Thinking about this, Ford ina Ford, which engine is right? Reminds me of a revelation I had when teaching High School auto shop. Basically, The car/make, of choice was usually based on a matter of . convenience. What was at hand when Mom, Dad, Grama or Grampa gave you their car. You latched on and had to justify what you got to all of your friends.Couldn't be caught in anything that wasn't cool now could we? Later we started to realize what worked and what was practical. Well, most of us. Just a thought.

Just think about that for a moment. Back in the day , when all of this started, you wondered into your local hobby shop and discovered a new kit on the shelf. Or, maybe you were in the local 5 & Dime and saw it there? Nowa days we find out about new releases long before the come out. What if the interweb wasn't here? What if the model boards weren't here? Where would you find new kits? It wouldn't be WalMart, same ol, same ol. Wouldn't be Michaels, same ol, same ol. Not Hobby Lobby, new kits ? Not this week. The hobby has moved along quite nicely as far as information. First, '50's and '60's , the local hobby shops. Then who knew where you'd find 'em, i.e. Dime stores, grocery stores, big department stores during their Christmas rush. Along comes the BIG box store, K-Mart. Ooops, slippin' a little there. WalMart, do it our way or else. See ye. Now just a little here, Hobby Lobby, a little there Michaels and back to WalMart, just a little. and now you sat the "INTERWEB" ?

You got it. Funny how the sales point has changed through the years though. First, '50's and '60's , the local hobby shops. Then who knew where you'd find 'em, i.e. Dime stores, grocery stores, big department stores during their Christmas rush. Along comes the BIG box store, K-Mart. Ooops, slippin' a little there. This argument is interesting. Even when one compares the 1:1 to the scale models we are discussing. The whole point originally was building a Hot Rod, a vehicle the exceeded the original in power and performance. let's just skip to the chase, power, bigger, more motor. What was out there? first it was "hop ups" puttin' stuff on the bangers ( four cylinder engines) to make them go faster, Gowjobs Then some one discovered they could do a little swapin' around and come up with something better, the "engine Swap". A different engine. A bigger engine. A more powerful engine. As time went by they saw some engines were better suited to their needs, fit for example, availability, economy, don't wanna pay too much. Bottom line, the Chevy small Block fit this criteria to a tee. After trying many engines as they came available, i.e. Olds, Pontiac, Cads, Buicks, yes even Studebakers. So lookin' back you'll see 'em all. But Mostly the ubiquitous Small Block Chevys. So you don't like that Small Block Chevy ? Swap it out. Whater ya waitin' for ?

What kind of modeling book are you looking for? "How To" , "picture book", "History" ( Model types, Companys I.E.), " List" ? There's a bunch out there.
