Hello, A friend put me in contact with Herb Deeks. I'll let you know how it goes as he is not as active as he was. So, what do you call a stylized piece of styrene with a little hole in it? a dashboard It fits properly. It is just the the weight of the steering wheel crooked it a bit as it is not glued in place yet. Thanks,

Hello, Saw the engine set on indycals. It looks great but I'll pass this time. Most likely I'll glue the hood shut to simplify this project. I did order the decals for Rosier's Belgian GP winning car. The wheels are a big no-no. I will most likely use a set of Deeks PE wire wheels. Fernando Pinto wire wheels seem to be the best option but they are pricey. Trying to keep this one "simple", whatever that means Thanks,

Hello, Inspired by Pascal's exquisite Bugatti build over at Motorsports forum, I pulled this from the stash. Let's be honest: I just want to do something blue This is the Atlantis reissue of the very old Smer/Merit kit. This kit was originally released in the 1950's. It is a very basic and crude kit by today's standards and it does not lend itself to super-detailing unless you scratchbuild and replace everything. I'm not in the mood for that on this car. Besides, I'm far from been knowledgeable on these cars. So it will be an exercise in the basics. I'm promising myself to refrain from going wild. From the research I've done I want to make it as the 1949 Belgian Grand Prix winner driven by Louis Rosier. Louis Chiron won the 1949 French Grand Prix in one of these cars as well. This will be a long term project. This is all there is to it. Very basic. Even the tires are molded in plastic. As previously stated, I'm not an expert on these cars. But the proportions look good. This will take some work to make fit properly. Let's see where this goes! Thanks,

Hi Ken! I know I'm very late to this party but I am about to start on this kit. Nice job on a beautiful car and a beautiful color combo! Thanks,

Nice! Both of them!

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! Presenting... my 2020... Rapid Blue... Mid engine... C8 Corvette! [crowd cheers as lights turn on to a vibrant rock music tune!] (Opps, the right tire is sticking out in this pic. that has been corrected) Ok, I'm glad this is over. As I have said countless times already, this car is so nice it deserves a proper scale model. But I'm not holding my breath. The truth is that this is still a sow's ear of a cheap toy with mediocre fit and details. Having this been a proper model I would probably have done a proper Z51 with 3LT blue or tan interior. The paint job is far from perfect but I wanted this finished badly as I was loosing interest due to its shortcomings. Mods include tons of bodywork, added mirror faces, valve stems, license plate, inspection sticker, seatbelts etc. Paint is Scalefinishes authentic C8 Rapid Blue lacquer with 500 series clear Tinted windshield and rear engine cover to disguise the poor interior All black trim was hand painted (a royal pain in the...) as it is all molded in What do you think? Thanks,
-
Hello, Interior is nothing to write home about. So I painted black and tinted the glass to hide it as much as possible. Added seatbelts. I better hurry because the more I work on this the more I dislike it... This beautiful car deserves a proper scale model. Thanks,

Hello, WOW! It WAS 3 years since last update! That makes this a simple 6 years project! But it is finally FINISHED!!! I started this in 2015 but it was until 2021 it was finished. Modified Hot Wheels Salt Shaker. I originally cut open the engine covers but glued them back to speed up the project. Scratchbuilt canopy, rear wing with supports and parachute. Machined parachute tube. Paint is 1956 Chevrolet Nassau blue (one of the many colors with that name). Gotta have a Chevy connection somewhere and the spoiler picture................ Thanks,

Hello, First color check coat to reveal any problem spots. This will be sanded down almost completely. ABSOLUTELY LOVE this color! Thanks,

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN: PRESENTING... The 755 horsepower BEAST; the 2019 Corvette C7 ZR1 Hello, It is finally finished! My first completion of 2021, my first finished Corvette in over a year, my first non-blue street car in years. I'm glad it is finished. This is one of the worst projects I've ever done because of what I started with. A put a big effort and tried to take the best pictures, but this will go to the back of the shelf. This is a 5ft away model. Scalefinishes Sebring Orange paint Lower ride height Scratchbuilt rear wing Lower downforce aero package conversion (rear wing, front splitter) for top speed of 212 MPH About an acre of Carbon Fiber decal Added seatbelts Tinted glass to hide the hideous interior Home printed license plate, emblems and wall posters Thanks,

Hello, After months of inactivity, there is finally some movement in my modeling workbench. So that toy spoiler will not cut it as mentioned before. And I want the car with the lower downforce package for top speed. That means the less aggressive low wing. This was part of the reason why this project was put away months ago. So after several tries, I finally scratchbuilt by own. Based on pictures of the real thing, I did some "eyeballing engineering". The design was drawn in paper, then transferred to sheet styrene. Shaped and tweaked. Then painted and finally covered in carbon fiber decal. Now started working the supports Without supports, just to check shape and width. Thanks, -

Thanks Randy! Alright, bear with me. By now there should be absolutely no doubt about me not been normal. After the ordeal of stripping an orange car to repaint in ... orange, it should be a matter of putting it back together, right? WRONG! The car came with an unusable toy rear spoiler that supposedly represents option ZTK (High Downforce aero package). That package also includes additional aero parts in the front splitter as you can see in this picture of the untouched model out of the package. This has 2 problems: First, No way I'm using that spoiler, Second (and here is the trouble) I want my ZR1 with the low downforce package for higher top speed. Not the ZTK High wing that reduces top speed from 212MPH to a mundane 202 MPH. So I need to make my own Low Wing rear spoiler. No sure yet on how to do that (I have some ideas I need to try) but that's another story. But in order to make it a lower downforce kit, the front splitter needs to be modified. Those aero fences must go. Problem is everything is molded in and very thick. I Also found out too late the body has notches to accommodate this. So here we go: I made 2 filler panels to address the notches in the body. Having I noticed this earlier I would have blended them before painting but these will do. The splitter was severely modified and it is now looking like this: I also opened the molded exhaust. The interior is beyond hope. Everything is molded in one piece and the seats are not only nowhere near what they should be, but probably the worst seats I've ever seen since my Tonkas of the 70's. I wonder how GM licensed this. It will all be black to hide it. There is a HUGE hole behind the seats. I made a paper template and transferred to sheet plastic. Will be painted black. Thanks, -

Hello, Sorry I did not update this thread. Let me get you up to speed: Last month my airbrush went on a rabid rampage that included clearcoating the ZR1. (The blue Viper is finished and posted in this forum.) I am really beginning to dislike working on diecasts. I do it only because of the subject. Anyways, this sucker is polished. For the life of me I can't get a painted diecast to polish like a plastic model despite using the same primer, paint, clear and technique. Don't know why. What? Two days on a single decal? No wonder I never finish anything.... So I made a tape template of the roof. Transferred to a SMS CF decal and carefully cut it. Carefully but frighten as hell I applied it. Decal Sol worked beautifully. Coated it with Future floor polish. Thanks, Ismael
