  1. >I would like to see them reissue the old '62 or '63 Ford pickups (with go cart) ok now here is something that makes sense! even without the kart (and/or triumph motorcycle) the trucks would be nice. but of course what would REALLY be nice would be the truck, the kart, AND the motorcycle! one has to dream big!
  2. aha...maybe this is the one, it does look like the plug wires go down there in this photo, and then connect on to the front and one to the back of whatever is down there (eg: magneto): ps: while its good sport and all to make fun of the prince of darkness (Lucas electrics) one will often find out in rebuilding an english electrical system that the components are fine but the wiring harness, especially the vintage cloth wound ones, are most often the problem. i rewired my MGTF with all new (good, eg: not moss motors) wiring harness and all my electricals stopped having the intermittent problems Lucas is (in)famous for. and i have done it more than once on more than one "impossible" car. why did the british never manufacture computers? they couldnt figure out how to make them leak oil!
  3. my references (plus having 5 Nortons over my life): this one does seem to have some wiring running down that direction but its hard to tell if they are plug wires: hmmm i cant seem to locate the motorcycle in this shot: here is a 71 that you can see the plug wires better on, but this may be too late of model: so in short i cant find any that go down to the carb area, they all go up and disappear under the tank. but i may not be going back far enough in the archives. and im not sure when triumph introduced the electric starter but i was pretty sure it was early or mid 60s. anyway i just wanted to bring it up and also let you know i found that stuff very interesting...didnt see a thread here for it, but i liked the contrast between the revell and the (much superior imo) amt attempts.
  4. hi, i was just looking at the photos of your build of the revell parts pack and amt Triumph motorcycles and thought i could interject something for next time: i think you have your spark plugs wired into the side of the electric starter motor! or maybe thats the magneto! i believe on real ones the coils are mounted under the fuel tank and a bit forward of center and so the wires should go upward and basically disappear under the tank. the photos of your build were very helpful as i am thinking of building the revell triumph after finishing the amt/r&mm one not too long ago. http://public.fotki.com/funman1712/tim-boyd-on-line-mo/125-scale-triumph-h/
  5. that avanti body has always looked either too long or too narrow or both to me. and those "opening" doors dont help matters at all. ive got a copy of the prestige kit and one of the blue printer version and the only thing i have ever coveted from them is that dual supercharger set up on the motor. the rest seems like total junk to me.
  6. oh so if you mean all the body mods are ok and maybe the roll cage, yeah it looks like you can delete the rally lights and certainly not apply the decals, or pick and choose among them. how much are you planning on paying for it if i could ask? mine had a hobby shop sticker for close to 40$ but then clearanced to 10$ and thats what i bought it for. what im getting at is i wouldnt spend a big $ until you look around a bit for one on the cheap...
  7. wow those were some heroics on saving the body! what happened to it to begin with: did you use a hairdryer to coax down the decals and end up warping the roofline? that would pretty much make me trashcan the project! details look great so keep it up!
  8. oh that is killer and i love the idea of using all those vintage parts like the parts pack and the tony nancy and attempt 1, super job so far too. really liked those photos and i would like to do this one some time:
  9. well i guess you could make it a street version but there are no extra parts to support that that i can see.
  10. do you mean this one: I have it in front of me. its not terribly complicated, probably 100 pieces or so. decal sheet looks great, including monte carlo plaques, gauge faces, all body graphics, sponsor decals and lots of details. parts look nice, no excess flash or anything. body looks a bit toylike but mostly thats the big flares etc. would not be surprised to hear this was once a motorized kit or derived from one. so overall it looks ok and with some detailing could probably look very nice. lots of racing/rally parts. not a curbside but simplified motor that looks like it would build up well with some patience and detailing. if you have specific questions post them and i will try to answer.
  11. what are the differences between it and the original kit?
