  1. Thanks, I appreciate you checking. Just lmk what you find, and I could possibly be interested in bodies as well. Thanks again.
  2. Looking to replace a broken chassis for an AFX Super G Plus Indy car. A complete chassis would work but could also get by with just the bare chassis as that is what broke and all of the others parts are good. Could possibly purchase or trade. Thanks for the look.
  3. That is one great looking FC.
  4. Hate to be redundant, so, just outstanding.
  5. On board with everyone else, this looks great. One of my favorite cars, and your tribute to it is just outstanding. Thanks for sharing and all the great pics.
  6. Is the same kit as the 1974 Monogram '29 Ford Roadster? Saw one yesterday in a thrift store.
  7. Will be watching this one. The lack of a good Omni body has long frustrated me, but not as skilled as yourself so haven't undertaken a project like this.
  8. OK, I said I might never do another one of these, but I caved. Picked up the old Monogram 1/32 Snap-Tite "Blue Max " Funny car kit. Love the run of real Blue Max FCs, and had to have the kit of this one. For those interested, you can see my post from my build of the Prudhomme Pepsi Challenger kit from the same run of 1/32s at the URL below. Figure I might add to what I did on the Prudhomme by working on the actual chassis itself a bit more. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30153&hl=%2Bpepsi+%2Bchallenger
  9. I will jump in on this revived topic. As a child, the "Indy 500" was special in my family. I guess my father was the lead in that, but from 1970 until the late '80s we a child and then I as an adult never missed the race on television. Living in Indianapolis in 1970, we attended the race that year. We actually attended Time Trials once or twice and were down at the pits on one day. We were in the infield on turn four, me on my Father's shoulders much of the race, as I was six. I still have the memorabilia from that day, including a set of four art prints of Unser, Andretti, Donohue, and Foyt I believe. I have some snapshots much like yours "mrIndy77", and everything associated with that day is special. Like many, after the "split" it just didn't seem the same to me, and I stopped following it as religiously. I still hope to make the pilgrimage back to Indy someday, to experience it again even its current form, and visit museum especially. In the meantime, I will try to get to work on my resin 1970 Colt Unser Johnny Lightning Special 1/25 kit, Under's winner from that year.
  10. Wow, they both look great, but I am absolutely lovin' that Glidden car. Just bought that new kit, didn't want to build the old one. Thanks for showing, just trying to get a couple 1/64 slots done for now, but that big ones are intriguing.
  11. Thanks, guys. I appreciate the input. I'll do some testing and see where it goes.
  12. OK, can someone help me out. I sprayed a body with what I thought was the correct color, but it turns out it was too light. Can I spray a slightly darker lacquer color over the original layer of lacquer? Using different brands of paint? I would be using Testor's over Black Gold. Any input appreciated.
  13. Sad indeed. I make my way to St. Louis every year or so, and always make it a point to visit CRM hobbies. An old school shop nestled in an old neighborhood I am always aware that it is one of a dying breed and dread the day I visit and find a "Closed" sign.
  14. Thanks for the suggestions. Much appreciated.
  15. I have a couple of 1/64/HO scale resin funny car bodies that I want to do. I have the regular 1/25 decals that I need. My question is whether or not there is a chain type printing place (Office Depot, etc) that has printing available that would work for getting these reduced onto decal paper? Probably not, but just seeing if anybody had any thoughts. Thanks.
  16. Great topic. I guess my beginnings came from my father who built various types of subjects. I recall him building a Cutty Sark, a USS Enterprise carrier, and a few military subjects and remember going to the hobby shop with him as a young boy. I still have the box top from the first model my parents got me to build, and have built various subjects including model rockets since childhood. I think I have continued to build for various reasons, as aside from appealing to my meticulous nature, as I have grown older nostalgia has become more of a motivator. I love the racing subjects from my youth, both drag and Indy, have rebuilt the model rockets of my youth, and now have the urge to do a few of my favorite military subjects. I see from the thread that my reasons are mirrored by many others, and only hope that the hobby moves forward and is kept alive over time.
  17. That is just outstanding. Another build I will refer to in the future to improve my own. Thanks for sharing the great pics.
  18. OK, I must admit my experience of hobby shops that are anything but local is somewhat limited. But, the best hobby shop I have visited in person is CRM Hobbies in St. Louis. Very large selection of kits of all genres, both current and older to vintage. Go there every time I go St. Louis and always bring home some drag subject I have been wanting.
  19. I guess I am a really simple guy, no dremel, no airbrush. Think I need to get more serious. But, as for purchases, I bet I drive by a hundred estate sales a year without stopping, but for some reason last fall I stopped at this one and got these two for $10 total. 1/16 Revell Gene Snow "Snowman" Charger funny car (complete with only the rubber tires ruined) 1/25 MPC Howmet TX
  20. Collector of Jari Kurri memorabilia (NHL Hall of Famer) Collect the '70s baseball and football cards of my youth Model rocketry
  21. Great stuff. Found my old AFX slot set from the '70s at my Mom's, and had the original Mustang from the set along with my much loved Petty Charger. Actually just prepped a Monza funny car body for paint last night, getting the mounting posts and body support done, and trimming and sanding resin flash. Have a Vega funny car to do as well. Plan to put them up on here when finished. Have fun with those, a whole new hobby, huh..
  22. Those are amazing. I have yet to do the Nancy car, and yours will be a reference point for sure. Great work on both.
  23. Thanks, Jim. Yeah, real pleased with the body, but as noted by myself and others, need to eventually do an appropriate chassis for it. Hmm, what's next. Good question. Kind of feeling a Snake RED, but have been working a bit on cleaning up that resin Indy car, but of course that will take freakin' 30 hours.
  24. OK, a couple of chassis pics. And, I'm switching the headers out, before anyone jumps all over that. And, "gtx6970": Paint is Boyd's Dark Green Pearl over Testor's Gold Metallic
  25. Thanks all for comments. Gtx6970: I'm not offended at all, actually, that is a big part of why I didn't like this kit. It was a little hard to get motivated using what I knew was the wrong chassis. I used the kit chassis and built the car, but I have the intention of mating up my body (which I am very pleased with) with the correct chassis in the future. HippieDude: Oh yes mods are necessary. Doghouse modified to fit over linkages at blower hat among others. Seems like every tin is a major pain.
