does not have the stock rear valance between the lights. Using the stock SuperBee tailights would look cool and it's tempting to just do that, but it would not be realistic as a 1:1 factory version. I'm thinking I might cut the "DODGE" insert out of the SuperBee tailights and insert that into the tailgate. I also just ordered some resin Dodge "steelies" and I'm working on creating some redline tires. More on that later!

Oooh- I like the name Rampage! I remember seeing those little things back in the day but never knew (or forgot) what they were called. Probably due to my lack of interest in wrong-wheel drive cars with half and engine (actually I did own an '89 K-car with a 2.2 for a litte while and I have to say it was a good car). Anyway, in my model's phantom world, it would be very conceivable that this would have been named a Rampage (the name fits this thing alot better than those '80s ones) and then Dodge recycled the name in the '80s. I like it. I think I may go with that!

If anyone has any suggestions on how to smooth up the putty in the concave area at the bottom corners of the rear glass area I would love to hear them!
-
Thanks, hey is that Charger on here somewhere? I'd love to check it out!
-
Thanks! Originally my plan was to take the bed of the Dodge Deora kit and use that bed, but it turned out that it was not big enough and trying to modify it would be as much work as scratchbuilding one. Only thing I ended up using off it was the C-pillars and back half of the roof. I might have tried using an El Camino bed if i could bring myself to sacrifice an El Camino kit but I can't! I am enjoying the challenge of scratchbuilding a bed. Cut the back half off the interior last night and made a new "back" for it, and got rid of the rear window cranks.
-
Very nice so far. I love the idea and will be watching as I'm working on my phantom Super Bee "El Camino", and I have to admit it is challenging me. Someone asked where the rear roof section came from. I'm guessing it's from the same kit cut out from the back? Keep going! I'd love to see the progress! Love the hubcaps, too.

So it's been about 9 months but I finally cracked this baby open again to get some more done on her. Today I got the bottom of the bed cut out and fashioned a piece to go behind the back window and got that glued on. Also decided in hindsight I should not have cut the trunk completely off, but I should have left a little on in the back for rigidity, especially since something would need to be there anyway- shoulda left some on. So I cut a strip off the back of the trunk lid and glued that on. Woulda been better if I left it on in the first place. Live and learn. As I mentioned almost a year ago, plans for this one are to be a factory stock (albeit a phantom one) A12 with a bed (still need to come up with a "phantom" name), factory yellow with a black vinyl top, and the black steel wheels and redline tires that an A12 should have. Nice to have some time to get back at it.

Awesome work so far! I hear you on not finishing. I try to make myself finish one before starting another one but that doesn't always work out... On the wheels- IMHO I think your scratchbuilt wheels on front and some steelies on the back, maybe with wide-whites, would be the perfect look.
-
Still a Loooooooong way to go, but I love it when it gets to the point where I can put it together just enough where I can start to picture it finished. The grill is from a "junkyard" '69 Super Bee I put in just for the pics. I'm psyched that I can put the chassis in without cracking the filler in the rear 1/4s. I was worried about that. Again, I plan to do gloss black steelies with chrome lug nuts and redline tires, but I don't have those yet.
-
What I would definitely do if it were me is I would build a rat-rod with them. Use the pieces but don't change them(especially the paint). I would definitely not screw with the paint on them no matter what you do with it.

I am not buying this for a second. Mike found an actual '60 Starliner rotting away in a field and he's trying to pass it off as his 1/25 work. Seriously, I can't get over this. It just blows my mind how realistic this is. I can't put it into words. Awesome job!

Curious on what I have here
fun9c1 replied to fun9c1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow, I really appreciate all the responses here! Gary, wow, it's like you put all my thoughts down into words. I agree with you. There is no way I would sell these and I hesitated to even glue parts back on, but the more I read everyone's opinions here, the more I figure they were attached when he was done with them and he did not intend for them to fall off, so gluing them back on only puts it back to the way he did it. I have decided that I will, at some point, clean them gently, put the loose parts on, the motors back in, and display it like that. If there are missing pieces after I've glued on what I have, so be it. William, thanks for the info on the MGA. Funny, my dad ended up with a '57 MGA in college (bought it to impress a girl, and she hated it!) and my uncle has a '60 or 61 that he's had for years and years. Not sure which one of them bought that little model. Bruce, as I said. I'll leave em as-is other than gluing parts back on, but as a "thanks for everything", I have a Lindberg '53 Ford Victoria that I am going to build just like the one he had which was his first car. That's my next project after this "Super Bee El Camino". Or maybe start it in parallel. Thank you all for the opinions and info! -

Hey Jesse thanks for posting pics of the boxes! Pretty cool to see what my dad saw when he pulled these off the shelf back in the day. -
No kidding? And I thought I was the first! Do you still have it?

Curious on what I have here
fun9c1 replied to fun9c1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just poking around that small bag of parts and discovered that I have the motors to the ones that are missing motors! The one on the left goes to the Vette, the bad boy in the middle goes to the hi-boy, and the one on the right goes to the Tudor Ford. The one in the middle says "Chrysler Fire Power" on the valve covers. The middle motor is quite a bit bigger than other two. I also found the missing headlight lens to the tan one (not sure what kind of car that is...) and the bezel and lens to the Tudor. -
Not a whole lot of progress lately, but the roof is glued on and in the process of being smoothed out. From what I understand, the A12s were available in four colors: bright yellow, bright green, bright red, and Hemi Orange. I'm leaning toward bright yellow with a black vinyl roof.

Thanks for the replies so far. My dad just turned 70 and is in good health. Just to be clear, I have no intention of selling these and am not interested in their monitary value. I'm just curious to have more info on them. For now I'm going to leave them exactly as-is. As they say, it's only original once! It is very tempting to do something with them, though... Here's one more I didn't show the first time. The MG (I think that's what it is) is a smaller scale, maybe 1:43? It's about 2/3 as long as the vette. -
Years ago my dad gave me these and a small bag of loose parts, most of which go with these. He remembers building the boat, but not the cars. Maybe the cars were my uncle's. Assuming it was either my dad or my uncle that built them, that would put them as kits probably from the '50s or early '60s.and they have pretty much all been together in a cardboard box I'm guessing since my dad & uncle moved out of my grandparents in the early/mid '60s. I'm not 100% sure if the vette was originally part of this collection or not, but I think it was. I thought you guys might enjoy looking at these, and any info anyone has on them would be appreciated like brand, box art, years released, etc. Right now my plan is to keep them as-is. Enjoy!

Very nice! Can't wait to see it with whitewalls (wide whites, I hope!).

Outstanding! I LOVE this one. I've never tried weathering but you're giving me inspiration. I LMFAO when I read the post about seeing a used tea bag and thinking modeling material. That's awesome! Keep the pics coming!

Rusty and Crusty- Awesome! Can't wait to see it. Already looks awesome as-is!
