I'd really like to know how you did the graphics. Fantastic work.

I spoke to Dave Knight and another fella from MAGS at Jaxcon this past January and they both said that no one really updates or checks that website or any email that comes from it. They had some flyers at the front tables, but heck if I can find them.

Is there an announcement on this anywhere on the web?

The SE Streetrod Nats are coming to the Tampa fairgrounds Oct 8-10. The local MAGS club usually puts on a model contest during that weekend. Anyone planning on attending? I'm gonna have to get a hold of one the MAGS members and get the specifics.

Great tutorial. It's doesn't get any easier than that. -
If You Build It, They Will Come!
Jantrix replied to Swifster's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
My Dad had a a '65 Commander Wagonaire when I was a kid. Built in Canada. I've got a lot of great memories of that car and the awesome summers we drove to the beach with all our beach stuff sticking out of the top of the retractable rear roof. I'd love to see kits of that and any other classic Studes. Dad was a card carrying member of the Studebaker Drivers Club for years and we attended events all over. I'd love to see a Champ pick up kit or any of the Hawk models. Stude styling was years ahead of the rest of the U.S. companies. I'd love to see that recognized and see more kits. One can dream anyway. -
Just flawless. Beautiful work.

Hmm...mistake on my part. Inserted the interior cup for the first time. It's deeper than I thought and pushes the chassis out of the body quite a bit more than I expected, screwing with my planned ride height. Gonna have to channel it. *sigh* Nothing ever works out like I planned it.

Really fantastic work. I gotta say no force on earth could have conviced me to put so much work into a model that screwed up for the get-go. I'm not sure if you're just really determined or a masochist.

Mine was a Mustang funny car snap kit molded in some aweful green. It may have been 1/32 scale.

Thanks very much for all the feedback. Here's a couple new pics of the chassis/engine and wheels. I'm sorry they are so poor. I was looking for better lighting when the camera battery crapped out. As you can see, I'm going with some plain black steelies. I like the idea of a barn find as has been mentioned and I'm certainly going to run with that idea. Going to add some washes (grime) and some running rust in a couple spots, but no other paint mods. No hood for this one I think, and I'm really going to try to showcase the engine. I'm stumped on the exhaust though. I'd done some suspension mods to get it lower but considering the height of the wheel/tire and a bit of realistic clearance for suspension travel, there is only so low I can get this. I'd love to get more done sooner on this, but I've got maybe an hour a night to work, so it will be slow going. Bear with me.

Very impressive. Looks ready to go. Is the oil filter supposed to be that low?

MikeMc, alas I'm not airbrushing just yet. It's on my wish list though. I'm planning on a rusty acrylic wash though. The steel wool I would think too abrasive? I used a well worn dishwashing green pad on the body earlier to help remove all the salt and knock down the edges of the paint as well as buff off the shine. After the wash dries I'll give that a try again. I'll have a look at crankies interior tutorial. I've got the wheels/tires done and the chassis and engine are painted. More pics tonight.

Thanks guys. Rick, I'm planning on just doing this as a forgotten old custom that has been found and given new life. More soon.

That's for the replys. As for the color, I wanted something a little different. It's Krylon Avacado green. The colors beneath are a royal blue fogged on, and the red oxide primer. Plans include the stovebolt six weathered to look like a well used mill. Wheels will be black steelies with wide whites. Interior I haven't thought about much just yet, but nothing too wild as you just can't see it very well. Likely will use box stock parts. As for the chrome parts, I want them to look well used as well so I'll be fogging on some satin gloss, to kill the chrome shine and while it's wet I'm going to blow on some powdered rust colored pastels to simulate smal rust spots & pitting. As it stands I'm going to add a little wash into the areas where body panels meet and call it good. I'm really enjoying this one.

I'd said earlier in a thread where the person was pissed about his critique, that being ignored is much worse than getting a bad critique. And I was right. Guys, I'd rather you tell me it sucks than say nothing at all.

Many thanks to Stevens International for getting this kit back on the shelves. This is my first try at using the salt technique for adding a patina to a car body. Critiques welcome. Aside from a tire n wheel change this'll be pretty box stock.

I like it! Anyone else build one?

I helped a friend out today and he thanked me by giving me a couple of kits he had in his closet. One was the Revell 32 highboy. I'd like to build this, but I want a duval style windshield. Who makes the best one for this kit?

I helped a friend out today and he thanked me by giving me a couple of kits he had in his closet. One is the Bad Man 55 gasser. I'm sort of unsure what to do with this kit. Whats sort of things have you folks done with this kit?

E.R. visit due to modeling mishap
Jantrix replied to samm1970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I opened up the pad of my thumb from stem to stern with a new # 11 about 20 years ago. The ER was packed so he closed it up with some of those adhesive strips and sent me home. I keep an exta tube of CA for just such emergencies now. -
You're kidding right?

Ya know I figured with some of the best and brightest workin' this challenge, I figured this would be a thread we'd see progress on very frequently. That being said, I really gotta say............ c'mon you slackers! I wanna see some eye candy! Outlaw, the pick-up is looking awesome.
