  1. Thanks Andy, I'll be on the lookout for it. The model does include a bullet damaged windshield, a safe, guns etc. from the gangbuster days. Gang, I wrote a short article on the history of pace cars for the Scalebuilders forum, BUT, it's in spanish. So crack your dictionaries and translators out: Breve historia de los Pace Cars Thanks,
  2. Hello, No, it is not what you think. With all due respect, I still despise '32 fords and that is not going to change anytime soon. I've never done a "classic" car. I am not really into those. But in a recent business trip I found at a hobby shop a Fred Cady decal set to do the 1933 Indy Pace Car and I DO love Indy. The car is a 1933 Chrysler Imperial Roadster. I bought the decals as I recalled seeing a model of that car in my LHS. Sure enough, it was there waiting for me. The model is AMT 1932 Chrysler Imperial Roadster. Talk about been outside of my comfort zone: A classic car and AMT! This is the car I'll try to replicate: This is the closest starting point: There are some minor trim differences but it is a good start. Typical AMT: More flash than a camera store: Parts are heavy molded, but I've seen worse. What did I get myself into? Main body components look decent: And now for the traditional start of the project: "Modeler! glue engine halves together!" This will be a slow project. I have hired Luis Ayala (papin67) and Art Anderson as advisors The original idea was box stock curbside, but I'm not sure that idea will last What do you think? Thanks,
  3. Thanks Bob, I started with these: Here is a link to the whole process: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12098 Thanks,
  4. That looks cool! Nice job on the hash marks as well.
  5. Curt, Nice job! That's very cool. I love those cars. Thanks for sharing. Regards,
  6. Monty, I need to do all that when I make a model of mine I have not tried it, but I think that for the silver looking units, you could do a gloss black base, a very light mist of alclad and clear over it. Yes that was me on the C3 Corvette forum, fighting the brakes on my '70 and getting some counseling Sometimes 1/25 cars behave better than 1:1 Thanks,
  7. No smke. blk pnt lotsa clr wrds R xpnsive
  8. WOW! Is it this one? This is my Astro Vette. Mine is resin. The MPC model was never reissued and it is very hard to find. Is it complete? built? Do you have it? Thanks,
  9. Hi, I know this is not the cup of tea of most but this project is finished and posted Under Glass. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12688 Thanks,
  10. Hello, Before we start, let's make sure we are clear on the scope of this project. This is not a super duper mega ultra build, but rather a restoration of an old bomb. Even more, it was a ZERO budget build. Not a single penny was used on this. Everyting came from the parts box. Even the paints used were leftover from other projects. The engine insert was beyond hope so it was built as a curbside. Cobra Colors Arctic white, pearl mid coat and clear. Tire decals are very old from a '78 Pace car. They looked good but now the carrier film is showing in some of them. Yes, that's a Jairus Watson original in the wall. My favorite automotive artist. Keys are in the ignition. This is still a nice neighborhood The owner of this car is a modeler! Notice the MPC Ghost Rider Corvette model kit! I hope you like it. White cars are very challenging to photograph. Thanks,
  11. That's very interesting. Maybe a pizza delivery? The proportions actually look good. What I'm trying to say is that I want to hate it but I like it
  12. Hello, Today was the Puerto Rico Corvette Day and classic car show. Very nice show, great cars, great people but the heat and the sun were relentless. At about 1PM a sudden rain shower out of nowhere had people scram like headless chickens to get conv tops up, targas and T-tops on Very nice show and even greater people. Fotki Link: http://public.fotki.com/tatocorvette/dia-nacional-del-co/ a sample: Thanks,
  13. Great score Bill! I always liked the lines of that car! I didn't know it existed in scale. Looks like a very cool project and of course it is in the best hands possible. Thanks,
  14. I am so sorry to hear this! I have the privilege of counting Vince as a friend and this is unbelievable. Get well soon and if there is anything we can help with please let us know. This is just sick. I'm very disgusted.
