  1. Thanks Bob. I was wondering if anyone here remembered Islip! I watched him run there too. He also had a Mustang (1st gen coupe body) that I remember well. I'm sure you remember it too. I used those same Pinto pics for my build reference. I have plans in the works for a Charlie J coupe and Vega. Thanks for the reply.
  2. I hope this is allowed here. I think NASCAR did/does sanction the modified tour. I built this a year or two ago from the Model King reissue. I shortened the front frame 1/4 inch and used a few aftermarket decals. This one of my favorite builds.
  3. Excellent historical series. Thanks Luke!
  4. Outstanding build Don. The colors and period details are perfect. I can smell the $.45 a gallon Sunoco 260 now!
  5. Thanks. It's Testors MM Laquer #28121 Plum Crazy Metallic with #28139 Ultra Gloss Clear.
  6. I carved out a little modeling time this weekend. I got the tail panel blacked out and polished and buffed the paint. I'm having a blast with this build
  7. Looks to me that you need the rare and hard to find Clearview Release Agent. A friend of a friend's cousin of mine has a half can but the product specific nozzle is broken. Good luck!
  8. Now that's a Ford you don't see built up very often! Looks great. Please keep us posted on this one.
  9. Now that's good work. Nice back conversion. Perfect colors and look. Nice job!
  10. Got Tea ? Outstanding, er...job! I think you started a new genre, I'll call it "Junker Rod". looking forward to seeing what you do with that bird. Can we expect to see daylight through the body panels?!?!
  11. Wow, that's NIICE! Those carbs look great. No, never get tired of seeing 49 Merc builds. Be sure to post more of this one!

  13. I scuffed the side walls good with a scotch Brite pad first. Good friend Don B., who also posts on this board, applied the red lines with Tamiya flat red jar acrylic paint loaded in to a quill tip bow compass. An old 64 GTO hup cap was used as a center pivot point. This is a skill I haven't mastered yet!
  14. The wheels are from the new 49 Merc kit, the tires are from the kit (also same as in the Merc kit).
  15. The clear is dry and I flat blacked the hood today. I was anxious to see how it was going to look, this is just a wobbly fun tac and masking tape mock up. Looking forward to adding the black bumble bee stripe! It's great when all the individual components of a build start to come together to form a 'look". What ya'll think?
  16. Thanks to your help and advice!!!!
  17. Thanks Ron, here's a link to the build up so far....Good luck with your build. Post some pics if you can! http://public.fotki.com/bigfordpilot/my_bu...s/69-super-bee/
  18. A perfect day for painting here in Northwest Florida, sunny, 60 degrees and low humidy! Color is MCW Mopar Butterscotch laquer. I'm really likin' this stuff . I decanted it and shot it through my old Paashe single action.
  19. Great look. The color, stance and wheel choice work perfectly!
  20. Looking good Don. That red really pops!
  21. MCW Butterscotch laquer. I got a few inevitable nits in it so after a little color sanding I'll start laying on the clear.
  22. I wouldn't worry too much about the color of a dragster engine..very rarely were they painted a factory color.
  23. Welcome Ripp. I'm also over 50. I think a lot of us here are. Looking forward to seeing your builds!
  24. I like it! I noticed you removed the B post to make it a hardtop. Looks good.
