Rubbed back the first paint with 4K Micro-Mesh this morning and shot a second coat. Looks deeper now so I'm a wee bit happier with it. Ian.
-
Results of this mornings' effort. Surprisingly the paint has dried satin (any ideas ??), but not to worry as I'll be rubbing it back with Micro-Mesh and lots of water tomorrow. Still got a glassy smooth finish but no depth at all... yet !! Ian.

Not worth posting a photo, but last night I polished the primer with 6K & 8K grit Micro-Mesh, so it's smooth as a mirror now. Today I'll shoot the first coat of Tamiya glossy black. I'm anticipating I'll get the depth I want with three coats, but that may change !! Pics this evening I hope. Ian.

Is that Resene GP thinners, Dale ?? Ian (across the ditch)

Thanks Greg. Never thought of a white interior for a green car, but I could see that working. I have the MPC '69 442 W30, one of Top 3 favourite muscle cars, that combo with white rallye stripes would work really well on that car. AFN Ian.

Following all the anticipation and 'prep' for the Cambridge Show which took place over Armistice weekend (same as the UK Nationals) and last week simultaneously 'instructing' & taking a SAR course, that part of my brain that deals with modelling is really working only at 'tick-over'. That in mind, I decided to clear the bench, drag-out a relatively straightforward kit and simply build it from start to finish. So here t'is. Revells 1968 Firebird 400 in it's original 2004 boxing. The roof lining has been sprayed Tamiya acrylic 'Buff' and the chassis & firewalls Tamiya 'Satin Black' enamel. The body has been primered with Tamiya grey just this morning and will be left alone for a day or so to fully cure before rubbing back and polishing ready for the first coat of glossy black. Not certain whether in 1968 the red interior was available as an option with the black body colour, but even if it wasn't for overall effect, black with a red interior is really hard to beat and in my opinion, so classy. The bonus is that the red graphic stripes are in the kit, so it's sort of a 'no brainer' for me. Hopefully at the end of the process it will look something like this: Stay tuned & let's see !! Ian.

Revell Camaro Kits - Help please
IJ001 replied to IJ001's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The seller dispatched it within six hours of my paying !! - What a guy !!. Again thanks for all the help folks much appreciated. I have a couple of NASCAR builds on the go and my first ever 'Super Stocker' after I clear those and a couple of aircraft builds, I'll start-in on one of the Camaro's. AFN Ian. -
Nice builds, that green/white combination really works. Ian.

Revell Camaro Kits - Help please
IJ001 replied to IJ001's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks 'Snake' - perhaps I should have qualified the comment by saying that the ZL-1's were "least known" to me - which is 100% accurate. Well as it's turned-out I found a few on eBay, but whilst browsing generally for Camaro's, I found a seller in the UK who has the RoG boxing of the Z/28 RS for very few pennies and very low postage. So I bought it for just £17.98GBP ($27.75 USD) including the postage and now it is on it's way here to sunny Middle Earth. Green with black trim looks very good to my eye. What do you guys think ?? Revell Camaro Kits - Help please
IJ001 replied to IJ001's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gentlemen you've all been a great help, cheers for that. If I can find one on eBay, I'll probably get the ZL-1, as I have the Monogram 1:12 Z/28. And the ZL-1 is/was one of the least known of the Camaro 'specials'. I love that really understated look, like the big block 68 Dart's it doesn't shout 'everybody look at me'. I s'pose that makes it more of a challenge as a model aswell - it's a 'special' car and the builder has to somehow bring that out. Thanks again folks. Ian. -
Hey folks Could do with a little guidance. I have the Revell Yenko Camaro which to my eye is a superb kit, so nice that I'd like to get at least one more, but I'm a wee bit unsure as to which of the currently available kits are (relatively) new releases and which are re-treads of the older Monogram kit. Over to you folks, any help is very welcome. Ian.

Just read this thread front-to-back, wonderful (and inspiring) work here. Ian.
-
Polite 'bump' !! - Any more progress on these two ?? Ian.
-
Haven't worked on this since the last update, but got a couple of aircraft builds off the bench recently, so this has made a return. The progress is pretty-much self evident, the 'silver' has had three coats of Humbrol Gloss Cote (sic), each one polished back before the next. Then the cowl & skirts were sprayed Tamiya matt black, and the front air dam sprayed and orange/red again using Tamiya acrylics using my tried and trusted 'Mark 1 eyeball' method. So now it's back on the bench, won't be too long before it gets decalled. There's a '98 Taurus ahead of it which will be completed first. Have to say this is my first 2003 bodied Chevy, and I really like the way it looks, that elongated nose makes a h*ll of an improvement over the 2000/02 cars. More soon from 'Middle Earth' and thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment. Ian.

Thought I'd already posted this latest build, but obviously I hadn't. Finished about three weeks ago, this is the Monograms revised Grand Prix from the 'Dirt Devil' boxing. The decals are from the superb Powerslide sheet, but the lower 'Harvest Yellow' is my own mix of Tamiya acrylics. The black is also Tamiya straight from the rattle-can then polished back with Micro-Mesh cloths. I sealed everything in with good ol' Humbrol 'Clear Cote' (sic), which was also polished back. Been building aircraft for the past few weeks, I'll get back to more NASCAR modelling in a few weeks, there's the '03 Chevy to finish and a re-do of a '98 Taurus in the queue, so please stay tuned. Thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment. Ian.

Thanks gentlemen, very much appreciated. Ian.

That #5 car is new to me, is that a Busch Series car or a back-up ?? Ian.
-
Monogram 'Dirt Devil' kit built straight from the box with the superb Powerslide decals. The 'Harvest Yellow' was mixed by eye with Tamiya acrylics and several light coats sprayed with my Iwata at low pressure, the black is (again) Tamiya acrylic but blasted straight from the rattle-can. Working still on the Wright Brothers Chevy, but also started stripping and re-working a '98 Taurus aswell, not sure which you'll see finished first out of those two. Thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment. Ian.

Thanks gentlemen. It's 'Fathers Day' here in New Zealand tomorrow, but it came 24hrs early for me because at 1030, Frau and the 'little darlings' went in to town to the pool and didn't come home until 1500, AND there were no chores to do AND it was a warm spring day... perfect !! Sprayed two coats of Tamiya 'Silver Leaf' straight from the rattle-can, which covered really well, but has dried satin. Not to worry a couple of coats of Klear/Future will sort that out. Thanks for taking the time to look, more after a word from your local stations... Ian.

Nice Pontiacs John. I have the Hardees/Jarrett car & decals in the stash, but I was going to use a lighter 'navy' blue with the bright orange interior to match the sponsor logos. Ian.