  12. Excellent kool weirdo car!
  13. hey thanks for bringing this up! yes i have yellow laid down on it but its in a pretty rough state, i dont do much model work during the summer so i have not been progressing much past that but one of these evenings i will color sand it and get it ready for some clear. the painting could have gone better. as i mentioned i used my airbrush which while i get more confident every time i use it, i still havent mastered it. the gloss finish i was hoping for out of the brush didnt happen but then i put some reducer into my cup and shot that over the kinda frosted finish and it caused the paint to flow out nicely (or at least nicer), the only problem there being i got a little heavy handed and had a few drops forming on the lower surfaces, so i wicked then off with a bit of paper towel and set it aside to dry and shrink down. i used tamiya acrylic yellow and their reducer and that trick really did work out pretty well though i have not really sat right down in the light and examined the body, but from across the room it looks alright. thanks again for noticing this thread and bringing it back up, it kinda jars me to get this thing done!
  14. Excellent!
  15. i like to keep it to a managable number mostly so i can keep consistent in recalling what exactly i was doing on a particular project and probably how i was going to attack whatever problem caused me to put it down for a bit! right now: revell parts pack honda motorcycle (currently on the bench, detail painting underway) surfite (painted, needs smoothing and clear then detail painting of body and final assembly) tognottis king t (currently painting interior while body sits waiting for pre paint attention) oh yeah a 1/8 scale Offy motor that i havent gotten around to in a couple years. please make the sanding stop! i actually pretty much cleared my bench of projects this past winter, so i was pretty satisfied with that.
  16. wow ron that build looks sweet! you bent all those exhaust pipes? nice work for sure! i just got the hot rod edition given to me and i was looking at it and seeing yours makes me want to tackle it. i have the GMP 1/18 diecast and it came with a dvd with a lot of footage of the car including that bit from the beach movie. its some great resource for details.
  17. i thought you were going to report finding a lot of flash on a tamiya kit. this i had to see!
  18. one name, john teresi. not only did he do the showboat car (or more than one) he also did the buick station wagon rebody funny car of a bit later. beautiful builds.
  19. would tommy ivo necessarily be privy to those statistics? i mean he might know about the reissues from the royalty checks but the part about selling x amount of units in y amount of time sounds a bit specious. not to deny him his respect though. i would wonder how many of those kits actually got built. i mean completed! mine certainly didnt!
  20. i have that c5r lemans kit and you know what? i never noticed that you would have to do surgery to see the detail they built in! it doesnt really matter in my case because i am going to attempt fitting a jimmy flintstone cadillac xlr onto the chassis and make it a street racer sort of deal. big plans...lets see how that goes! thanks for posting this, made me dig it out and check what you were saying to see if you were talking about the same kit!
  21. nobody will want that new tesla. its their death warrent, just watch. the elise based one was great, thats from a lotus-biased guy, and was the only electric car i have seen that had even a modicum of sport to it. those mass market ones are made or at least designed for jane the office secretary or state worker and just look so generic. thats fine for jane but i have always wanted a bit of style and sport to anything i drive and this new tesla is a major step backward if you ask me.
  22. oh those wheels are classic...bad taste
  23. wanted to give an update, got the El Matador today and while the body is nice and smooth and no serious pinholes or other problems, the chassis is pretty pathetic, thin, poorly detailed etc. I am hoping the AMT chassis will replace it but havent gotten one yet to check. I understand the AMT chassis leaves quite a bit to be desired, eg: metal axles, molded in detail including exhaust system etc. I remember when i was a kid i would just glue the new "kustom" exhaust system right over the existing chassis detail but of course that aint gonna cut it in the 2000s! so, body nice, interior passable, fits well and the tuck and roll engraving is ok, seats and headrests will take some work but the chassis has gotta go. and while the body exteriorly is "nice", inside its a bit of a different story and it will do with some dremel therapy to get it down to workable thickness, and some epoxy to fill and strengthen the gaps and bubbles inside.
