Pinstriper's Ranchero
gonzo64nova replied to gonzo64nova's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Look closer they do go inside the door line and I cut them with a razor blade, guess I should run some thinned black in the panel lines. Bill -
JC , Thanks....I found the minilites on ebay,I just did a search and they popped up. R&M stuff is very high quality, it might be worth widening them yourself, I do it all the time with my wheels. Bill

Peterbilt 378 jet truck
gonzo64nova replied to midengineaddict's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I am going to enjoy this build, a while ago I scratch built a jet dragster. I back-halved a Garlits TF kit and scratch built the engine. I used many plastic plumbing fittings and markers for the exhaust and main body of the engine.- 18 replies

I recently got this 61 Ranchero done just in time to take it to the NNL East. Im a pinstriper and decided to build it as a vehicle a pinstriper might be driving to and from swap meets and pinstriping gigs. I basically just lowered it and put steelies and wide whites on it then did a motor swap to a 427 FE Parts Pack motor. Then I loovered the hood. The bed has some swap meet finds in it (rusty gold) and also a pinstriper's paint box just in case a job pops up while out making the rounds of the shows. I painted it in a semi gloss copper color with a silver flaked roof and the flame decals from the Revell 48 Ford kit.

I've just completed a majority of the body work and its starting to look like my reference material. I scratch-built the wheel flares, the front spoiler, and the plates that cover the door handles and license plate opening. I've also incorporated a flange on the fender flares as these were pop-rivited on the 1.1 cars. I still need to make the headlight covers. The first generation of the IROC Camaros were basically built off of the stock chassis with a few up-grades. Im using 2 Camaro kits and a Dale Ernhart Monte Carlo to create this race car. I just ordered a set of Minilite wheels for this build ,the only ones that really belong on this ride. As crude as these cars were I think they look bad ass and with their 500hp small blocks they probably were a blast to drive. Enjoy the pics and thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread.

Great start ! The wiring and plumbing is looking good already. -
Thanks guys for the help. I think I'll try and find one of the early Nascar kits for a chassis and scratch build the flares, Ive found alot of reference yesterday on Bing ,it works alot better than Google.

Your mold making process on the hood pins is pure genius, great save on an old classic as well.

I was wondering if anybody knows what would be a good kit to use for a chassis /wheels/tires/etc for an Iroc style race car (IMSA maybe?). I am wanting to do a 74-77 CAMARO version. I also need info on the wheel flares ,if they come in any kit or resin. I also need some suspension /under hood shots, I have no clue what they used back then under these cars. Any help or info with pics or builds would be great. Thanks in advance. Let the building begin!

Mike, your Corvette came out great, I really like all the scratch building you did in the interior. Squeezing that procharger in the engine compartment was also pretty amazing ,it looks great in the finished pics. If you want to light up an indoor shoot you need to build a mini studio. It isnt hard... I used a cardboard box with windows cut into 3 sides (top, left and right) then covered them in very thin white tissue paper. Add 2 or 3 cheap spot lights so they are mounted on the outside, then take a big sheet of white or very light grey paper and lay it down for a "floor" and curve it up on the back wall going all the way to the top. This eliminates any corners and helps the lighting. The white tissue paper will diffuse the light and you will get a perfectly lit studio shot, this is the same way pros do it in the big car photography studios. Hope this helps. Bill

Its good to see a reissue of a 62 Vette, they make great gassers and modified production cars as well. Nice job on the decals, big decals usually give me fits. Bill

Another beauty from the master truck builder. -
I had originally planned to build this as a race truck, thats why the bed is so cut up. I even built a complete tube chassis for it but decided to go this route instead. I mocked it up to get a look at the stance, nothing is glued in and may not be in perfect alignment. I just finished up the monster frame notches and bag mounts to put it 3 scale inches off the ground. Its a 2 link setup so I still need to make a panhard bar for it. The rear shocks I made out of aluminum tubing. I made the bags out of some o-rings that were reduced in diameter. In the front I moved the front suspension up with the crossmember attached. It's getting a turbocharged blow thru Big Block Chevy.Im not sure what Im doing with the bed yet. I dont usually build shiny stuff but I think this one will be an exception. I have some burnt orange metallic paint that should look good on this build.

Thats the way a 32 should look. The JF body looks real good ,I think Ill stop chopping my 32s and just buy that body it would save me alot of work.
