  1. Thanks! Mike, that looks good! OK, I may be on to something here: Paint sourcing is a pain for me. Nothing available locally. Last hobby shop closed over a decade ago. I have to buy everything by mail. Paint is particularly tricky to air mail. Not to mention expensive. So I can end up paying about $10 and wait a month for a little bottle of paint to arrive. For this project it occurred to me: What about the paint dept. at Home Depot? Long story short, I spent about an hour with the paint guy and he was very enthusiastic and curious about this. We went thru the color samples and compared to online pictures. Yes, we were aware of screen differences. We decided that LANCO 4K3-8 SPLIT PEA green was the closest to the olive drab I was looking for. So he prepared me a quart of rust fighting enamel (cheapest alternative to Rust-oleum) so it can be thinned and airbrushed. The quart was $8 This will be enough for a whole army of probably hundreds of models as I'll be using maybe an ounce or so. Before you ask, I'd love to mail some to you but the post office will not let me. But feel free to drop by and take some! So I did this little test. It airbrushed beautifully and since it is somewhat glossy, decals should work well and dullcoat on top would take it to the finish line. Here I did another experiment: This damaged car body was sprayed with aluminum paint from a spray can and then airbrushed the green on top. Yep! I think I'm on to something here... and the model will not rust Thanks,
  2. Hello, the In my latest biz trip I found a nice hobby shop in El Paso Texas of all places and this followed me home. Revell UH-34D helicopter in 1/48. This model dates back from the '60s and it is a bit crude by today's standards but it is going to be a fun build. I will build it as the Liberty Bell 7 recovery helicopter piloted by Jim Lewis. The famous spacecraft that sank in the Atlantic in July 1961 after taking the second american and third person in history (Gus Grissom) to space. The hatch exploded prematurely and the capsule filled with sea water. The helicopter lost the battle trying to recover it. Grissom was rescued by another helicopter. After careful consideration, I'd attempt to build the interior after the fuselage is glued so seams can be addressed. Started working the seams. Still not done but progressing. After the seams are worked I'll start working the extremely shallow panel lines. Thanks,
  3. Hello, The Revell's C6R is 1/25 and the GT2 body is 1/24. I did not like how the roll cage looked at the front. It was too far from the A pillars. So after careful examination it was modified to widen the bottom so it will be closer to the A pillar. Made strategic cuts so the tubing would "bend" where I wanted. Bracing was replaced. The dash will be modified accordingly. Thanks,
  4. Hello, After a lot of relentless butchering, I was able to get the Revell C6R Interior tub to play nice with the C6R GT2 chassis. The roll bar is not fixed yet. this is only a mockup. Also notice the molded window net disappeared. It was the wrong size, wrong shape, wrong thickness etc. It just did not work. The correct one is planned. Thanks,
  5. Hello, Destruction in the name of construction! Rusty Trusty was let loose! Testing... Thanks,
  6. Looking good! That's a great model. I converted mine to a 2002 model year. Thanks,
  7. Hello, Some progress on this one. From this: To this Thanks,
  8. Hello, Started polishing. This is only a test. Thanks,
  9. Hello, Under that hood's coat of primer there are a bazillion little strips and bits and pieces to tighten the gaps left after stripping the original thick paint. Some tweaks are still needed but it is finally getting somewhere. Thanks,
  10. Hello, Printed some Brembo logos in my computer. The interior is as basic as it can get but I tried to put some life in it with paint. Added carpeting. Hey! This is an expensive car! Scratchbuilt the shifter and seatbelts. You can't see it in these pics but I did the "H" pattern in the shifter with the hobby knife. As for the dashboard, nothing spectacular to write home about. Detail painted and dullcoated the plastic for a better look. Thanks,
  11. Hello, This was supposed to be just a repaint. But I can't live with that interior. Added seatbelt and buckle, some painting and drybrushing some light gray to bring out some texture. After all, it will barely be seen at the end. See that lump where a shifter is supposed to go? Stay tuned..... Can you notice the difference? Thanks,
  12. Hello, While the clear dries for a few days before polishing, there is still a ton of work left on this thing to make it halfway decent. There are no brakes in this thing so I have to fix that. To me, brakes are a huge part of the appearance of a performance car. There are no factory stock brakes available in scale for this generation Viper. So I made my own. I don't have a 3D printer so I cut 2 level stacked calipers and rotors. Front and rear calipers are different and the rotors slightly bigger up front. Stack 'em up, paint and you get something like this. May not be the best but it looks the part. Thanks,
  13. Thanks Randy! The other one is the badass Z06. This is the badass on steroids ZR1 Thanks,
  14. Hello, Pretty much done painting. Look how much paint was used! That's 5 or 6 coats. Thanks,
  15. Hello, A year later. You shouldn't be surprised I ended up stripping and going full blast on this thing. Couldn't salvage the paint job so it was stripped. That's the best excuse to address gaps. Started adding material to the hood. And here is where we are now. Next update in Feb next year Thanks,
  16. Hello, First 3 very light coats of paint. How light? Look how much paint has been used. Yes, I took an orange car and stripped it to paint it orange. Never claimed to be normal... Thanks, Ismael
  17. Hello, I was finally able to start clearcoating this thing. First light coat of clear and already hard to photograph due to the shine More coats will follow before letting it rest, before polishing the heck out of it. Should be done in less than 10 more years Scalefinishes 500 series single stage clear Thanks,
  18. Hello, It's been a long time since last update. I'm happy on how it is going. This was actually done months ago. Will you excuse my 0.01mm discrepancy? Thanks,
  19. Hello, Just landed from a business trip to Houston. My Scalefinishes order was waiting for me in the mailbox. I know, orange ZR1s are a "cliché", but I really like it. Hope to get back to the workbench soon. I need to work that primer a bit more before color can be applied. Thanks,
  20. Hello, Doors have been attached. First complete primer coat. Thanks,
  21. Hello, Thanks to forum member and fellow Corvette enthusiast/modeler AJM for providing a set of Revell C7 mirrors. Already started modifying them to fit this project. Thank you Al! Thanks,
  22. Thank you Snake! I used Apoxie Sculpt for the spoiler holes. But for general filler on the doors after adding material I'm using Bondo Glazing and Spot putty. Thanks,
  23. Hello, There were two big holes in the back for the spoiler. That has been addressed and no longer there. Molded emblems (front and back bumper's center) were sanded down. No longer there. Thanks,
  24. Hello, With so many started projects and so many excellent kits in the stash, why am I wasting my precious little time in a sub-par turd of a project? I have no idea! Lost count of how many hours used in this door. No in progress pictures but below that primer there are dozens of little styrene strips glued here there and everywhere, superglue, putty and what not to make it halfway decent. Just as a reference, here is the other side, still untouched. Thanks, Read more: http://race-car-models.proboards.com/thread/1846/2019-c7-zr1-corvette#ixzz6DEDwC5SQ
