Thanks to Bart I now have a full color Rat Fink decal for the side cover! this will encourage me to add the cables and be done with it! unfortunately i had hoped to finish it by now but intruders at the gate have kept me up nights anticipating motion detector squeals. Just cause you can grow it here doesnt mean you can harvest it as i am finding out for the first time this year, after 10 years. sleeping in a tent in your own backyard isnt the way God planned it and it makes it hard to concentrate on building models. anyway hopefully something will get done and it will be posted here. meanwhile my 12 gauge needs cleaning again.

Airbrush Compressor Question
jbwelda replied to raildogg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
but i was under the impression that having a tank vs using air right out of the compressor eliminated the surging of the air and therefore the paint. with a tank you are running with a constant flow and pressure. -

>>I didn't notice it before, but the wheels appear to be die-cast style, with halves which glue together before inserting them into the tires. >I fail to see any significant downside to that. i fail to see a problem either...expand a bit maybe, Casey? -
>I think you should pretty well expect a built-up model to arrive with at least some damage. totally disagree. if one takes about 15 minutes to pack something with some intelligence it should not get damaged unless its run over or impaled or some similar disaster. the Ron Cash pickup for instance arrived completely unscathed. completely, not one piece floating around. it was wrapped in bubble wrap gently and put into a white model box (like a promo box, easily purchased from bags unlimited etc) and then wrapped with a layer of foam and put into a shipping carton. total cost was probably 5$...a cost i am willing to spend to assure some intelligent packing. i have also had two 1/8 scale builds sent to me with zero damage in shipping but they had had little jigs constructed of cardboard to hold the wheels off the ground and isolate the model from shocks as much as possible. again, just a little bit of thinking which should be mandatory if you are selling this sort of thing on ebay. anything else is just an excuse for sloppyness. even if you thought your precious model would bring hundreds of bucks but it only drew one bid for 10$...thats absolutely no excuse. in contrast i just bought a built jimmy flintstone zoomerang and the fool just wrapped it in a single sheet of paper, threw a couple styrofoam peanuts into a thin priority shipping box and marked "FRAGILE" on the box. fat lot of good that did...fortunately its such a slab of a model nothing much broke off except the front wheels, and about four parts of the motor. there is just no cure for stupid. edit: just now i received a msg from the seller of the zoomerang apologizing profusely for it getting damaged in transit and offering to fully refund my price (and me keep the car) or if i find one of those kits he will build it for me and paint it my choice of colors (!) which of course is not necessary but reflects the "beyond the call of duty" that is quite often missing from ebay transactions of late. i do have to say receiving a reply like that really sucks all the wind out of your sails when it comes to being upset at someone. there are still good people on ebay! end edit then there was the technics 1200 turntable i bought from some kid on the east coast. he just threw it and all the accessories in a box, didnt even fasten down the tone arm and had stuff that weighed a bit floating around under the TT cover (the metal 45 slug for example). when i got it i about laid an egg, or at least it was from that direction on my body and couldnt believe the thing hadnt been destroyed...but it seemed to work fine and the tonearm was unbent and the suspension tested out ok so i guess i dodged a bullet there.

this is out of stock from danbury...do you have an "in" on purchasing them or even know of someone with the ala kart in stock?
-
very nice development and i like the 32 shell best too, really integrates with the rest of the body well. amazed at the chassis construction!

totally spectacular!

yeah nice essay art. i dont think i mentioned a specific high temp like 100 degrees...but in a storage bin out in the sun it gets pretty darn hot when the outside ambient temp starts going over 90 and especially if there are some windows to let direct sunlight in and no air circulation devices. also you failed to address my real point, which is, factory packed possibly no problem but once the kit has been rifled i often find it doesnt fit like it did and then the high temp combined with stress and pressure from kits stacked above it WILL warp bodies and parts. what i guess i am saying is your chat there differs from my empirical experience. and i tend to try to err on the side of caution. agree on models left in the sun and esp in display cases and also inside cars on sunny days (greenhouse effect) but we were talking about long term storage and again i tend to rather be safe than sorry.

