IMC did a Corvette? Did you mean MPC? Nice job, either way.

I have the two I built as a kid, plus another orange one I built a few years ago. I started one as a COPO 9561 in Dusk Blue, and it's even painted and polished out, but I can't find it! I too want to do a 300 post SS396, probably in LeMans blue. I don't think it will be too difficult to add the window framing myself.

So GTX6970 inspires me, and I inspire you. Big wheel keep on turnin'.... Maybe we should have a whole Show Your Monkeemobile thread soon. Very cool! I believe you about the Humbrol paint. I painted a Grumman F8F Bearcat with their glossy sea blue a few decades and it rivals any airbrush job I've ever done. Have never achieved that again with ANY paint. There's no inbetween on Humbrol--it either comes out magnificent, or it's complete garbage. Can I just barely make out the Dean Jeffries Custom badge on the front fender? So this one is also an original issue? Nicely done, at any rate!

Well, I've done a '68 Camaro and a Ferrari GTO in Italian Red and both have a definite orange tone to my eye. Especially if you set them next to something painted Testor #3/Guards Red.
-
Testor Italian Red is an orangy red-orange. It's more orange than Chevy Engine Red. I'm given to understand it's a good color for many early/mid-'60s Ferraris, but that Ferrari has used many different shades of red over the years. But I'm FAR from an expert on the breed.

Understated and nice!

Try a coat of Micro Superfilm on them. I've lost count of the number of old or otherwise cranky decals that stuff has saved for me!
-
Fabulous info! I might go ahead and order a few sets of those while I wait for my MH order. I have a feeling I can always use them. Thanks!

Looking very, very good!

Was also almost certainly an automatic. Didn't they get the 396/TH400 COPOed just for this?
-
Magnificent! Your paint is spectacular!

Looks pretty sweet!

At the local toy show, I couldn't resist a started (but seems to be complete) original annual Palmer 1966 Corvette. Yeah, I know, it's a POS, but it'll be a hoot to have it in my collection of original AMTs and MPCs. Also got an original Palmer '67 Thunderbird in the deal, if THAT happens to be anybody's "Holy Grail" kit. Will be happy to trade it off. Box and everything.

Pretty sure it was a 396/375. http://www.novas.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-1712.html

Very cool! I have a mid-'60s Rod & Custom magazine that has a writeup on a SBC in a 911, very similar to yours. The owner loved it.

And one with the top off, just to show off the lovely Walmart Primer White upholstery and seats. Just for grins, here's a couple with the original MPC '66 GTO annual I built in 1969 and survivor-restored (i.e., no repaint, all original work) a couple years ago:

A few months ago GTX6970 posted pics of his nice Monkeemobile build, which inspired me to dig out the original first-issue I built as a kid in 1966. I could have stripped it and rebuilt it completely, but lately I've been on a bit of a “survivor restoration” kick, so decided to go that way with it. Here's what I started with. It was missing the wheels, tires, and rear axle, so I had to borrow those from a common reissue to drive on. If the originals ever turn up, I'll reinstall them. As you can see, the windshield frame had been crushed/bowed over the years. I didn't think this could be fixed, which is why I didn't restore the thing years ago. It turned out all I needed to do was tape the windshield in place, superglue and clamp one side, and then superglue and clamp the other. The windshield itself perfectly re-positions the bent frame. For those interested, I have a full Workbench thread here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/120515-survivor-resto-original-first-issue-monkeemobile-new-pics-48/ Instead of stripping and repainting the top, I decided to keep it as a relic and just built a new top from the reissue. So except for the wheels, tires, chassis, and top, everything here is original. I painted the interior sides and seats with Walmart white primer, two coats. I didn't even strip the old hand-brushed Testor white off them. I did leave the dash and carpet just as I brushed them brown in 1966. The original finish was a couple coats of Pactra Candy Pagan Gold over the kit red plastic. It's not in the best of shape, with runs, sags, bubbles, and orange peel, but I decided to leave it as-is, just adding a couple coats of hand-brushed Future for a little shine. Note the pinstripe. It's 1/32” Auto World striping tape. It's at least twice as wide as it should be, and it wasn't in great shape, coming unstuck in a couple spots. Probably should have removed it but it's a part of this model's history so I fixed it as best I could and kept it. One thing I DID do, though is cut the tape away around the door lines instead of running right over them as it was, which really improves the appearance. I also hit the windshield trim and GTO and Dean Jeffries emblems with my beloved Silver Sharpie. I touched up the grille area a bit, but left the engine alone. The idea was just to have a nice presentation of something I built 50 years ago, not a complete rebuild. Here's how it ended up. Building a parts arsenal
Snake45 replied to Slotto's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Have never bought a diecast just for parts, but have bought many, many kits just for parts. Just this morning I bought (cheap) two Tommy Ivo Showboats, just because they look like "parts mines." -
It's fun to make Something out of a pile of Nothing, isn't it! You are officially a Glue Bomb Savior!
-
Oh yes, he'd be PERFECT to help you with this.

Ollie's strike again
Snake45 replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
None of the good stuff at mine. I got a Lindberg T and a couple Tommy Ivo Showboats, just because that thing looks like a "parts mine." Maybe I'll combine the two and build a T with an injected Buick engine in it, just 'cause I now own EIGHT of the things. Street or drag Altered? -
Very cool! I've been playing around with a very similar white paint Sharpie pen. I did the GOOD/YEARs on an old Monogram solid vinyl tire and wasn't unpleased with the results. I might be using it more. One thing to watch for is compatibility between the paint and the tire's "rubber" (vinyl). Enamels are notorious for NEVER drying on some kinds of vinyl. I'd suggest testing a big spot of your paint on the backside of one of the tires you want to use. Let it set a few days or a week. Is it thoroughly, completely dry? If it's not, it probably won't ever be.

I assure you, there will be plenty of interest on this site, for both the assembled models and the unbuilt kits. It would be best if some board member who lives in your area could inventory the collection. As far as how to distribute it, I have no idea at the moment, but don't give these away. You're probably sitting on a pretty substantial dollar value. The best way to monetize them would be to sell on eBay, of course, but I believe that Harry would like the idea of his models going to friends who would especially appreciate them. Perhaps fair values could be arrived at by some means. Stick around, I'm sure you will get many ideas and hopefully some offers to help from board members. By the way, Amy, your Dad was universally respected around here, and is sorely missed by many of us every day. I never met him in person, but considered him a friend. You can be very proud of him.

There is no filler on that model. None needed in that case. I only removed material, didn't add any,

That's it! Do that stuff and you'll be amazed how good that AMT body can look.
