  1. Jerry, Very Nice build! I really like the old White trucks. With regards to nuts, bolts and rivets try this: www.scalehardware.com
  2. Scott, This is excellent, the attention to detail is very good. Have you ever thought about building a trailer with a torsion bar suspension? I saw one or two at the ATHS truck Show in Hutchinson Kansas. There were two day cab Kenworths with 12V71 Detroits both had torsion bar suspensions. These were very impressive. As a result an extended hood W900 with a 12V71 and torsion bar suspension is planned as one of my future builds. If possible I want to try and make the torsion bar system a working suspension. Hmm! Need to give this some thought.
  3. Great looking rig! I like the low boy with the old D8. Did you scratch build the 119" BBC hood or is it a conversion?
  4. Tim, Superb old Pete! I always liked the older trucks. I went to the ATHS Truck show in Hutchinson in May. Loved every minute of it, the trucks, the people everything! Took lots of photo's and have some great ideas for future builds. Thanks for posting and keep up the great work!
  5. Rick, What a great looking old Pete Cabover! The weathering looks very good. I like it.
  6. Looks good for 7 years old. I hope my trucks look that good in 7 years time!
  7. Tim, Another superb pair of trucks. The photo's outside look really convincing, all thats needed now is a pair of "B Train" trailers.
  8. Ray, Great to see you making progress on a project!! I like what you've done so far. The cab tilt mechanism, steering front axle and day cab are great ideas and make the build that much more interesting from box stock. Are you going to use the kit engine (8V71???) or perhaps a 6V92TA or something else? Have you had any thoughts about a working rear suspension? Best Wishes
  9. This is an exellent looking truck. The weathering is exceptional and looks really convincing. The Kenworth Alaskan Hauler is a particular favourite of mine. I have a kit ready for building in the distant future. Does anyone know what model number designation this Kenworth is? Also what options were available with it? For example engines, transmissions, Extended Hoods, number of axles, load carrying capacity, severe weather options etc. I'm thinking of building mine with a Cummins KTA 600 with an extended hood, but were they available with this model Kenworth?
  10. Interesting looking truck! Nice colour combination and I agree the bed looks good, is it made from individual planks? Great Work So Far. Good Luck with the rest of the build!
  11. Paul, This is a great looking example of model engineering at its best. I really like it. I bet if you photographed it outside with the right kind of background you would be hard pressed to tell it wasn't the real thing.
  12. Ray, I never new that it was a four valve head. Thanks for sharing that. Is the 400 Big Cam 3 and 4 an NTC 400? Not sure myself. Tim, If you want to know more about old engines in trucks try the ATHS web site www.aths.org I joined the ATHS a month or so ago. The discussion board is great there are a lot of good things said about the old Cummins engines very enlightening and informative for someone like me looking in from the outside.
  13. Tim, Very impressive start! I like the battery details and the steering front axle. The engine is the Cummins NTC 350. The N means that it is the N Series 855 Cu In. The T means that it is Turboscharged and the C means that it is Custom Set (Never found out what this means). The horsepower is 350HP. Would normally have been painted white when installed by Peterbilt. But if you bought one direct of Cummins it would have been Cummins Beige. If the engine had been overhauled by Cummins at some time it may well have ended up Beige also. I'm not keen on the white colour for engines and tend now adays to go with the engine manufacturers colours. I used to paint engines any colour that showed the details of best. The Engine colour is not that important because some people prefer the engine their own colour maybe the same as the frame or Cat Yellow. The important thing to remember is that its your choice the engine looks good and it looks like your having a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing the photo's and some great workmanship. Good Luck with the rest of the build!
  14. The next time any of you guys are carrying a coil it would be great to see a photo if possible to show how it is loaded and chained down. In fact any photo's showing different types of loads and how they are tied down would be very usefull and I'm sure will give a alot of us on the board some great ideas. Many Thanks
  15. Ray, That ol' Pete looks a good candidate for a model project.
  16. Ray, Thats a nice looking truck. Do you have any other photo's? A lot can be said for buying an older vehicle. There are risks attached to it but when you compare the price of a used truck to brand new there are big savings to be made. Especially if you can get a truck with a big engine, chances are it won't have been flogged to death and will still be good for many miles to come. Its good to here that youre getting on top of things. Good Luck and drive safely!! PS how is that Freightliner cab over coming on the one with the engine under the frame?
  17. Scott, Great idea. Do you have coil carrying trailers in the US and Canada? The general purpose ones here in Britain are like a flat bed trailer but with removeable boards between the frames so that the coils will sit in the well between the frames.
  18. Dan, Great write up! I made a working extended leaf walking beam suspension for my 351 and have just completed another working walking beam for my A64B Autocar. It can be a bit tricky exercise, but well worth the effort and brings just that bit more interest to a truck. I hope other modelers read this how to and have a go themselves.
  19. Very Impressive! I like the details like the pressure gauges and the hoses. Excellent work!
  20. Kurt, This is coming along well! I like the interior details. Look forward to seeing the finished truck photo's. Good Luck with the rest of the project!
  21. Ray, The Autocar is coming along nicely. I'm just waiting for the decals from Dan Poulin and then I can finish it off completely. I dodged the rain showers this morning and took a few photo's. http://public.fotki.com/oldalbion/autocar-8-x-4-heavy/ Thanks for looking! PS. How are you coping with the price of Diesel!!!! £1.20 a litre here in Britain thats equivalent to $9.08 a US Gallon and its 80% Tax.
  22. Very nice looking Pete. I really like how model trucks look when the photos are taken in natural light it really brings out the detail and gives a more real look to things. Yes great build!
  23. I like the interior details and the outside colour looks well. Great build! I agree with a live stock trailer or maybe a tank trailer in the same livery with some company decals. Lots of options either way great looking truck.
  24. Kurt, On the engine it has the Air Intake on top as part of the engine itself, but in one of the photo's it shows an external air intake. Is this some how plummed into the intake on top of the engine? Or is there a different purpose to each intake? I keep coming back to this thread, the gold the weathering and the decals really look convincing. Hope things are going according to plan. I will certainly look forward to the photo's of the DM finished.
