  1. Wait a minute: Are you spying on me or is it just a coincidence we like similar subjects? I'll follow up this one closely. Looking great so far but that's not a surprise. Great tips so far! I'll be on the lookout if I need to use them. Thanks Clay for me as well I started the '89 Unser Jr. ride but not much has been done yet. But a bit more than the pic shows Thanks,
  2. Hello again, I hope this to be one of the last updates on this project before going under glass... Took the liberty of doing the harness in dark red for contrast. I know it should be black but the belts would be lost in the dark cockpit. Kit's tires required a lot of work to make them decent. Roll bar is brass with primer already. Will be painted chrome silver. Thanks,
  3. I can't wait to get mine, claim I got one of the first ones, open the box, take some parts out of the sprue, and then put it aside to eventually work on it years from now
  4. Hello, Adding to what others have said, the tail pipes on the '54 were longer, as opposed to be flush with the body in '53. This was actually Zora's first contribution to the car, to prevent staining of the bodywork close to the pipe. If you have the Revell '53, which is a reissue of the Monogram one, you may also have the later '54 air cleaners. These are 2 round air cleaners as opposed to the 3 bullet style units of '53. That's how I did mine: as a rare black '54 Thanks,
  5. Nice and clean! Too bad the body covers a lot of the work.
  6. Needless to say I'm very interested on this build. That SMS kit looks great, but pricey. I wish they sell the wheels alone. What exactly is included? Is the body updated? If you need reference material, I have plenty of pics in my fotki albums of the cars as they raced in Atlanta at the Petit LeMans in 2006 and 2007. my fotki albums Looking forward to see it done! Thanks,
  7. Tax credit for model purchases? State law requiring citizens to build at least 1 model per fiscal year? State law to declare glue bombs an act of terrorism? State subsidy to distribute the mag to the masses? State approval for running model pictures in the mag of alcohol and tobacco sponsored race cars? TELL US!
  8. Hello, I just created the fotki albums of my pictures from the 2005 Indy 500. Yes. it was almost 3 years ago but my fotki account is recent my 2005 Indy 500 fotki album Thanks,
  9. Sorry but Duplicolor and Plastikote ARE NOT the same. Plastikote is lacquer primer while Duplicolor sandable primer is enamel based (I think it is acrylic enamel but I'm not sure). Duplicolor is now offering a lacquer primer which may be similar. Plastikote is safe in the recent Revell soft plastic while Duplicolor can attack it. You can check Plastikote.com and search for dealers in your area. Yes, Plastikote is my favorite primer and I went to extremes to get it. I had to order 6 cases as a "distributor" to get it here. My experience with Duplicolor has not been very good. Thanks,
  10. Hello, Churning along. The more I do the more needs to be done in this. I hope to finish it by the end of Jan. The list of remaining tasks looks like a grocery list Thanks,
  11. Nice! My all time non-Corvette favorite car in my favorite color! That same car was my first Tamiya kit. Thanks,
  12. very Very VERY nice! I'm now slowly getting into open wheel model frenzy and you are not helping to stop it Beautiful photography as well! Thanks,
  13. Len, The dry sump tank connects 2 lines to the oil pan keeping the oil pickup tube fed under constant pressure. Is this what you need? Thanks,
  14. Since you brought the topic, here is a picture taken January 7th in the morning in my backyard..... Sorry
  15. Hello, Long time ago, in a galaxy far far away....many years ago I mastered, casted and sold a Borg-Warner T-56 with the differential to fit Revell's C5 Corvette, so a proper 1999 FRC (Fixed Roof Coupe) could be built. The FRC eventually evolved into the Z06 in 2001. With the release of the C6 Corvette in 2005 Revell now includes the Tremec transaxle. Surgery would be required to adapt it to a "standard" application. Bellhousing and tail would be needed, but it can be a start. Not sure if this helps but I hope so Thanks,
  16. First of all THANKS for taking the time to do this. As I have said before: Ask not what the hobby can do for you, ask what you can do for your hobby.... You don't mention the ages but it seems they are not small children. It is too soon to plan a Make and Take but you can arrange one for the near future. It is important to show them how much work goes into your models, by taking an unbuilt kit or maybe an assembled unpainted kit (I think that is reffered as a ghost build) so they can see the difference. Go thru the general steps you took to get from this to this. But important as well is to show them they can start easy and have a great loking model without the frustration of early complications. Show them common tools used and how you can use household stuff so you don't have to buy expensive gear to get started. Talk about the huge diversity in kits offerings: from pre-painted snappers to mainstream to specialties like Model Factory Hiro and others; from easy to insane, but most importantly, that there is something for every taste they may have in vehicles. Old, new, muscle, racing etc. Don't limit yourself to talk about car models. Let them know aircraft, armor, ships, figures etc. are other areas of the hobby. Show them that modeling is not just for kids, as the majority of us are adults (at least in age) and the hobby keep us young at heart. Tell them success stories on how modeling can help you develop fine motor skills, how it can teach you a lot about the vehicles during the research and construction and how modeling has opened doors to us to meet race car drivers and builders, owners of real vehicles and even get a ride in a super cool car. You can then talk about clubs, shows, the mag, the forum, GSL, NNLs etc. You can make an outline of the topics so you don't miss anything. But most importantly, show it is about having FUN! Thanks,
  17. Not only it looks great so far, but I'll get the chance to see it in person soon.... Thanks,
  18. Welcome back to the hobby! That looks great. If it's the first in 15 years, well that's even better! Thanks,
  19. That's some very nice craftsmanship. Clean execution.
  20. Ahhh It was you! I waved back but I was not sure if it were you or not
  21. ....Well, not really. Richard Prince is one of my heroes. He is the official photographer of Corvette Racing. He's been an automotive and motorsports photographer for years and his work is simply amazing. You can check his web site at http://www.rprincephoto.com/ and check the portfolios. Photography is another of my hobbies, and I had the honor of meeting him at Petit LeMans and talked cars and photography for a little while. He is an inspiration to me. I sat down last week with a friend who owns a photo studio and printing lab and from the hundreds of pictures I took in the Atlanta race, we chose 1 to be printed in the largest size he does (20x30) to see how the camera (and the photographer) performed. I'm proud to present my first poster as a photographer with copyright script and all. The other "finalists" were printed in 8x10 and some others in 5x7 but I'm confident they can all get pushed maybe up to 24x36 with no problems. By the way, the SS poster is a Roger Warrick piece signed by the artist. Thanks,
  22. That 29 looks great. The cutaway project is soooooo cool for words! I'll be following up this one.... There is an article about the cutaway car in the January 1996 Corvette Fever. Thanks,
  23. Glad to be back home and see this gorgeous build finished. Beautiful execution and the details are just right. There is a reason why you are quickly getting at the top of my favorite modeler's list. Not only execution but your subjects as well. Thanks,
  24. Very cool! GREAT paint job and overall look. I wonder how it would look with a supercharged L-88... hmmm darn it! Now I want one! Thanks,
  25. YES!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like I'll buy kits in 2008 after all!!!! Thanks for letting us know!
