  1. MPC kits cover too many great subjects to give up on and not all of them will have that much flash, some are almost flash free. If you look in the review section or ask for somebody to review a kit usually somebody here will oblige, then you would know what your getting into before you buy it. In addition, kits from any manufacturer can be prone to flash, it's just a fact of life that we sometimes have to deal with. I hope you preserver and carry on, there are too many great subjects covered by old worn out kit molds to give up on any one manufacturer.
  2. I missed this when you posted it, that interior is perfect, nice job.

    71 Super Bee

I agree with Harry, the rest of the model is so well done the wheels don't matter.
  4. Love that stance!
  5. I followed Ken Hamiltons how to found here. For some reason it won't let me copy the url here but if you search Mexican blanket at the top of the page the first search result should be a link to his how to in Fotki.

Agreed, I think I will finally get around to making the license plates today and finish up this stack of battery's I have on my bench while I'm at it.
  7. I'm not a fan of the tri 5 chevy's but I would drive this, very nice and I love the color combo.
  8. You caught that, I forgot to mention it. The side bumps have trim running down the center on the kit but most of these trucks that I'm familiar with started out as base trim and were used as work trucks so they didn't have it.
  9. They are decals that I printed, I put 2 layers of decals on it to get the color less transparent.

I used the duplicolor white primer. I tested first on a spoon and it came out ok so I primed this and the truck and moved forward with them. After wet sanding, when I sprayed the color, Tamiya British green on this and testers or model master grabber blue (enamel) on the truck, I got spots that looked like orange peel but only in some areas. After letting them sit for over a week I wet sanded again and painted them again. The truck came out pretty nice but this one still has some spots, mostly in the hard to reach areas, that are still a bit rough. Incidentally, the white on the roof of both this and the truck was duplicolor and I had no problems. I have also used duplicolor gray and krylon gray and white primer with all of this paints with no problems.

    49 Mercury

They are the kit decals but I would call it closer to blindly fumbled about than expertly.

Harry, its hard to see in the picture but the foil on the scripts was put on and the paint wiped off with a tooth pick so its under the clear while the rest of the foil is on top of the clear. Thank you, I just followed the paint guide in the instructions, the seats are radome tan and the dash is wimbledon white.
  13. To go with the Dark Side of the Moon themed Ford van I did last year I thought I would do a The Wall themed Dodge van. I have a Chevy in the stash to someday do an Animals themed van. Thanks to Chuck Most and the article he wrote awhile back suggesting to put spring shackles on the rear of this dodge kit. I can't get a picture of it but the headliner is the painting from the ceiling of the Sistine chapel and there are other paintings and tour posters in there along with a tv with a screen shot from the movie.

    49 Mercury

My youngest son wanted me to build something rusty so I sacrificed this mercury to the gods of oxidation. Actually, this was my first try at something like this, growing up in a body shop, and spending most of my adult life as a sailor, I usually try to get rid of rust. But I do like looking at the rusty builds posted here and I have a new appreciation for the effort that goes into them. I wanted it to look like something a guy found and has been working to bring it back to life so all the mechanicals and interior along with some other parts and chrome are new, he just needs to get around to doing some body work. I should do a wash on the grill but I don't want to knock off too much of the new. In retrospect, I wish I had done the engine in black and added a freshly sanded bare metal patch somewhere, maybe the bottom of one of the quarter panels.

Another stellar kit from Moebius, out of the box with the addition of plug wires, fuel line from the pump to the kit parts, and flocking. Painted testers white lightning over gray primer so it's more silver than white, with testers pearl clear. The battery and washer bottle are still on my bench waiting to be detailed and I still need to make some more license plates, when that's done I will add them. I just realized I didn't get any shots of the front view, I'll have to get some later.

    Mini

This is a kit I picked up for m stash and then had to start building. I did this the same time I did the 69 F-100 and used the same white duplicolor primer, and fought the same issues with the paint. I still never got this 100% but the thing is so small it's hard to see the problem areas so on the shelf it goes. Out of the box except plug wires, British green, white top, gray interior. I'm not sure were the plate bracket for the front is but when I find it I will put it on.

    Gremlin X

That's funny, I debated cutting them in half and adding a quarter inch to them but the tub was just too tight and I wasn't willing to spend the time on it. That was the deciding factor in why I didn't spend more time and effort on this kit, but it is a fun kit to build.
  18. This kit was a pleasure to build although I tried a new primer on it that didn't work as well on the model as it did on the spoon. I used duplicolors white primer and the testers (or Model Master) grabber blue had some issues but it mostly came correct after wet sanding and shooting it again. all stock and mostly out of the box with the addition of plug wires. My brother had a truck just like this when I was younger although his may have had a V-8, I don't remember. His truck came from the glass place next to my Dads shop and I'm sure Dad repainted it for him so the color may not be accurate to the year but is accurate to my brothers truck. Of course when you grow up in a body shop any color is accurate to any year or model.
  19. Looks great! I love me some old tow trucks!
  20. This is my 49 Ford, one of my all time favorite cars. Something about that grill gets me every time. Cut up all the 49 mercury's you want but I don't think the Ford can be improved on. This is Japanese Navy grey-green, I added a Mexican blanket seat cover and painted the flathead green instead of blue to look like the 110 horse mercury engine was added. Also I like the looks of a green flathead. This is another one that the battery is sitting on my bench waiting to be detailed. If I remember right, the kit came with a 12 volt battery and I wanted to put a 6 volt battery in it. Someday I will get around to correcting it. Also, the trunk latch went flying off my tweezers into a black hole in a corner of my garage so until I get another one of these and a trans-kit to do a panel delivery it's just going to be missing.

    68 Dart GTS

This is my 383 GTS dart. This was my first attempt at a vinyl roof, I should have used smaller stock to make the trim. I think the method of holding spraying from farther away to get on orange peel texture looks better but I wanted to try the masking tape method. The kit came with a 440 but to be a little more accurate I changed it to a 383. Luckily I did a Challenger awhile back that came with a 383 that I changed to a 440 so I had a decal in my collection. I also removed the power brake booster to make it a bit more accurate and added parts pak redline tires. Now if I can just remember to add the hood latch I can call it done.

    Gremlin X

After the Fotki switch over it took me awhile to figure out this Photobucket account so I haven't posted any builds since January. So I spent the better part of the afternoon photographing and uploading all my projects from January until now and I will now post them in no particular order starting with this Gremlin. During my last patrol I ordered some kits and because my wife thinks there neat this Gremlin was one of them. This was just a quick out of the box build, similar to one that used to run around here in Alameda. I still have the battery on my bench with several others waiting to be detailed and I need to make some battery and license plate decals the next time I run a sheet of white decal paper. The decals gave me some problems (my fault, I fumbled them) and the paint could stand to be polished but it looks good on my shelf and my wife likes it. I was using pre-wired distributors but I finally broke down and bought a #61-80 drill index and started making my own distributors, this was the first. I also should have cleared after taping off for the white on the back but it was a fun weekend build.
  23. Looks good, what did you use for the chrome? That sure doesn't look like foil, too smooth and reflective. Very sharp.
  24. What about a roll of aluminum flashing from Lowes or Home Depot or a local hardware store if you have one. Cheap, comes in different widths, soft, easy to bend, easy to polish. Should be near the roofing supplies.
  25. If you want to keep it as original as possible I don't have any ideas other than a thin polishing wheel on a dremal with coarse polish but if your not concerned with keeping it original you could grind out those areas from the back and open it up like the 1/1 grill. I guess you could also leave it alone and paint it flat black after the alclad. I should add they make small conical shaped grinding stones and polishing bits for a dremal.
