  1. I think the car culture as a whole has some really interesting things going on when it comes to semantics/word usage. When you factor in the foreign influence, different racing aspects as well as the many different things going on ,on the streets (donks, hella, rat rods) there certainly is going to be some interesting use of terms. I taught auto mechanics in the high school for many years and as an icebreaker the first day I would hand out cards and ask the students to talk about themselves car wise, with questions about their cars , dream cars, and automotive experiences ( God forbid I'd have Mario's kid in my class). It gave me a good idea how much any one student knew or didn't know just by their automotive vocabulary. One more observation: The media and their penchant for "new" terms, words, or slang. I remember a few through the years. In reference to going to the "drags' the term "Digs" was used. Now where did that come from? "Hey Myers, wanna go to the DIGS ?" Then the media actually does "dig" up something from the past and trys to brig it back. I'll never get a handle on "GOW JOBS" they're Hot Rods. Good thing we don't have to worry about "dizzys" in our cars any more.
  2. What if you're riding a "motor"cycle? "motor"mounts?
  3. . . . is there any real proof that this has been used to recreate a reissued kit? I know the Carl Casper "Undertaker" dragster was talked about for along time as being "reverse engineered" but then articals came out saying otherwise.
  4. I've built my share. The die cast Badman II is a great "slump" breaker.
  5. Yes it was and measure out those headers. Works out to 4+ inch diameter primary tubes.
  6. Pretty much what I was getting at.Just wondered if any one thought there were others?
  7. Dave , you sure read a lot into every ones post. I thought this was about stickers. I guess you're right I don't get it. Never said anything about not agreeing with anything one way or another.
  8. http://speedhunters.com/archive/2010/09/05/behind-the-scenes-gt-gt-uk-autostyle-wembly-pt2.aspx this does look serious
  9. I would say those were just poorly executed.
  10. These would certainly be caricatures. I would put them in a different category., legitimate in their own right, just as the show cars would be. What I'm thinking about are the kits that just fall short in their design or presentation.
  11. and an article in this months Hot Rod Magazine, "Where Have You Been?" :
  12. I'm getting into the Monogram "Plum Crazy" Funny Car and just now passing my model room I glanced in to see the box art of said kit and began wondering that it really wasn't very accurate but more "toy" like. Then I started thinking about other kits that are more "toy" like than replicas. Monogram had a series of Vegas and Pintos and I'm sure there were others. A lot of the "Show" rods seem to fall into this category just by their nature. Can you think of any others? Now don't get me wrong, these can be very entertaining and fun and maybe even built into something realistic.
  13. Just dug one out of the stash and thought this would make a nice quick, fun , build. But of course after looking it over, I'm thinking, I could do this, I could do that, say, what about the chrome? Most builds you see, (and rightly so since this is a funny car) have the chrome rendered in silver paint. What if I did some BMF ? Wooo Nellie. There's a bunch of chrome on the front end of that thing.

  15. Just when you think every possible angle has been tried. This is too much.
  16. Wow! Everywhere you look. This is just too much. I really like all of the little things you've done. the spare off the rim was great. I think I would have chosen a different type wheel for the front though. To my mind that type wheel would have been used on a different type race car, an altered or maybe a rail dragster. Either way this is one killer build. I just looked at the picks again and noticed the KI11ER plates. Again, Dominik , great job.
  17. What are you missing ? Maybe someone could help you out ?
  18. Yes they are. That's all that comes to mind however.Sorry.
