Danica's 2005 Indy ride
ismaelg replied to ismaelg's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Hello, Hmm, I don't know what happened with my thread on this project but I can't find it So here are the previous updates: February update: After initial sanding and poking to reveal surface bubbles, this really needs more work than I initially thought. March update: After LOTS of putty, sanding, primer, sanding, more putty, more sanding and more primer and more sanding I am now attacking the more serious pinholes. May update: Begining to get somewhere, but this will take a looooooooooooong time to finish. I will need to remove the flat surfaces at the bottom behind the side pods. They are warped and it will be easier to scratchbuild them than fixing. Thanks, -
If I could say it in one word it is: PRICELESS!! And you couldn't choose a better subject to work on! Congratulations and thanks!
-
Nothing like a quick build to freshen your soul! And when the subject is a Z06, well, that's even better! The color will look great on that car. Can't wait to see it finished. Thanks,

People that know me know that I am very Very VERY passionate about the Indy 500!!! It was a great race with a lot of drama playing all the way. Dixon drove superbly and deserved the win. Well done Scott! Welcome to inmortality! I love Danica. I've been rooting for her since day one. Not simply because she looks better than any other driver, (except Milka but that's another story) but admit it, the girl can drive! She had a good run today. I think that more than just Danica-mania, she has brought something even more important back: Emotion! In an era where everything is regulated, even the driver's behavior, she was about to rip Briscoe's head off all by herself. And he deserved it! The security director may have save his life I feel very sorry for Sarah Fisher. She put together a team where she is the driver/owner/administrator on a shoestring budget. Not even sponsors took her seriously. Yet she made the show, did a fairly decent job but ended probably without a car for next race! If that is not true love for the sport then I don't know what it is. Tony Kannan has always been a favorite, but again fate put him into the wall after leading a few laps. They all blame Marco for the daring pass but that brings me to my next point: Marco Andretti: He is a natural. He is already stepping out of the shadow of the Andretti name and making a name of his own. The kid sure has it! He saw the opportunity and did a daring pass for the lead. Can you really blame him? Marco is also bringing emotion back to the sport. He was not afraid to say after the race that it's easy to point at mistakes from the outside and he was clearly disappointed. What would you do if your car catches fire in the pits? Call it a day? NO! If your name is AJ Foyt and a number, this case IV, you clean up the damage and go back to the race, even of you know you are 20 laps down. Is it for the money? that is always a factor but passion goes beyond that. Bobby Rahal had 2 cars in the race, but his son Graham Rahal was driving for another team. As Graham said in a pre-race interview: Blood is thicker (than ethanol I guess) My favorites for the race were: Danica Patrick Marco Andretti Tony Kanaan Dan Wheldon Scott Dixon Helio Castroneves And they all had good runs. In summary, I really enjoyed today's race. For me it IS THE most important race in the world period. Thanks,

Hello, The body has been cleaned. Sanded and shaved all emblems, locks, handles etc. and removed the snap tabs. Filled the oversized mirror location holes. Panel lines were deepen and the first coat of primer shows how it's going. The hood is white because I alternate gray and white primers when doing bodywork. Thanks,

Is Rainbow Colors still in business?

Penske 2007 RS Spyder by Studio 27

Ohhh, hmmmm, ahhhhh!!!! I like it! -
Hello, First order of business: Tighten the gaps and make the hood fit better by extending it to the sides. The body will also be massaged in order to make it fit as good as possibe. I plan to glue it shut and make it curbside. Thanks,
-
I have 2 America junker bodies but they are beyond hope. For some reason the plastic became so brittle it crumbles and desintegrates in your hands like dry foam. And none is complete. I plan to use some parts of that for this project.

Hello, Seeing modelers like MJ Styro and others having so much fun restoring old glue and paint bombs, bringing them back to life after what seemed like a worthless cause, I want to jump in. These 2 incomplete bombs were in a "junker" of parts I got on eBay a while ago. These are the old Monogram snap '82 Collectors Corvette. Yes the model is not the greatest in the world, yes it is easily available, yes it's been reissued, and YES I have a few still in shrinkwrap, but that's not the point. Let's see if something nice can come out of this. Yes, I think that's fingerpaint!!! Back in the summer of 1986, just weeks after my 16th birthday (and learning driver's permit) I went for a college summer computer internship at the Lawrence Livermore National Lab in California. While there, I saw plenty of nice cars, but one day I saw a 1981 white Corvette with dark red interior. At the time the car was 5 years old, but it was detailed like show car. I fell in love with it and always wanted to do a model of that. Thanks,

