Aoshima Super Beetle Cabriolet
Dale W. Verts replied to Dale W. Verts's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Everything you said, plus the deck/hood is a few inches longer than the standard beetle. Also, they came with a McPherson Strut front suspension instead of the link-pin. Made it hard to street-rod one or maybe build a Baja Bug. My wife likes the Super Beetle. That's what she wants me to build, and darn it- she knows the difference. I'll get it done- I have an Exacto knife. Heck, I have a torch and a hammer, too. Dale -

As far as the Revell kit- I have one. My wife just has this weird thing for Super Beetles. Never could stand them myself. Dale -
Aoshima Super Beetle Cabriolet
Dale W. Verts replied to Dale W. Verts's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That's it (except mine's a convertible of course). Thanks (still need to find my camera, hmmm..)! The first thing I saw was that, er... pan. Or whatever. It was just wrong. Then I realized why. Because it IS. Wrong I mean. Anyway, lesson learned. I will use the body for something. Anyone ever do a Pro- Street Cabriolet? Dale -
Aoshima Super Beetle Cabriolet

I need to find my camera, but will do. Dale -
Ya'll probably already know this, but I'm still getting back up to speed... Jost got a Super Beetle Cabriolet in the mail that I bought from China off of eBay. Man, oh man. The kit is by Aoshima and it's a pile as compared to (every) other kit I've had. It might as well be a snap-together kit. In fact, I just checked to make sure it wasn't... Almost everything here is a facsimile instead of actual parts. Sad. The BODY looks okay- I won't worry about it until I'm ready to mess with it. Nice fat tires (nowhere near stock, but I like 'em FAT). And that's about it. My wife's dream "fun" car is a Super Beetle convertible. It may be easier to go buy her the real thing than to attempt a scratch-build. Which is exactly what I'll do do some day. Dale

I just bought this kit last week. Gonna wait to build my skill level up some so I can give it what it deserves. Thanks for the input and ideas. Dale

Well fellers, thanks for the input. I imagine I need to modify a '63 kit, because I plan to street-rod this car if I ever build it. When I was a kid my brother had a friend with a '64. I was fascinated by those two big carbs and velocity stacks pokin' thru the hood. And it sounded RIGHT. Funny- I remember my brother saying that "someday he'll wish he'd kept that injector..." Part of the fun in this modeling thing for me is building cars the way I would like them to be if I owned the real thing. And a '64 'vette, Candy-Apple Red, with big chrome pipes down the side withand a slobberin' 327 with those big 'stacks stickin' thru the hood is the way I'd want one! I would say to cut up a rare, however correct kit, would probably incur some wrath. Thanks again. Dale

My first build since rejoining the fold is a sprint car- it's done except for body work/decals/minor details. LOVE my sprint/dirt cars. Dale

Thanks guys. I'm not a big 'vette fan (shoot me) but I do like the older cars, and thought that doing a '64 (the year I was born) might be cool. Dale

Love the bugs. Dale

Does (has) anyone produce a '64 Corvette? Can't seem to find one. Thanks! Dale

One of the things I love about this forum (and I've moslty just been watchin' and learnin' so far) is the mixing of ideas from around the world. Way cool. And no one butchers the English lanuage more than I do. I love my cain'ts... Nice Camaro, sir. Dale

Man, I NEVER would have thought green would look that good! Thanks for sharing. Dale

Okay, ya got me. Bought six more kits since, and STOLE a couple of them. Seriously. But my wife is supportive... But this isn't gonna work until I build something, So here we go. Dale

Okay, I wanna play... I haven't cut my first part off of a tree yet, but I've been buying models off of eBay. Addictive in itself. This weeks' buys include- Two VW bugs, a '68 and a Cabriolet. Both Revells. The old (1988) Monogram Steve Butler sprint car Revell '26 T Delivery Small-block Chevy race motor AMT/ERTL '57 Chevy Bel Air Revell '57 Chevy Bel Air Monogram '57 Chevy Nomad Revell Peterbilt 359 (for my wife- she LOVES the big rigs) and a Revell Kurtis-Kraft Offenhauser midget Along with the sprint car and super-mod kits I already have I think I'm done, and need to start buildin'. Except I really would like a couple old dirt modifieds. And I need to order some resin stuff to dress these things up. What have I gotten into here? Dale

All my models burnt up in my brothers' house in a fire last May. Saved some slot car stuff from the 70's that was in a different building. Dale

Man. Severely sad. I've been thinking about getting back into this long enough that I knew that the local Wal Marts had quit selling kits. But I'd heard they were back in the business. Not so. NOBODY around here (we're very rural, praise the Lord) has anything to do with modeling. No paint. No glue. Nothin'. The last hobby shop in our area closed their doors two years ago. So I guess except for a supply trip up to the "city" someday, it'll all be online buying for me. Sad. When I was a kid even the local GROCERY STORE had a selection of models, plus the glue and paint to at least attempt a build. Even kids that weren't gear-heads built a model car once in a while. It's where we learned the difference between a driveshaft and a pittman arm. We found out that cylinder heads and intakes went on top of an engine block. We learned terms like "differental", "third member", "headers" and "exhaust manifold". We knew the difference between a two-barrel and a four-barrel, and fuel injection. We learned in the simplest way the very basics of how a car or truck was put together. We didn't sniff the glue. Or the paint. My god. In the late 70's and early 80's the local hobby shop sold most everything you needed. They hosted a couple of contests every year. They had a slot-car track in the back. We would walk down there at lunch time, and after school, to race. Looking back, it seems pretty simple. And I LIKE simple. And we didn't sniff any glue. Nowadays if it's not already assembled, a kid (including mine, and I have three of the little monsters) has no clue. They expect their "toys" to be assembled and ready-to-go. With buttons to press. LOTS of buttons. Very sad. I have a head cold and am feeling mean. Well, that's how I roll. I RANT. I RAVE. The writer in me can't help but shout explicatives at stupid things. And this is so sadly stupid, the way the world has turned. I need to get started and build one. Dale

Man. Magnifying glass. Ouch- hadn't really thought of that... IF I get into this like I think I will, I'll need a new bench, more or less exclusive to the hobby. The best part about that is I'll be able to do it right the first time. A big difference from when I was twelve. Here's my "plan". I'm a freak for dirt racing, especially non-winged spriint cars, midgets, etc. LOVE the old supers. And dirt modifieds. Of course, I like anything with wheels, but I've purchased some donor sprint car kits to practice on. Experiment, if you will. Hopefully later this year I'll be building two sprint cars- the idea is to perfectly match the modified midgets of two young ladies that race here in central MO. They are grandaughters of a friend, ages 7 and 11. I want to match their cars PERFECTLY in every detail, albeit in a sprint car. I reckon that's going to be a challenge, especially seeing how one of them came out of the paint booth last week painted in RealTree Pink Camo. I LOVE a challenge. Thanks for the welcome. Dale

Thanks, but I used to fall off of bikes... hard. Dale
