'67 Shelby GT350 Custom (8 Apr *Under Glass*)
taaron76 replied to taaron76's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks guys! This is a slow build, but I am close to wrapping this one up. Front seats and seat belts, front and rear windshield, make a custom exhaust and driveshaft, connect brake lines to distribution/proportioning valve... that will about do it. Probably another 7-10 days, no hurry. Tim -

I swapped out the oversized Optima battery for the stock battery and got the engine mounted and connected. Tim -

More details finished up on the '67 Shelby. The engine is just mocked up and none of the surrounding wires or brake line are hooked up. I have to cut the side of the front windshield off since I opened the doors up. I'm also waiting for my seats to arrive, but this one is getting closer to being finished by the day. Tim -
Another Beauty in the books. Well done, Jim! Tim

Jim, this is a beautiful build. I knew you wouldn't have much more left to do after these pics. What's next after this one? I will start working on a 1:1 of my buddy's '69 Camaro SS. Tim -

Thanks buddy! I had a heck of a time getting black BMF to stick to a matte finish. I used a mixture of BMF and a paint pen to finish up the trim. I still have some touchups to do, but I had so many issues with the BMF... I'm glad its almost over. I even bought a new sheet of it, but had the same luck. I usually have good luck with BMF, or at least the chrome type. I also finished up more of the suspension and just set it on the frame for a quick pic. I'll finish running the fuel line, brake lines and emergency brake lines this weekend, then I have mount the rear suspension in place. Still a lot of work left on this one. -

Finished mocking up the rear 4-link and suspension. I still have to cut the axle tubes, but can't do that until I finish the rear hubs and disc brakes. Did a little bit more engine detailing as well. Went with the LeMans style carb for this one, being it was used on the '67 Shelby when it came out. Added line to connect the fuel bowls, fuel line, throttle cable and a vacuum line. Lots more to do, just waiting on parts. Tim -

That's a killer looking interior, Jim. I can't wait to see this one finished up. You set a standard most of us can only dream of. Nice work! Tim -

Nice work, Jim! I started on the interior on my '67 Shelby yesterday, but am waiting for the flocking material to arrive. I use your flocking technique you showed me a few years back, but I just do it twice and it covers really, really good. Those are some nice little details and accents you did on this one and I always get lots of ideas from your pics. You will have this one wrapped up before too long, so what is next for the work bench? Tim -

Thanks Jim! Here are the details of the brake kit. They work great for the front, but probably a little too big for the rear. These barely fit into a 19" wheel. 1/24 Hobby Design HD03-0210 Brembo Brake System 6 Piston Calipers & 380mm Discs -

I really like this kit that I ordered for the front brakes for the '67 Shelby. It comes with the PE rotors, hubs and calipers. Tim -

Looking good, Joe! Is the clear that you will be spraying lacquer as well? Something I always do with my clear coats is to thin each one a little more as I go. The first coat is just a quick coat, and then build them up as I go, and each coat gets wetter and wetter. You got this, so let's see some clear coat pics! Tim -

Jim, I like the black washed grille. I just thinks it give it more details to show and a little more attitude. I love the PE grill, but I think it gets washed out a little without the black accents. Tim -

Oh well... Gives me more detailing to do on the original 302. Parts are in the mail, so no real progress on the engine until this weekend or next. I need to get started on the black BMF trim though. Tim -

The 5.0 Coyote Boss just didn't want to cooperate with shock towers and doesn't fit. I probably need less than a millimeter of clearance, but don't want to go down that road right now. When I did my test fit, it was tight, so I must have slight moved something to change the tolerances when I glued it together. I'm alright with the stock 302 that came with the kit. I'll use this one on another Ford build. Tim -

Thanks, Bill! I am watching your latest Mustang build as well. That's a lot of work!!!! There aren't many doors that swing out, versus in, but it seems most of the Olds in the mid 60's to early 70's did that. I never would have guessed it, with the exception of the older 20's and 30's cars. Tim -

Thanks everyone! I am still undecided on which engine to use, which is the stock 302 or the 2013 Coyote Boss 302. The suspension will have a working 4-link with a modular rear-end, but that is about as far as I have planned out just yet. I need to order a bunch of parts for it today, enough for the build to go in two directions. I can also start applying the black BMF for the trim today as well. Something to keep me busy since I already snow plowed the driveway and sidewalks today at my house from our winter storm. Jim - We did more relaxing, playing games, eating and sitting in front of the fireplace to enjoy the peace and quiet than we did hitting the slopes. It's been a weird winter for us in the D.C. and Virginia area this year, so not a lot of snow on the slopes, but we did manage to find some snob tubing routes that were open. Tim
