So, not really anywhere near OOB at all. Regardless, that's a sweet-looking ride, and one of the best black paint jobs I've ever seen. Well done and model on! PS: Black paint jobs are FUN! I just finished a '71 Cuda in black, and I polished the kit plastic. It's not quite as shiny as yours, but it's pretty darn shiny and I'm proud of how it came out.

Interesting. I might try it sometime. But does rubbing alcohol or ammonia take it off? For a clearcoat, my favorite is Model Master Clear Top Coat enamel, airbrushed. BUT I only use it on colors where its yellow tint won't bother me in the future--no whites, silvers, etc. It's great on reds, greens, medium and darker blues, and so forth.

That's really not necessary, unless you're talking about primer for a Metalizer final finish, as in the example pictured. Primer wants to be smooth, but it doesn't have to be high-polished smooth.

Squadron's been known to advertise stuff "in stock soon" when they were months from having it. At least they would do this back in the old days, when I was buying from them almost monthly.

I think there was a later D model that was silver (NMF), but I'd have to check my refs. Haven't read my 357FG books in a couple years now. Nice job, BTW. I assume you've got the gangster whitewalls on it?

Sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my mom to the same thing almost 2 years ago. It's horrible to see someone slide downhill like that. But they're almost certainly in a better place now.

I see you've sanded out the side cove trim. Nicely done! I know for a fact that's not an easy job. You almost have to make a special tool to do it. (I did, anyway.) I think you'll have to sand the rocker trim off for a GT, too. But that's easily done. Drive on!

Chevy had the 307 available in the van in 1966? I thought the 307 didn't appear until 1969.

Oh it definitely does. I was just saying that for the whipout you'd have in a resin body and shipping, PLUS a new donor AMT Road Runner or GTX (and possibly shipping on that), you could almost certainly score a nice restorable JoHan off eBay--possibly even an unbuilt reissue kit. BTW, here's the original JoHan I scored for $15 last fall. Being a Glue Bomb Savior, I can make it work.

I can't see any reason for it at all. For Testor metallic enamels I like to shoot a flat coat that's as close as possible to the final color, but if I don't have that handy, no problem, I just use flat white or a light gray primer.

What you want to do MIGHT be possible, but not in a 2:1 ratio. If you want to turn candy blue into candy teal, I'd think ONE DROP of green or so MIGHT WORK. And then again, it might not. If you have access to airbrushable candy blue, why not get some candy green and mix up your teal? Another idea if you want teal would be to spray your candy blue over a bright metallic green, such as Testor Mythic Emerald or whatever it's called? Now THAT could look interesting.

Very nice interior! If you're going for a factory stock look, you need to hit those orange plug wires with a black Sharpie (or better yet, replace them with black wire). Otherwise, looking good! Drive on!

I THINK that horizontal bar in the grille was a special deal for '68 GT or GTE or whatever they called it, and not standard on all '68s, but I'd have to do some research to confirm that. I do know I never saw very many of those bars in Cougar grilles in real life.

Bill, I did the Monogram Superbird exactly like that about 20 years ago. I need to get that thing out and post some pics of it someday.

I have one of these. Superbird fans, how should I build it? I'm a fairly big S&M fan, but this car wasn't really that significant in their history. Should I build it S&M, or revert it to factory stock?
