68 Dodge Dart 440 Custom Finally Finished 3-29-17
taaron76 replied to microwheel's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I hear ya, Jim. The weather in Northern Virginia was phenomenal. My '66 Mustang got the full detail today and ready for the car show tomorrow. Can't wait to see some pics! Tim -
Just a quick update on the grille section. Please don't blast me, I didn't model this grille to be identical to the Shelby, with relation to the Pony and lights, but just how I wanted them to sit. Tim

Looks great, Jim. You would probably know better than I, but the Carter 44XX or 46XX would be period correct for that engine. I like the Carter, unless you went with a Holley 750 DP... the Carter's were 750 or 800 CFM, I think. Tim -
Thanks! MAD modeling, I believe. In hind site, I shouldn't have used it, but it will work. Tim

Looking good, Jim! Nice to see that the alternator actually has a bracket and not "floating". Tim -

Looking forward to the updates, Joe! Tim -
Go back and read my post. This kit is anything but close to the original, and the shock towers that come in this kit really aren't there, so improvised where the mounts are located. I had to glue the mounts and rods to the body, versus the shock towers and inner fenders like it normally would be.

Thanks, fellas! I am still waiting on my seats to arrive, which should be any day now. Once they get here, I can get them painted and install the 5-point belts. I did some more detailing tonight like the bumpers and lights. I still have to install the PE grill when it gets here. I went ahead and built and added the strut tower braced and monte carlo bar. I made these out of tubing, bolts, nuts, rod ends and washers. Since this kit doesn't have the true strut towers like the original, I had to improvise a little. Tim

Welcome back, Jim. Looking forward to watching this masterpiece come to life! Tim -
Great news, Jim! Did you ever finish the Mom and Pop Nova's? Tim
-
Jim, its great to see you on here. Are you working on anything right now? Tim
-
Just a couple of quick pics of it mocked up. Still waiting for my seats to arrive, as well as a bunch of detailing thats left to do. Tim

Thanks! I usually try and foil the dash, or alclad them, but the space is really tight. There is this new chrome pen that everyone is raving about and I ordered a few. They are called Molotow Chrome Pens and they work really great in small areas on the dash, so I gave it a shot and liked it. Some people are using them for trim as well, but I still prefer BMF for those details. The fuel tank is Testors Metalizer Aluminum and sealed with their sealer. Tim

Don't worry, the exhaust is just primed white... its just a mockup and will be stainless steel color, but the brake lines and emergency brake lines are hooked up. Tim
-
Still waiting on my seats to arrive, but I was able to complete some of the interior today and piddled with the suspension. Emergency brake cabling is next now that the pinion angle is set and the 4-link is mounted in the rear. I had to make a custom length drive shaft as well. Still have to run the soft lines to the calipers on all four corners and finish painting the exhaust. Tim
-
Thank you! I looked at trying to open them up, but trying to cut those little pieces in between the vent would be almost impossible without taking some risks. I thought about cutting the entire vent out and then using thin sheet styrene to recreate it. It can be done, but would have to be meticulous in order to make it look right. Tim
-
Finished up some of the firewall details, brake booster/MC, brake lines, MSD ignition, battery and cables. Tim
-
Nothing major from an update perspective, but I got the radiator and fan assembled. This one is molded into the radiator support, which makes it difficult to do anything major with. I was able to get the interior flocked as well. Tim
-
Finished up some more details on the engine and the chassis. Can't finish running the brake lines until the axle is mounted to the chassis, but the fuel line is ran and ready to be hooked up. Still got tons to finish up on this one. Tim

Made some more progress on the 427 this weekend. My intention was to use Holley 750's for the carbs, but they were too big for the intake without turning them sideways, so I went with dual Holley 4160's since they are a little shorter. Ran the fuel lines and the vacuum between the two carbs and the dipstick tube. Tim

The 4-link kit came from http://futurattraction.com/7.html The nuts, bots, rods and rod ends came from http://www.rbmotion.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=70 I used the 9-inch out of a 55 Ford drag car and modified it to find the build, which was basically just the pumpkin. I made new axle and axle tubes out of aluminum rod/pipe and styrene. Tim

I haven't even started on that part yet, so it is just there as a placeholder. This kit is not the best kit to work with, and the front grill and rear tail light section will take some customization to make it look ok. Tim
-
Thanks! I usually use a nice DSLR on a tripod, but all of these pics were taken with my iPhone 7 Plus.

Operation Patience. Assembled 4-link with coilovers... I need to order some more bolts and nuts since I ran out and cut the excess off of the ones I installed, but it is coming along. Tim

Started on the engine a few days ago. This is the 427 with dual carbs, but I ordered a 2013 Boss 302 Coyote... still not sure which one to use just yet. The photoetch fan is nice, just takes a little patience to assemble it. Tim
