  1. Hmm....... Personally, I never bring a model to the same contest. If it doesn't place, then it wasn't good enough. Bringing it again, is just the hope that there are weaker models against this time around. If it wins, it's done it's job. Build something new and try again next year. I have nothing against bringing a model to several different shows, but never the same one twice, but that's just me.
  2. I need help figuring out the name of a movie so that I can ID this car. Mid 80's Michael J Fox During this movie he needed to beat the other guy in a back road car race, but all he had was a jalopy convertible. So he dropped a bus engine in it. I thought this might be a fun car to build, but heck if I can find the name of the movie. Anyone?
  3. Great paint work. Sorry but I have to ask. What is that thing on the valve cover?
  4. Excellent work! Looks great.
  5. I'm told the AMT Duster, lends itself well to this project. The chassis is a very close fit as I'm thinkin the FB500 was based on a Dart body.
  6. Looks fantastic. I had the same feeling when I finished my gunslinger. You'll be hooked now, just like the rest of us.
  7. I dragged out the SSR kit today which henceforth will be dubbed "the SRRVIVOR." After a post on an SSR fansite I've learn that more of this beast is steel than I thought. Only the front/rear bumpers and the rockers are plastic, the rest is steel. Surprisingly the top is steel. After robbing the kit of all the cool pieces for a rainy day, I hit the pasts boxes for an engine and some more appropriate wheels/tires. I'm looking forward to this. Gonna be cool.
  8. Yeah, 200+ pages of some of the coolest building I've ever seen, pissed away. I sent the editor in question a nasty gram about that. Totally depressing.
  9. Thanks for posting those Victor. I wasn't able to make it to Birmingham, but I mailed in my red 57, the Gunslinger. I was glad to be a part of it.
  10. I'm not going to go all out on this, just a neat weathered/damaged ride. I'll save that wicked engine and grab something from the parts box. A sci-fi wastelands scout vehicle. As for weaponry, I'm gonna raid my kids Bionicle parts bin. Should be building soon, we're finally got all our stuff in this lil house and should be living there early next week.
  11. Okay I've got the kit in hand, should be starting soon. Looking forward to this one.
  12. Awesome work. Great color.
  13. Driven about 110 I figure, nothing to brag about. I was a passenger in a 69 Shelby Cobra once where we pegged the speedometer. I don't recall what the speed was. It was a hair raising ride though. It was a reward for helping my neighbor shange out the headers on it. A two day event on a CJ, that was.
  14. Looks fantastic Gary, but man I'm shocked to see a single color on one of your builds.
  15. I think using a green pad (abrasive) on the painted-on-salt under some warm water, might help out. For one, it might loosen up a lot of the salt, two it will cut down on that gloss. Salt works best with larger crystals (kosher salt or ice cream salt, you can always crush it finer if you want to) and then cover it up with flat paints. I use simple Krylon flats (with their great new nozzles). I get good coverage and the salt particles still come off okay. After that I scrub with a soft toothbrush and then scrub again with a little 91% alcohol which will feather out the paint where the salt was and it will help reveal more of your rust colors underneath. Grab a junk body and give it another try.
  16. Carp shoot. Seriously though, thanks for the info guys. I may have to find a home for that engine after some time in the purple pond.
  17. That was a great experience. I was really glad to be a part of that. I also had my build sent to Birmingham for the big post-apoc convoy at that show. Very cool stuff. Here's hoping this gets as many people involved.
  18. Japanese speakers. http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/select-system.pl?PRODTYPE=49 Sorry guys, I just had to.
  19. Guys, I just peeked in a box of old build ups from my uncle and found a 69 camaro with a twin turbo'd sbc. The turbos are small and perched up on the odd exhaust manifolds, ported right into a single 4 barrel. Where I have no doubt this set up would work, I have never seen a 1:1 car built in real life like this. And did the kit come with mismatched rims or is that my uncle being wierd? Any ideas?
  20. I'm going to do a 57 Fairlane topless and I was wondering what is the best way to cut the roof off without damaging the front windshield frame. A #11 or Zona saw seem a bit risky to me. Ideas?
  21. Fantastic! It looks beautiful.
  22. I'm workin on it Cranky. I'll be building soon.
  23. Anyone know much about this thing? How much of this car is metal and how much is plastic? Front bumpers, top, fenders? I'm gonna look pretty silly weathering this thing when someone says, "Errr. Jantrix- the top is fiberglass." Any help would be appreciated.
  24. Cranky I'm going to get in on this as well. Should be building soon. Gonna use the Chevy SSR. I'll be weathering it as well, just as soon as I figure out how much of this car was plastic from the factory.
