  1. Hi Dave I like what you're doin', and the color. I've had one of these kit's for a while, but haven't had time to tear into it. Looks like a lota fun. I got mine out and have been looking at it. It's a great kit and can't wait 'till I can dive in . Thanks for sharing - another Dave
  2. Thanks everyone I did another thread on this some time ago, when I first started this project, and got some good feedback and really good idea's, that helped me get this far. In some way's this has been sort of a community project, and I appreciate all the suggestions and encouragement . It'll be fun to see how it turns out. Some of my projects in the past didn't live up to what I had hoped for, so we'll see
  3. Ya Flash from the camera, especially on the front fender closest to the camera. When I post more pics, I'll check before I post. Thanks Clay Dave
  4. Hi all Well, gotter done this morning. Started about 7:30 with a little primer touch-up, and then sprayed the white basecoat. Remember, this is single stage and two stage urethanes. I let the white flash off for about 15 minutes, and then started shooting all the pieces in red. Let flash off again for 15 minutes and do a little sanding touch-up and respray, and then spray 3 coats of the clear coat 15 minutes apart. Here's all the supplies I used. Here I am looking like an alien. It turned out very shiney and wet looking. It won't take much polishing I'll let this dry 24 hours and then it'll be ready to rub out. Then I'll spray the windshield frame and the cowl semi-closs black like a stock Corvette.
  5. Thanks Raul I'm learning how much fun it is to toss idea's out there, and how I can learn from the feedback I get from you guys. "OLD DOG'S CAN STILL LEARN NEW TRICKS" LOL. I'm kinda blind to things sometimes like everyone else , so any suggestions are much appreciated . You all make this hobby a lot of fun for me. Thanks again - Dave
  6. Thanks Don Color can make a big difference, so I'll visit this again after it's painted. All the best - Dave
  7. Hey David Glad you did a thread on this . I have one of the old Protar kis, which are beautiful, except fot the tires, and you guy's pointers will help a lot . Thanks - Dave
  8. Never thought of using Corvette "caps" . Great idea These are Revell '57 Corvette hubcaps. Looks great to me. What do you think? Thanks again - Dave
  9. I checked out your website. Incredible save
  10. I know George. What's wrong wit me Must be da change in da wedder. Beena sleepin' all day too. Sure felt good . Guess I won't be apaintin this ole' girl 'till the mornin. Sure do look forward to it though, but too sleepy right now. Probly be up all night now, but I surely do feel a bit peaceful. Be good there George. Your buddy Dave
  11. Thanks Clay They're the stock 59's that come in the kit.
  12. Hi ya'll Well I can't believe I made this choice, but the stock set-up really grabs me. Most everything I build as a street rod get's the standard 24" treatment with "rubberband tires I still can't believe I like this stock retro look - but it looks really cool. CRAZY!! I MUSTA SLIPPED A COG LOL
  13. Hey Ken Thanks man. Love to see someone else's take on this. I'm doin' a "Badzilla copy" of another guy's build. His was so cool, I wanted one for myself, 'bout half done. I'll paint this today or tomorrow. Gotta take my cat to the vet this morning. Got some kinda itch goin. Thanks again - Dave
  14. WOW This is so cool. Guess what I'll be doin tomorrow? Very much appreciated my friend . Hope I can return the favor some day. All the best - Dave
  15. Yeah - believe it. It was true, but I never understood it . If ya had a hot car, the wimmen were all over ya like "stink on a skunk" Guess ya didn't have to figure it out, just enjoy it
  16. Ya - no kidding Spring break at the coast - Laguna Beach to Dana Point was the craziest. Guys would tow in Blown dragsters, the rail jobs, into town, set up fot the street with lights, but still open exhaust. They'ed block off Hiway one, right there in town and racim' side by side doin wheel stands. Never see that now - CRAZY TIMES and fun .
  17. Nope. Never did race 66. Raced up and down "E" street a lot, the main cruiz. Didn't have racing laws back then. They had to write um cuz of us . South San Berdoo between the i5 freeway and the Riverside freeway was where we went for SERIOUS RACIN". Probably not even there anymore. We were all a buncha speed freaks back then, and hoarse power junkies. My first car was a '50 Merc that I put a early Chrysler Hemi in with dual quads. No big deal back then. Every guy and his brother had a racer of some kind. It was just what we did in the late 50's early 60's.
  18. Thanks all. It was fun sharing a little history trivia - Dave
  19. Hi ken - Thanks I think tomorrow may be the day I paint this project. Bright scarlet red, with a white base coat underneath to "Dazzle Ya'll" LOL. I love paintin' cars, but puttin' on the chrome and details is the best. All very exciting stuff for an "addict" - LOL Probly near two weeks to finish. As Ajulia says - "Keep on wit da keepn on"
  20. WOW!! I checked out your sites and another beautiful build. I really like the interior. What are pastel weathering powders? Never heard of that. Would like to experiment. I think everything is done and ready for paint, so maybe I'll lay it down tomorrow . I sure do love to paint, and urethanes are almost goof proof - ALMOST
  21. Hey Lyle You do good work man I was a pattern maker for Lancer Co. of slot car fame, for 13 years, back in the 60's and 70's, so I know how much fun your havin'. Keep up the beautiful work. I love the Merc and the colors. Dave
  22. Good to hear from you Yup, those were the days. Street racin' and ridin' motorcycles with my buddies. But ya know, these are the good ol'days too. Still livin' and lovin' life and plastic. Be good - Dave
  23. Hi Clay Glad you posted this. I was sure glad to see it when he shared it with me today on a thread of mine.Just beautiful.
  24. Hey Kevin I like your tribute '68 Bullitt Brings back lots of memories man. In Dec. 1966, I took delivery of a brand new Forest Green 1967 390 Hi Pro mustang fastback. It was factory rated at 325 HP, but was dyno'd right at 400. After the Hooker headers and dumping the FOMOCO 600 cfm carb for a Holley 750, it dyno'd at nearly 425 HP. It was a fun screamer. Those were the days of street racing, and cruizin' "E" street and the original McDonald'd in San Bernardino, calif., close to you. I grew up in San Berdoo, in the 40's thru the late 70's and used to date a few girls from Fontana. Fun memories.
  25. LONG LONG AGO, IN A GALAXY FAR FAR AWAY....... Thought I'd share this with some of you history and trivia buffs, and maybe a slot car guy or two. Steve Milberry is sorta responsible for me sharing this thread, as he is building an Olsonite Eagle on a post of his own, and that brought back some of my fondest days working at Lancer co., as one of the principal master pattern makers there for 13 years, and getting to master many of these wonderful indy, and GP style cars. The "Eagle" being my all time favorite. I am fortunate to have one remaining master from those days and decided that I would share it here. It is cast out of aluminum filled epoxy resin, from a silicone rubber mold. I mastered this in 1966 Hey Steve - As Bob Hope used to sing - Thanks for the memories........ I hope you enjoy - Dave
