  1. I might have to do a '55 as well, after seeing what you have done so far with this one. I really enjoyed making the '56. Tim
  2. I love this build! I did a '56 last year, but who makes this kit? Tim
  3. After a few weeks, I was able to make some progress on the '67 Shelby. I got the wheels and the bumpers painted the same as the body colors. I am going to trim the two front bumpettes off of the front bumper though. Seems like it will flow better that way.
  4. It sounds finicky, for sure. It has self backing adhesive on it? I've seen a few painted that come out looking great, but it seems like the material is a more realistic way to go. Can't wait to see it finished... Spring Break in the mountains this week with my family, so no bench time for me until next week. Too many things going on at once right now. Tim
  5. That paint is flawless! I've never attempted a vinyl top, but I have seen your previous work on the Nova's and they always come out great!!! Tim
  6. Joe, what primer did you use? Is the automotive paint you are using lacquer based? Tim
  7. I'll post some pics later after I get the wheels painted, but this one came out pretty good. First time I've painted a matte finish, versus a glossy one. No wet sanding or polishing happening with a matte finish. Tim
  8. Just a little sneak peek of the color scheme and stripes. I went with a matte clear on this one to do something different and get away from shiny for a change. More to come tomorrow when it dries. Tim
  9. I can't remember who it was off the top of my head, but someone in this forum gave me that nice hinging tip a few years back. Cutting the door and trunk out is a chore, but once you do one like that, it's hard to let one slip through your fingers without doing it again. It takes some planning and elongates the build, but I think it adds so much more detail than not opening them up. This one was a challenge, no doubt, but well worth the effort. Tim
  10. Thanks, Jim. Unfortunately, it will have to wait until the weekend. I will be out on business in Hawaii for the rest of the week. I know, I know... but, someone has to do it. Tim
  11. I was able to easily get out a few of the imperfections during the primer coats. I sprayed the base coat of Eleanor Metallica Black that will be taped up/off for the stripes. Once its taped, I will spray the Dodge Green with Envy over the top of it, leaving the stripes showing with the black. Tim
  12. Looking good, Jim. One of the reason I hate doing body work is that its tedious and is such a small area to work with. I know it is worth the work, when done right, which I am sure yours will be. Looking forward to seeing more pics! Tim
  13. Len, Here is a link to the exact one I purchased. http://www.ebay.com/itm/331546418879?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Tim
  14. I ordered a new airbrush and wanted to try it out, so the '67 Shelby got some primer. I've never been big fan of spending hundreds of dollars on an airbrush, especially since I get amazing results with my Badger 350, but this was well worth the money... and half off, not to mention I love the gravity fed system and trigger style action. All of the doors and trunk are cut and hinged. I created the door jambs and got the inner door panels aligned. this one was a chore to recreate the new door jambs, based off of how the kit aligned up, so it was tricky. I also filled in the front bumper and cut the old grill out for the new photo etch one I ordered. A couple of small defects to fix that I noticed after the primer dried, but nothing major. Attached is a pic of the color scheme that I am going for, with the exact same wheels that it has, but I will add the 3-bar spinner to it. The only other difference is that it will be a matte finish, versus gloss, and I haven't exactly figured out if I will stripe it the same way, but it will be striped. This Shelby will also be getting the Coyote 5.0 in it as well, if it fits. Thanks for looking! Tim
  15. Jim, are those axle bump-stops I see? Very nice!!!! Tim
  16. Night and day difference between those two kits. Hopefully this one will be easier... I am planning on a 5.0 Coyote for this build. Tim
  17. Thanks everyone! David - I can try and put together a little video of how I make the hinges and attach them, if that will help you. Tim
  18. Now that the '68 Shelby GT500 is complete and under glass, I can start on her older sister. This is what I have accomplished in a few hours so far and hope to make good timing on this one. Tim
  19. I actually ditched all of the "Shelby" badging and just went for this look instead. I thought about putting the PE "Mustang" across the front of the hood and read trunk lid, but changed my mind at the last minute. I do need to install the hood pins though, which are in the mail. Thanks! Tim
  20. I had a great mentor. Tim
  21. Thank you! I was looking at pics and realized I forgot to attach the upper radiator hose. lol Tim
  22. Finished it up today and posted some pics in the "Under Glass" section. Tim
  23. Anyone who has built this kit (AMT 1:24) knows that the quality is lacking in just about every area, but I did the best I could and made it salvageable. I took way to many pics of the entire build to post here, but below you will find a link to the photo gallery, if you want to see more of the build, step-by-step. Thanks for looking! Tim http://public.fotki.com/taaron76/1968-shelby-gt501/
  24. Seats and seat belts assembled and installed. I'm hoping to have this one finished today and ready to the DSLR photoshoot. Tim
