  1. Tim, Very impressive! That colour scheme really does look well. Best Wishes Dave Bates
  2. Check the topic/thread posted by Chris (Twist67) He built a 281 from a big window 359 http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17408 Best Wishes Dave
  3. Tim, Am I right in saying that the 351 Pete was available until the mid 1970s? I'm sure I saw a 351 for sale on Ebay some time ago with the big window cab from about 1975???? Thanks Dave
  4. Kurt, Superb workmanship. The doors are great, did you use the Piano Hinges from Model Car Garage? I look forward to seeing this one finished. Best Wishes Dave
  5. Uwe, Very Impressive. I like the weathering detail, very convincing. Good Luck with the rest of the build! Best Wishes Dave
  6. Just had to post this video on Youtube. It was made by the last owner of the only surviving Pete used in the movie Duel. The truck is now owned by Dan Bruno. Interestingly he also owns the last remaining R700 MACK used in the movie Convoy. Hope you enjoy. Best Wishes Dave PS does anyone know what the original colours for the Duel Pete and trailer are? To me it looks like a brown or metallic bronze with purple fenders???
  7. Ray, Many thanks for posting these colour schemes. Where did you get them from? I will copy them to my computer. Thanks again. Best Wishes Dave
  8. Mike, I don't know if you can help me but I have many questions regarding number plates and other things. Why do some trucks require more than one licence plate? Does the trailer have to have the same licence plate as the truck? What was the purpose of the "Bingo Card" and was it fitted to the front of the tractor only not the trailer? What were all the numbers on the side of trucks for? On modern trucks I see there is a number sometimes at the bottom of the doors which says USDOT######. Does this number refer to an annual test or inspection? Many Thanks Dave
  9. Alex, Great looking truck so far. Why do Italeri not put an engine in the kit? Gives you the feeling of being short changed. The engine is one of the points of real interest for me. Good Luck with the rest of the build. Best Wishes Dave
  10. Andy, Nice Work! The weathering looks good. Its interesting to note that when they made the film Duel the truck(s) had to go into make up before they started filming. The dirt, wear and tear of many hard years on the road was not enough. They had to put the trucks through "Make Up" to get the right effect. Best Wishes Dave
  11. Ray, Thanks for the reply. "The Purple Bath"??????? Best Wishes Dave Bates
  12. Kurt, Very impressive. The whole truck looks right, the fit between the hood and the cab is perfect. Frame not too long or too short. Yes very impressed!! Thanks for the information on the mirrors. I might have a go at making some in the near future. Thanks for posting and good luck with the rest of the build. Best Wishes Dave
  13. Simon, Very impressive. The paintwork looks perfect to me the satin sort of finish gives the appearance of aged paint work of a truck that has spent many years on the open road. Yes I like it!! Best Wishes Dave Bates PS Simon how did you go about making your own decals. I fancy having a go it myself but not sure where to start????? What programmes, printers etc are required?
  14. Ray, I agree! Another great looking truck from Bill's stable. Dave Bates
  15. Bill, This is a superb truck and trailer and of a very high standard of build. I like it!! Best Wishes Dave Bates
  16. I was also looking for a source for roof lights. The ones I was after are the same as the ones in the ERTL MACK DM 600 and 800. I used the ones I had in my DM kit for the Pete 351 I made some time ago. With reference to the exhaust stacks I have made my own just using plastic tube and photo etched mesh. Here is a link to my Autocar: http://public.fotki.com/oldalbion/autocar-...nprogre-12.html Hope this helps Best Wishes Dave Bates
  17. Chris, Great looking truck, good colour combination and I like the steering axle. Best Wishes Dave Bates
  18. Uwe, Glad to see you and Chris (Twist67) back into model truck building (Engineering). That dash is quite amazing to say the least. The idea of using resin compound for the glass in the dials is great. Its hard to imagine how small the plastic parts for a model truck are when you see the detail photographs. It just looks so real. Good Luck with the rest of the build. Dave Bates
  19. Jim, Thanks also for posting the details on the MACK. They will come in usefull for detailing a 500 HP MACK V8 from Auslowe I will be building in a future project. Best Wishes Dave Bates
  20. Kurt, This is coming along very well. Looks very realistic with all the little details. At this stage in the build it reminds me of a truck on a production line like the part built truck Tim built in the Peterbilt factory in St Ignace Michigan. Just one question how did you make the little mirrors on the hood fenders? They are a great little touch of detail. Good Luck with the rest of the build. Best Wishes Dave Bates
  21. Ray, Interesting project. I have a restoration planned for my first truck build since I got back into building model trucks. One thing that I have not worked out yet. How do you seperate the parts (Once Glued) without damaging them? Good Luck with the project. Best Wishes Dave Bates
  22. Chris, Noce short frame tractor. Good colour choice I shall look forward to seeing the updates. Best Wishes Dave Bates
  23. Bill, Superb looking old Pete. I like the colour scheme it works well with the age of the truck and I like your hood. This would look great photographed outside in natural light. I bought the original 359 wrecker kit sometime ago and have been thinking about a possible build as a long hood 351 but without the sleeper. Best Wishes Dave Bates
