Funny you should say that..... I LITERALLY found out 2 days AFTER I cut the hood that Reliable Resins offers that hood. I wanted to punch myself in the face, but what's done is done.....BTW, I checked with my neighbor to see if it was alright that I took her MPC apart. She had no problem with it. But yes, after I found that out, I felt retarded to say the least....

OK, next up is the chassis, body and interior.. The chassis was easy..I just painted it good 'ol Home Depot flat black and weathered some silver paint on it. Nothing crazy. The exhaust is painted with silver bottle paint from Model Master. I've primered the body and attached the side mirrors by pinning them. I don't think there was any way of getting those mirrors to stay on there by just glueing them! And I've just finshed the interior. Again, nothing crazy. Just trying to do some good brush painting... I'll be updating as soon as I get something done! Maybe the engine.........oooooh....LOL. Again, thanks for looking!

Call me Santa!!! And here's my other WIP... A 1970 Formula 400 which is being built for a close friend of the family. She is currently getting her Formula overhauled, so I thought this would be a great time to build a kit for her as well. Her father, who passed away many years ago, was a model builder as well. He had built a Formula 4oo about 25 years ago or so, using the old MPC kit. I was originally going to restore the MPC kit that her Dad built, but take a look at the pictures and you'll realize why I decided to buy the Revell kit instead. The only thing I used from that kit was the hood, being that the only option in the Revell kit was the shaker hood. I was using the dual intake hood. The fun part was getting the shaker hood cut out and replacing it with the dual intake hood. Keep in mind, the old kit was 1:25, while the new one is 1:24. But, thankfully, it wasn't that much of a problem like I thought it was going to be. Here the cut out piece is on top of the Revell hood. Here's some shots of the new hood on the car: I still have some smoothing to do, but it's going good so far... Up next is the interior and chassis... Thanks for looking!

Hey guys... Here's one of the two projects I'm working on at the moment. This is going to be a Christmas gift for my mom this year. She bought a 1972 VW brand new and STILL HAS IT. She drives it every day!! It's the only car she ever had so I figured it'd be cool to build one for her this year. Here's the box: Most of the work I've done so far is cleaning up the HORRENDOUS flash that is on this kit. Unbelievable. I have to give a huge thank you to VW Dave for giving me great ideas and sending me some much needed parts, like door panels and seat belts. YOU DA MAN! OK, so I got the wheels painted, I have to add the hubcaps. Here's a 3/4 rear shot, you can see I have A LOT of cleaning up to do still. I've also sanded off the wheel flares that Revell put on the fenders. Why did they add them? I have no clue. And here's a front shot: I'm going to be detailing the engine with the engine lid open. I've drilled out the kit distributer to accept wires, and some other odd and end doo-hickies are planned in the engine compartment. I've sanded off the big square that is supposed to be a sunroof (!) and I'm just trying to get the body smooth. A lot of work, but I'm digging it. I'll be primering it with Tamiya and shooting the body color with Model Master Lacquer Phoenician Yellow....interior will be black. Hope you guys like it. I'll try and update as much as possible.....

Thanks for the compliments guys! I appreciate them! Yes, this puppy barrel-rolled many times against the fence, then got clobbered by (i think) Buddy Baker when it came to a complete stop. Crazy.....

You might want to elaborate on what you're doing, it looks like an early Mustang? Give us details!

I agree with what everyone has said. GET A MAC! Even my wife, although I love her to death, can work the computer! And she is the most cpu illiterate person I've ever met! No bugs, never had to restart, no blue screen of death, no viruses! NOTHING!

Ron - MAS is awesome. Great stuff. You might want to look into Arrowhead Aluminum as well. I just got the rear supension kit from them on eBay. Pro Tech is top notch, Dave and Clay use him exclusively. I don't know if you were ever at the old BAD board, but I was the guy who built the detailed Quaker State Buick. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. jaycath04@comcast.net Maybe I can help you out.... Jamie

Cleaning Off Decal Glue
jamie replied to Len Woodruff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know that most of the guys I talk to use 2 part clear, I personally use Tamiya clear, but you have to use an entire can if you want to be able to polish it out. Tamiya goes on pretty thin.... I have to get my airbrush in order, then I'll switch to 2 part clear. HTH.... -
Very cool idea! I love it! Good luck with the sanding...hire a massage therapist when you get done!
-
VERY VERY VERY nice job Wayne! Fantastic attention to detail. You did Jimmie justice! The engine bay came out great!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the kind words!

Thanks, Billy... man, this is a tough crowd!!!!

WIP: Rusty Wallace's "LAst call" 2005 Charger
jamie replied to David Thibodeau's topic in WIP: NASCAR
Ahhh, Dave, you never cease to fail us! I think that's the first time I've seen you do duct work on the rear brakes! Looks awesome...... Clay should mass prduce those gauges, good 'ol MWI! What is the extra bar in the rear? The brass one... an extra stabilizer or something? -
This is a build I did of Richard Petty's famous crash from the 1988 Daytona 500. The first picture is the reference shot I used.. And yes, It was fun as anything to build this one! I get more comments and questions about this build than most of my others...go figure.... I have this one, along with the Allison Buick in a display because they're both from the 1988 Daytona 500. Great race....

Well, I figured I've looked here long enough without posting anything, so here's my first... This is Bobby Allison's Daytona 500 winner and my first detailed build. I built this about 2 years ago. I added a resin fuel filler from Modern Motorsports, and used after market hood pins. I made the window net out of coffee filter paper, but used a net template from detail master. I plumbed the engine, but I didn't go crazy (I was still learning).... Hope you like it!

Nnl East Announcement
jamie replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tom, Great news! Now I won't have to bring the electric blanket on line!!! Also, did anyone mention maybe expaning the tables so the closed wheel category has some more space? My builds are 90% NASCAR, and we've been running out of room the last 2 years... By the looks in your post, it sounds like that'll happen! And the size of the vendor area will be all the reason to go as well! I'm very excited about this year's show.....THANK YOU! -
Simply awesome buddy! I am by no means a Gordo fan, but I've always liked that scheme he ran. And you did it up perfectly! Jamie I like the green on that, it pops!
-
You, sir, are what I like to call a TROOPER! Cath would have my head on a plate if I tried that in the hospital room! LOL! That came out great, bud.....You can't even see the bleedthrough....and the paint is a dead match. Great work! You'll be getting a call from me later tonight.......... Jamie
