Revell 2012 Fall New Releases Announced
jbwelda replied to TurboKitty's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
doesnt that kinda look more like a GMC blower? -
and a bit more done: exhaust system was bent and the stock mufflers trimmed off, here is a shot of the pipes in place, i have to touch up the paint and then i will epoxy on the dunstall mufflers i made. you can tell the muffs are going to be at a pretty great angle to the rear tire, up and out like my norton used to be. and here is the fairing, nearing completion. windscreen is white glued onto one side at the moment, when i am happy with how it looks i will sneak some epoxy into the seam and seal it up...to one side only as the fairing has to clamshell over the frame and fork. but from this mockup i can see its fitting on the fairing pretty nice. i had to heat the windscreen up in warm water and narrow it a bit to get it to look nice but that was pretty successful i would say: thanks again for looking!

so the prototypes i ordered came in
jbwelda replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
yeah those swirly many spoke kinda wheels look pretty boss, and the three wide spoke one looks kool too. not really my kinda wheels but i see where youre going with them. what dont you like about them, is it a finish thing you cant really see in the photos, or are there chunks out of the spokes or something? kool lookin wheel and tire combo. -
Why Did I Buy This?
jbwelda replied to modelmike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i buy kits sometimes just for certain parts in them (like those amt kits with tools or jacks or towing rigs or whatever), take those parts out and then years later look at the kit and think what the heck was i thinking! most though are good for something, a future trade if nothing else. -
What kit is this from?
jbwelda replied to fatkidd's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
have you tried a google search on plastic boat outboard motor kit? might bring something up. -
i wish i had a photo of that stupid dude with the matress and box springs bunji corded onto his roof i was behind at 65 miles per hour one time when it came loose and was cartwheeling toward me at 60mph...but i was too busy getting out of the way to point my camera!

again some slow but sure progress; actually if i had a few hours at the bench with my mind into it, i could get this done. as it is though... fenders mounted along with front fork and tires: you can see that i sort of raked the front fork by bending the frame a bit and then cross drilling the fork tube to make the front wheel sit forward and the frame sitting lower than it would otherwise. turned out pretty much how i wanted it, and is gonna look nice with the fairing in place. you can also see the tank ready to mount and the side covers... heres a look at the back fender and the custom taillight, looks pretty sleek... finally, heres a pic from the front with the fairing sitting upright. it clamshells apart and together around the frame with magnets shown earlier. havent actually fitted it yet but from what ive tried it will fit nice and i have a pinhead on the bottom of the motor to attach to the magnet and hold the fairing up in place...pretty clever (if it works). next up i got the handlebars with wiring to attach and route the wires (clutch cable, throttle cable and front brake cable) and ive got my dunstall mufflers done and just have to install the exhaust system. thanks again for looking and commenting!

How important are panel lines to you?
jbwelda replied to edward smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i am one who likes inked in black panel lines though i have to say the method harry describes and someone else illustrated looks great, better than what i currently do. the thing is, yes of course the actual "line" on a body isnt painted black, its typically (like 95% of the time in sunlight) shaded though and i dont care what anyone says, go outside and look at a car, from an appropriate distance to approximate its size in 1/24, and what do you see? i see black. thats with or without sunglasses on: black. this business about it not being black is because it is being looked at too closely and/or the situation is being overanalyzed. maybe its my eyes...i see black. black on yellow, black on blue, black on white, and for as much as one can see...black on black. >The reason the lines on a real car "appear" black is because light isn't going inside the gap. agreed >It's not because they are black. agreed except some are black. >Also when you view those same lines on a real car at a certain angle, they will disappear almost. and that happens about 5% of the time from my SWAG. and if you are far enough away for it to appear approx 1/24 scale size, then it never happens, at least not on a light colored vehicle. that said, i think i am going to start trying the inking over paint then a couple more coats technique. since i am now using an airbrush some anyway, i think it will work out better than the only other time i tried it, where to prevent paint from drying before hitting the surface i had to flow it on for that "overcoat" and it ended up hiding the panel lines so i couldnt even see them (this was with a dark color but not anywhere near black). so i put that technique on the shelf; thanks for reminding me of it again. -
i didnt know a car had to have two seats to be street legal. still dont. hope that clears things up for you. ps: buy two kits...then you gots two seats.

seam lines, flash, and detailing
jbwelda replied to 62rebel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
> Nothing detracts more from a well built and painted model than simply "cleaning up" a kit before anything. yes i agree...i love those parting lines and injector pin marks, dont want to detract from the final product by removing them. those darn things are always sneaking up on me and thats why you sometimes see especially ejector pin marks on my stuff: by the time i notice them its too late. oh well...not something i obsess over after the fact. but i have seen some here where it is obvious the builder didnt even bother to try. i at least try on the prep stage, sometimes less than successfully though, and when youre talking something as delicate as like the orange crate, its a losing battle. -
beauty motor there!

i am saving money because of, not for, those foose kits. wont be needing any poorly warmed over left overs. -

1/6 Scale Cafe Racer
jbwelda replied to Hippie's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
that is too much! love the way you are weathering parts and making them different like its coming out of someones paycheck. the problem is going to be, when you get it done, how to shrink down to 1/6 scale to ride it! -
strange as it may seem, i think AMT had that Levicar thing on their reissue lists at one time recently. maybe i am dreaming... thanks for the link on those UK cars there, even though the auction was over, it might have saved me some money! not really, i dont think i could afford to drop that coin, but i have them in my saved searches on this side to see if anything turns up. great thread and great its still going...

thats so nice, it makes me want to go pull mine out and start it. love that detailing underneath and you are right about capturing the undercarriage perfectly. somehow i am trying to think of how to put a 409 or something in it!

that is a very nice looking build there and i too have heard horror stories about MFH but you certainly seem to have overcome them!