  15. Interior pretty much done. There is a key in the ignition... Remember how it started? Thanks,
  16. Here are some I have: C6 Z06 Floorboards are darker on Z06. Z06 also uses some magnesium components but looks similar. Hope this helps. Thanks,
  17. Hello, I like the glass T-tops on late Sharks. This been a snap kit bomb restoration, it would require major surgery to remove the tops and make them out of clear plastic. And Clearview 2000 is no longer available So the best way to replicate a tinted glass top is to have a super glossy black finish on them. Careful masking was needed since they are molded in place. Cobra Colors ultra black Healthy coat of cear.. ... and polish the heck out of it What do you think? Thanks,
  18. You and Felice are making me consider retirement and going back to building Legos....
  19. Cool project! I barely remember the movie and the PPG Interceptor. That Vette is an '80-'82. If you need the front bumper I have a snap Monogram '82 Collectors I'm using for parts for my '81 project. It is 1/24. Let me know if you need it. Looking forward to see more of this project! Thanks,
  20. Beautiful job Brendan! My favorite race car, my favorite driver and my favorite scheme. Love it! I hope mine turns out half as good as yours! Thanks,
  21. Hello, I've been very busy lately so no modeling time in over 2 weeks. Not even much online time. My friend Felice sent me these pictures of his 250 TR in progress. Since aftermarket stuff is hard to find (and expensive) in Venezuela everything is either from the kit or scratchbuilt. Between this and Luis Ayala's (papin67) Corvette I'm retiring to build Legos now.
  22. That looks menacing. Perfect paint job and stance! Love it. There is a black Z06 around town but all I can see is the tail lights and only for a few seconds. Nice to see it finished! Getting up to speed on the forum. I was out for over a week in the cub scouts summer camp with no internet, no cell phone, no TV not even an AM radio But is was so enjoyable I feel like a new person. Let's see what else I missed! Regards,
  23. Welcome to the forum, and welcome back to the hobby! You won't regret coming back There are so many things that can be talked about that I'm not sure where to start, but I'll try. Where are you located? Chances are there is a modeling club within driving distance from you. That would be a great start to learn first hand and to find out where to get what locally. Practice makes perfect and patience is the most important skill you need. Regardless of scale, whether 1/25 or a 1:1 full size car, prep work is the key to success. You already know the basics and they don't change. Many of us use real car paint and I think that would be your obvious choice too. Automotive paint is very strong and will usually attack and destroy styrene plastic. Primer is a must for many reasons and this is one of them. A good primer I personally use is Plastikote T235 because it protects the plastic, sands smooth, lays down thin and since it is lacquer based, it can withstand any type of paint short of nuclear fusion. There are also the hobby paints, which are formulated to work with plastic models and some of them can be applied over bare plastic. It's all a matter of preference. What can be considered a fine grit sandpaper in your shop can be considered coarse in our hobby. There are sanding pads that go all the way to 12,000 (yes, twelve thousand). I personally sand the primer before painting starting with 1000 (on rare occasions 600) up to 3200, sometimes maybe higher. Paint is applied in thin layers. Heavy coats of paints will cover details, fill door and panel lines etc. If you ask 20 modelers what putty to use you may get at least 19 different answers. Putties can be divided in 2 categories: solvent and chemical curing. Single stage putties dry by evaporating the solvents inside. They are easier to use but shrink because evaporation takes away mass. Two part putties like milliput (my personal favorite), dynatron and the bondo you probably use in your shop are catalyzed with an activator. Those cure by chemical reaction and do not shrink. Again, it is a matter of personal preference. Paint brushes come in hundreds of sizes and shapes. You need to decide which one works best for the application. No matter how expensive a paint brush is, if you don't clean it after each use it will be ruined soon. Start a project and share it with us. We'll try to help as much as we can. Always remember these 2 modeling rules: - There is no such thing as a stupid question. What is stupid is not to ask when in doubt. - HAVE FUN! Thanks,
  24. Gregg, I'm heading out the door now for over a week, but when I get back I'll put the link in ScaleCorvettes.com, PuertoRicoNet.com and any other I can. Regards,
  25. Hello, I can't thank Steve Milberry enough for showing how to do this trick. This really adds to the character of the car. Thanks Steve! This will be the last update for a while, maybe until it's finished. Thanks,
