  1. If you'd stop trying to argue, you might see that I'm trying to make exactly the same point. Oh, whatever.
  2. I tried to BMF the side trim on a Badman body and gave up after 6 or 8 failed attempts. I ended up doing it in Tamiya silver paint, which in those days was better than Testors--at least it would dry, and without brush marks. Today I'd do that trim with a silver Sharpie, or airbrush it silver first and then mask it off (I've done exactly that with a '57 I'm working on). Lizz's way is a lot of work but for what he wants to do, I think it might work okay for him. BTW, for what it's worth, I've discovered that the thin plastic bags from Walmart make an excellent mask for large areas, much faster than tape and easier than paper. And who doesn't have a dozen or more of those things floating around every week, free?
  3. I thought S/XS started in '67, and you're right, they ran in Super and Comp eliminators, but they didn't do all that well at that many big NHRA events, and in fact NHRA tried to treat them like red-headed stepchildren--Top Fuel, Top Gas, Super Stock and Junior Stock were the marquee "brands" in NHRA until it became obvious even to NHRA that the funnies were here to stay, and they were going to bring in the crowds. But for most if not all of the late '60s, the funnies paid their way in match racing and in special all-funny meets. And, of course, AHRA, UDRA, and other, lesser sanctioning bodies.
  4. Lizz, I've done that same thing, but backwards. I've found it easier to spray the chrome, and then mask it off and spray the rest of the paint. But if you're going for preserving the yellow plastic, of course your way is the only way to pull that off. Good luck on this. I'm a man who likes to polish plastic myself when the situation presents itself, though I don't think I've done polished yellow yet. I think your undercoating of it in white was a good move. Drive on!
  5. IIRC there were no NHRA legal funny cars until, what, 1969? Until then, all those guys were earning their bread and butter match racing. None of the AWB stuff we love today was technically A/FX legal. Sometimes they'd run as Altereds or Fuel Dragsters and I think there was S/XS for a season but for the most part, the glory days of Funny Car were the story of match racing.
  6. Would Boot Hill Express count? I've seen at least one photo of it actually on a dragstrip. I don't know how often they actually ran it, or if they just did it once to show they could. And, technically, the AMT '66 Barracuda funny isn't really a Hemi Under Glass. Mechanically, it's most like the '65 McEwen Barracuda, which was an attempt at a serious racer, not an "exhibition" car. The model is, more or less, that car, with a '66 body and HUG decals. (I've never seen the MPC '68 or '69 kits so can't speak to those at all.)
  7. That's an excellent suggestion.
  8. Very interesting! I'll be watching this. Don't forget to paint the engine Ford Engine Blue.
  9. BTD's got it. Make a mask, "float" it off the surface with rolled-up tape or a piece of Silly Putty or something of the sort.
  10. It's good to see that I'm not the only one with a half-dozen or more--sometimes a LOT more--projects in the works at any given moment. I WISH I had the ability to focus and concentrate on one model and work it to completion, rather than get distracted by some newer, shinier project that.... ...Hey look! A squirrel!
  11. "Executive Producer" can be (and often is) a largely ceremonial title in Hollywood. It often means someone has been paid for the use of their name (or they own the franchise, or so on); other times, it's a way to give the star of a TV show another pile of money without violating contracts, SAG rules, and so forth. Like the "Publisher" of a newspaper, a Hollywood "Executive Producer" often has little or nothing to do with the execution, content, day to day production, or final product, other than to put their stamp of approval on it.
  12. I didn't realize until I was reading about it today on the net that one guy is playing both brothers! And in episode 3, the young actress and the old waitress were played by mother and daughter--one of Clint Eastwood's ex-wives and their daughter!! "I can help!"
  13. Wouldn't it only take decals and an engine?
  14. I'm trying to get back into my original '63-'67 AMT & MPC Corvette restos project. Gonna try to get to get maybe a half dozen of them done this year; I have two active on the bench right now ('66 MPC Coupe and '65 AMT Roadster). Also have a couple mid-'70s Vette promos I'd like to polish out and lay my Snake-fu on. Oh, and the AMT '53 and Mako Shark I snappers. And an MPC '67 Charger, and a '61 Ranchero. Other than that, not much....
  15. I don't think they have anything to do with the series, other than inspiring it. But it does seem to have their flavor, doesn't it? (I'm only up to episode 3 of this season so far.)
  16. There ya go! I'm pretty sharp on the '63-'67s, a bit less so on '68-'73, and after that they all start looking alike to me. But I figgered someone here would know. Thanks!
  17. Great paint! Is that Testor Firey Orange? Lotta guys are doing good work with that. I gotta try it on something myself someday very soon. Problem is, I mainly build factory stock (ish), and it doesn't really apply for anything in that world. At any rate, Drive On!
  18. I built three of them, each a little less wretched than the last. And then Revell came out with theirs, finally. (I've also built five of the MPCs.)
  19. I don't remember it either, Scott, but with Barbara Eden on the screen, who would? NASA had some F-104s. One of them's hanging in the Smithsonian today (or at least it was last time I was there about a decade ago).
  20. Anyone watching this season of Fargo? What exact year is that Vette? Looks like somewhere between '74 and '77 but I'm not sharp enough on those years to tell which. I have an orange promo of about that vintage that I'm planning to Snakeify soon, and thought it might be fun to do the TV car if possible. And the new Revell Yenko '69 has the luggage rack in it, right? Could be a plan....
  21. Revell '32 Fords? I can't say, as I've never actually built one, just spitballin' here.
  22. I know exactly what you mean. I want to do one of those in polished green plastic, so I got one and it had that booger in it. Figgered I just got a bad one, so I bought another one, and THAT booger was ever WORSE! So I went to work on the first one. It took a LOT of VERY CAREFUL work, but I was eventually able to get it all evened out and straight--in bare plastic! There's no way to fix the "dent" along the right (passenger) side of the hood line on the top of the fender, though. At least none I can think of.
  23. Very nice, very clean build! I don't think I've ever built any Matchbox armor. Little Hasegawas and Airfixes, but I don't think any Matchboxes.
  24. I'm kinda digging the color. What's the paint?
