i can see both sides of this and i have to say i see something worthwhile in that part about not having the basics down, then added on stuff doesnt even count...but: >If you want rigidly enforced rules find something else to compete at. that part i have a problem with. all the other rules seem to be rigidly enforced. why is it this entry time one can be not so rigidly enforced, and if it were joe blow off the street would he have been given the leeway too? i dont mean that to start (or continue) an argument, it just doesnt look good and its pretty hard to explain away if you cant explain away the mold lines you left in because you were 100% sure those wont ever show on the finished model. i realize the problems with contests, especially the judging part, ive been on both sides of that coin. but contrary to those who dont want anything to do with them, i am more like the poster above described: i look at them as fun, a chance to see some other builders stuff, maybe get some interest in your builds and be able to share about them a bit, and if i am really lucky, maybe bring home some plaque or something to remember the occasion. but if not thats not the point, i still have a good time. you just kinda gotta go with the flow and not expect too much recognition of your obviously vastly superior builds.

Photoetch wire wheels
jbwelda replied to imatt88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
southeast finecast out of the UK makes (or made...not sure if they are still in business) some really nice ones for an MGB. scroll down this page 2/3rd to the end or so...also scope out some of the kits they make! http://www.scalelink.co.uk/acatalog/Car_Kits___Scale_1_24.html -
yep i agree about the heat: for long term storage it can really be a problem with the kits, warped parts, ruined decals, that sort of thing. i would store your inactive kit stash elsewhere but unless it gets really hot there, not 90 but more like 120, i wouldnt worry about your kits in progress too much. but heat is always the enemy with plastic and its effects can be subtle...things can look ok until you actually fit them together and then you always wonder if it came that way from the factory or if it got bent in your attic.

Possible new Galaxie Release
jbwelda replied to Qwit Pushin's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I could really go for a late 50s Olds myself. Hope this doesnt take the thread too off topic but what is the general concensus on Galaxies quality in terms of detail, fidelity to body lines and dimensions of the 1:1, etc? I have a couple of their kits but have not built one nor really looked at one in detail in quite some time. Seems to me people like Trumpeter get railed on every release about lack of fidelity to the originals but ive never read anything similar about Galaxie. IMO we need more independents out there putting out kool kits. -
what kind of adhesive are you using? and i for one would love to see a progress report on this model! Gregg?

@Horsepower: yep i guess you are right...the guys hands arent even dirty yet cause he only took off the air filter so far!

i dig that cover art there...check it out, he is installing dual quads while taking off the what looks like 4 Webers or maybe some fuel injection set up. was there advance notice of this variation being released? i recall trumpeter was putting out a stock falcon but not hi-po versions. are there parts as in the illustration included with the kit? and a 65 ranchero? did i read that right? i have to get at least one of each...the stocker didnt do much for me but this is more like it.

Show me the 4 bangers!

edit: oh yes now i see the VW there! nice stuff! >In the Vee Dub? Nah- that's the Beetle pancake four, up front and hooked up to a conventional trans. ( I blame this one soley on 'VW Dave' >and the front engined Model T "V Bucket" hot rod he built a few years back.) naw i meant this one, i was having a problem posting it the other night, lets see if it works now: is that a VW motor? too small for me to really see but i thought i could see cylinders sticking up at a 45 degree angle. posting the photo just aint working...its the flat black coupe with the red flames at or near your post back on page one. nice work too just real curious what kinda mill you got there. i am always on the lookout for new strange motors. and now i am reminded that i GOTTA build my surfite one of these days. i gotta agree with ed shaver...there is strange stuff going on with this board at the moment. heres an idea: dont mess with it when it works. spend your time building a model or something! -

that looks fantastic Lars. how is the front end holding up with the weight of the motor and car? did you reinforce the wheel mountings somehow? i ask because that always seems to be a sticky thing about these big cars, sheer weight and sooner or later the front axle collapses. excellent work there even right down to the polished frame!
-
wow, just saw this one, didnt even realize this kit was out and man that is fantastic paint and graphics! whole car looks killer but love that purple!

wow those are some kool sport coupes, i love those hubcaps Lyle, beautiful! and its true: you get totally spoiled buying R&M products and dealing with Norm. they are the best. ps: i think Lyle mastered these totally kool headers:
