  1. I started the 56 Nomad that a friend gave me. I have the engine about 75% done, and a lot of prep done to the body frame and interior. I mixed my Tamiya turquoise, and did a test shot on the interior. I am VERY happy with the color. I just hope I mixed enough. I initially thought about wiring the engine, but I think that's a bit over my head. If anyone has a good link to a tutorial for doing this I'd appreciate it.
  2. Thanks everyone. I had a good time working on this one. Much more relaxing than the ships. It gives me a lot more freedom and the parts aren't so dang small.
  3. I use to have that car, so let me know how the details are, I may be interested in building one.
  4. So since I was so far along, I made a cup of coffee and put it all together. The mirrors aintenna and wing went on with no fuss. I have to say that this is the best fitting model I've ever done. The kit almost literally fell together, and even though some of the mold pins were in strange spots it wasn't anything major. This was a joy to build. Here's what's in the garage next. It's Revell's 2 IN 1 Nomad kit. It's going to be turquoise and silver with turquoise and white interior. Lowered, but stock rims and tires.
  5. Work was crazy this week, so I didn't get much done (until tonight) I started out by masking and spraying the window trim. Once that was done I was happy I spent so much time on prep, because everything else just about fell together. I moved over to the front suspension and what they call an engine. Again this went smooth, so I rubbed down the under body to give it a little weathering, and moved on to the interior. Once again fit finish and prep made assembly quick fast and easy. I asked my boss and his GTI doesn't have the piping, so that saved a tone of time and frustration. The interior I think looks awesome, to bad this isn't a convertible. Now I was on a roll, so I decided that I should attach the glass. This was the first and only problem with the build. The four locator pins were not going to line up. I cut them out of the way, and the glass literally fell into place. so I added the tail lights and covers. The directions say to do the tail lights first, but it's easier to add the glass first. Now it was time to add the rear view mirror. This was the only major error on the whole build. I used CA, and made a mess of it. I wish I would have left the mirror off. Now I have a glue smear on the glass. Not cool, but not to visible.
  6. I'm chiming in so I can follow her build. I show my wife my builds and she's like, "Looks good" and then looks up. LOL
  7. I just looked at this one, and wasn't sure. Now I'm going to have to pick this one up. Thanks for the post.
  8. I just got some BMF, so I guess I made up my mind. Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to look into getting my spray booth set up so I can spray the alcad paints.
  9. Yes. Haven't looked at it yet. I'll check it out.
  10. Has anyone airbrushed the Chrome Silver instead of using the bare metal foil? My next build is going to be the 56 Nomad, and I'm not sure which direction to go.
  11. This was a build I did for my son. He is currently stationed on the ship. It was a 10 month labor of love, and totally burned me out of building ships. I used LEDs to light the bridge, hanger, and well deck. It was fun, but I don't think I want to undertake anything like this again.
  12. Here's the box art Again I have to thank everyone for the kind words. No work on the kit tonight, I was outside in the cold today at work, and I'm going to just kick back. I've seen the all black leather, and the red pipping. I'm not confident enough to attempt the pipping, but I think it looks very cool.
  13. I like it!! Great decal work. The carbon fiber is so cool, I didn't know you could get that. I can see doing something off the wall with that. Overall it's clean and mean, and I think there's going to be one in my future.
  14. Very cool change. I think that looks way better than the M car.
  15. This morning I've gotten a lot done. (Prep work seriously paying off) I got the rest of the trim tied down, and the front headlights in. The grills and fog lights are also looking good. I painted the inside of the fog lights chrome silver, because they didn't even show up with a black background. They'd look a lot better with fiber optics, but not this build. Next I started assembling the suspension. I'm very happy with the details, but even more happy with the fit. Not a single fit problem at all, not a one. So looking at the closeup I know I need to do some dusting. LOL What could I use to clean the mold line off the tires? The knife just didn't do it. Here's a picture of some of the suspension details that kind of get lost. I'm not that great with the small brushes, but I'm OK with these results. I did a little oil wash on the rims. I think I'm done building ships for a while, I'm having a blast with these cars. Thanks for watching, and I'm going to see what I can do using a drill bit for detail work. Thanks for the tip.
  16. This one is the Golf V I think.
  17. Thanks for the kind words. I have a question. What could I use to do the ultra fine details on the radio buttons. I have nothing that goes that fine, but I've seen some amazing things here and am willing to give anything a try.
  18. This is my second attempt at building a car. I've done a few ships in 350, but a while ago I found my Honda Fit in 24th, and I don't think it came out all that bad. At least it looks somewhat like what I have in the garage. Now I'm hooked. I picked up a GTI kit, and a 56 Nomad, and with a literal flip of a coin I'm working on the GTI. I'm a few days in, and here's a few pictures of my progress. I'm real happy with the dash! I'm using Tamiya paints, and am happy with the semi gloss black for the leather. Now I have to do a little downsizing to my pictures. Please if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them. Thanks.
  19. This was one of my favorite builds ever so long ago. I'd love to do justice to what I butchered so many years ago.
  20. Hi. My name is Mark, and I've been away from building model cars for about 35 years. A few years ago I started building ships when my son joined the Navy. I had intended on honing my skills enough to do a build of his ship. It was a 9 month build that about did me in (mentally that is), so after I finished I was finished with ships. I started looking for something else to build, and found a kid of my Honda Fit. Seriously amazed that they would even make something like that I jumped on it. I had so much fun building it I wanted more! Now on the workbench is a Revell 65 Nomad and a Fujimi Golf GTI. I'm thinking that the GTI will be white with black interior, and the Nomad will be a custom teal with white. It may turn into a garage car, but I'm not sure yet. What I'm having most of my trouble with is the Clear-Coating. I used Future and wasn't that happy with the results. Mark
