  1. Okay, I'm going to call this one mostly done. It was the second car I started when I came back to this insanity in January. I keep piddlin' with these things and decided to call it quits. I should have wired it up. I should have, well, I should have done a lot of things. As it is except for a slight lowering and a resin steering wheel this one is box-stock. But it looks good settin' on the shelf and that's what I wanted it to do. Thanks for lookin', and continued "thanks" to all those that share their expertise. Dale

  3. Hmmm.. work to my abilities, and you guys want me to try foil! Dale
  4. Thanks guys. While I don't particularly like "weathered" vehicles (although I have TONS of respect for the skill it takes to do them right), I DID kind of give this one a "just got back from the track" look with a dirty wash on the engine that I didn't wipe off. I'm going for the kind of hot rod I like- all the money is in the motor/drivetrain. Paint just adds weight... I also lowered the front some- it set way too "square" for me. This was my first wiring attempt since the sewing-thread days of the mid-1970's. Also my first wash. And interiors suck... Dale
  5. Actually I'm havin' a BLAST. Fifty-years-young, rediscovering the kid in me... Dale
  6. Always like the Matra- kind of the underdog. Very nice collection. Dale
  7. Really nice- I have a coupe on the way myself. Dale
  8. I took this pic to show some buddies the scale that a half-blind Hickbilly is workin' with... I spent several hours on this engine alone yesterday, now I've had to cut the bug apart to make it fit. I got it from the Meyers Manx kit, and it's better than anything else I had, but still horrible. I'm building intakes to make it a dual port, and adding Webers. And building a set of headers. I know the bodywork on the bug sucks. I'm learning. I got put in a cast for a fractured ankle last Thursday and they tell me twelve WEEKS. Looks like I picked the perfect time to pick this hobby back up! Dale
  9. It really is hard to post pics here with the quality of work ya'll do. But this is the fourth model I've worked on since starting back in the hobby in January. I'm WAY too picky, and have decided to take it easy and build to my skill level and not sweat the details so much. Everything I do I learn from, with some pretty silly mistakes along the way. Anyway, this one is 95% done, but I got back on my wife's bug yesterday and need to finish it first. The Nova needs a reworked hood scoop, water lines, tail lights, etc. This was a horrible kit- the chassis, interior tub, and body were ALL warped to some degree. Instead of breaking out another kit I worked with what I had. That's why you can see some of the inner door panel in the first shot. I haven't give up on it, but right now it is what it is. I AM however thoroughly enjoying myself, and "thanks" to everyone who contributes here. I'm learning. Dale
  10. My gosh, that's BEAUTIFUL! Dale
  11. Very nice. What exactly is that yellow? Dale
  12. Groovy. Dale
  13. Man, that's so cool. The sentiment as well. Dale
  14. Hey Jim- any engine detail-pics? I'm still goin' crazy wanting to build nice bug motors. Really neat car, too. Dale
  15. Tickled with the parts I got from him and the communication was tremendous. Still need someone to build me about 12 Type-1, dual-port VW air-cooled engines tho'... Dale
  16. I can almost smell it- the fuel, rubber, beer and... Dale
  17. Well... for me, as an "old" beginner, thanks to everyone that posts their help and wisdom here. I give up- I'll be an ARTIST later (maybe). I'll reckon I'll just build these little things for FUN for a while. Thanks again. Dale
  18. Watching an old "Stargate SG-1" disc today... O'Neill has jets and choppers displayed in his den. Never noticed them before. Dale
  19. I stand by my previous post. What you are doing is WRONG. I love it! Dale
  20. Thanks Bill... So I'll have, what, about $160 in my first good engine? Now that's FUNNY. I saw on a resin site (I forget who's) where they have VW engines as "coming soon". I'll take a dozen. LOVE the air-cooled stuff. Thanks again. Dale
  21. Just finished for the day on my current Bug project. Need motor(s). Wish someone would build a resin engine... Dale
  22. I come to this website (and this hobby) for a refreshing and a wholesome good time. A cleansing of the soul if you will. Then I run across a SICK post like this one... Awesome, man. Just awesome. Dale
  23. Oops. If he turns right he's in TROUBLE. Still really cool. Dale
  24. Anything that turns right to go left is way cool. Dale