stupid "browser" problem again trying to post this...my browser is auto updated weekly, so its up to date from last friday. personally i think a recent update bug may have caused the problem we (some of us) are experiencing. original reply: thanks for the details folks, i think i had this model when i was a kid but havent since mostly because i think the cobra is just overdone, in scale as in real life (all those 1:1 kits). i do now remember this is one of the few original cobra/ace body styles with a minimum of mods done to it so that is nice. that roof though...there is just no accounting for tastes i guess. there was a LeMans top that was used on some 1:1 cars to, i guess, use them in GT class, but it looked a lot better than what i see on the box art. but maybe i will need to pick up one of these for old times sake.
-
whats with that goofy looking top on the box art car? is that a lemans top or something? maybe some "kustom" styling? what are the good points of this kit vs what seems like an endless supply of similar kits? i take it it has full motor detail and maybe various motors?

>Are you going all tyhe way with this Honda? Like cables and wires? yes i am going to add some cables to the handle bars; was going to have that done already but a couple of emergencies and a whole separate distraction came up so i havent been able to devote time to it just yet. i originally was going to add cables and drill holes where they needed to go but then i got lazy and didnt...now i am just going to run cables from the bars and have them disappear under the fuel tank...we will see how that goes. way kool mini bike there; i am going to have to get that vandal just for that!

i would suggest caution and try to keep them in a more climate controlled area than out in a shed in direct sunlight during the summer (and i have a feeling sub zero or even long periods of sub freezing wont do them any good either). the problem i think will come with how they are packed inside their boxes. those kits with a zillion parts that you cant put all back into the box after you have taken them out will probably be the worst as when you repack them you can put pressure on the roof of the body or something and then introduce them to heat and they may take a set you dont like. especially if they are stored stacked one atop another and especially if the upper box fits inside the perimeter of the box below it.

that chassis from EJs that mimics the old monogram brass pan chassis is great...like the original but reinforced in several places to prevent flex. i also bought a very nice alloy chassis from slot it...wasnt cheap but it was fast and had several nice features including twin adjustable magnets plus the slot-it components were among the best ever

if you recall a few years ago a parts pack kit containing all the motorcycles was due to be released by Revell but was cancelled. it would have been a "must have" for me and even more so if they put others in there like that little minibike from, not sure here, but maybe it was from that dumb VW van with the motor inside the passenger compartment.
-
thanks for the suggestion on the decal chuck, unfortunately i do not have a color printer (actually i dont have ANY printer attached to this computer) so that isnt going to work. i looked through a bunch of kits last night because i could swear i have seen a tiny RF decal somewhere but no luck. meanwhile i repositioned the taillight so it looks much better and am attempting some cables but i should have thought of that earlier and drilled the handlebars.

1/25 Revell Tony Nancy 22 Jr Dragster/Roadster
jbwelda replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
well not sure what kind of info you desire but i have an original of the kit and i just purchased the reissue. i can tell you the cars are much more fiddley than the AMT double dragster, but thats typical for revell of the era, that fiddleness results in very detailed builds. there is flash in the reissue that i dont see in the original but not a terrible amount. both cars are molded in colored plastic, i dont have the kit in front of me but i think i recall at least one is molded in dark gray. post some more info on what youre looking for and i or someone will probably help. overall i would say its a very worthwhile kit and really do build into a pair of kool dragsters. -

its still a totally kool model and i know i will be getting more than one. Revell ought to be congratulated for sinking money into anything in these times, truth be told. -
isnt this a dragster? beautiful build, great detail and fine paint!

there are a number of bre datsun 510s out on ebay right now that look to be going for way less than 90$, including one closing in 47 minutes, with a current bid of 24.99, but it is partially built (nice looking paint job and partial assembly). and a review of completed listings reveals one sold for 29$, this being the reissue i have from a few years ago, though there is also one, possibly an original that went for 89$ and another for 49 on a buy it now basis. so it appears if you look around and want a builder (eg: reissue) you should be able to get one for under 40$. i have a couple and want to build one of them soon along with the bre 240Z