Thanks everybody! Jay, This started out as Revell's plastic Uptown Cadillac STS-V. Here is a pic of the box from Pat Redmond's Fotki: (I hope Pat doesn't mind) While this is a plastic kit, the origins of the molds were intended for a diecast. With the soaring price of diecast materials (zinc, zamac etc) and maybe also a soft market, they decided to run it in plastic. Here is a link to the progress thread of mine: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7063 Thanks,

Thanks all! Forgot to mention about the license plate: "Papi" in spanish means daddy. My father signs "Papy" whenever he gives me a greeting card or even on emails. I'm not sure whether he has always mis-spelled it or just changed it as a personal style I'll ask him today. If I ever hit the lotto (big time, not just a few little millions) this is something I would buy for him. Thanks,

Thank you all for the nice comments! Bob is right. Those are Pegasus Vantage 23s. They were gold with chrome outer rims. I painted the centers aluminum plate buffing metalizer and left the rim chrome. I replaced the tires with meatier ones from the parts box. I also like how the door handles came out. Thanks,

And another Caribbean home run! Good job Made! These cars has always been popular here, especially in the drag racing scene..... If you go to youtube and search "drag racing puerto rico" you'll see plenty of stuff....... Thanks,

While I like the original paint scheme, this new paint job looks superb! I'm so proud to see modelers from our island hitting home run after home run! Good job Danny! Thanks,

Hello, First things first: You need to take this model for what it is: A modified plastic model based on a diecast tooling. Despite the effort, it could go only so far due to it's nature. This was more of a fun exercise. Tail lights, headlights, chassis, suspension etc. are limited in details. But it's done and I like it! My Anti-Bling Cadillac STS-V Corporate Jet edition Grapefruit tree in my back yard. Garage door was open I tried to eliminate the tail lights pin marks with no success. That's what I like least of this build. Oh well, they look light bulbs Specs: (play along ok?) Supercharged and modified Northstar engine producing 750 hp Adjustable suspension from soft to race firm Massive cross drilled brake rotors and 6 piston monoblock aluminum Brembo calipers Lightweight wheels Hi-Speed satellite data link (roof antenna) for full internet access plus secure encrypted data transfers, NAV, XM, On-star etc Bose Ultra Super Premium Plus sound system DVD player integrated to sound system Computer interface to use DVD screens as monitors Special wipers designed to operate BEYOND Autobahn speeds Remote Keyless entry and ignition Tinted windows for privacy Emissions inspection sticker This car lapped Road Atlanta in the 1:45 range with street tires Who said older cars get all the fun? I challenge any old muscle car for a performance shootout. 0-60, 1/4 mile, braking, 1 lap at Road Atlanta, sound system, internet access, comfort after 1,000 miles, fuel economy, you name it etc. Thanks,

Nothing like a 2 day build to feed your soul
ismaelg replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Greg, Well, yes. But the FORCE is strong with my 2 sisters. They do whatever they want with me. If she wants it she will end up with both Thanks, -
Best part is I'll get to see it personally
-
Hello, Yes, like the title says: With so little modeling time, nothing like a 1 and a half days project. Of course this is not a car. I can explain: I've always been a Star Wars freak. But my sister is just as much or worst. She brought me 2 AT-ST models over the weekend. One for me and one for me to build for her. This is hers. 100% box stock, not even putty on the seams. This will go on a shelf with hundreds of other stuff. Of course I will open the hatches on mine and scratchbuild the interior, add details and get frustrated with it and put it away and get it out 3 years after etc. etc. The figure is from a 1/48 airplane for size reference. Gray and aluminum paint, black, brown and green washes, chrome silver drybrushing. It looks like a loose chicken on my yard Thanks,
-
As I said, He's BAAaacckk!!! Nice job... Hope to see it soon. Regards,

Hello, The much anticipated new Ferrari has finally been revealed! The GT California is said to be the first Ferrari ever to have a front mounted V8. The 4.3 liter engine produces 460 hp. The car will have a 7 speed dual clutch gearbox. The dual clutch concept seems to be gaining popularity Now the question is: What company will bring it out the model first? Thanks,

Misc stuff on the bench...Italians and Asians
ismaelg replied to Gray Smith's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Nice bunch! The 360 is my favorite by a long shot. Keep us posted on the progress of them all... Thanks, -
Nice car! I'll follow up this one. Thanks,

After seeing several 1:1s I couldn't leave the rear window pillars alone. They are way too thick on the model. So even after the body was painted and polished, I took the risk and carefully removed them. I then replaced with thin quarter round stock. Thanks,
