Autocar Rebuild Update
Old Albion replied to SpreadAxle's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Ray, Progress looks good so far. With regards to colour, maybe the frame the same blue as the Autocar with the aluminium body. Either way it looks like it will turn out great. Have Fun -
Anthony, Yet another great truck. The paint finish on your trucks is superb.

Ray, Go to http://public.fotki.com/oldalbion/peterbilt-380-heavy/ to see photo's of my heavy duty drop deck trailer. The deck was made of thin wood sheet from my local hobby shop. To simulate planks I scribed lines on it with a black pen. Seems simple but effective. -
IMC Tanker Trailer
Old Albion replied to Old Albion's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks for all the comments and ideas, most appreciated. That Duel Truck and Trailer look great. The weathering is just about right. I have the Duel DVD, there is an interview with Steven Spielberg. He says the truck had to go into make up at the start of every day to achieve the right kind of look. In some of the close ups you can see the fumes coming of the hot oil and grease that was applied. Phew!! wouldn't liked to have been down wind of it. But what I'd give to have a go of such a truck. Thanks again for the comments. -

IMC Tanker Trailer
Old Albion replied to Old Albion's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Tim, Steven, Yes the tank halves were a bit tricky. Got there in the end though. This kit seems extremely versatile. I have the THC version in my collection and wondered about the history. I will keep my eyes open for the flat bed trailer and van trailer. Did IMC make any other trucks and trailers? Thanks for the comments. -
Having completed my Pete 351 I was after a suitable period trailer "1960s". I had seen this on E-bay some months ago and snapped it up. I had never heard of IMC??? but the kit looked interesting and looked very 1960s. It reminded me of the trailer from the Pete in Duel. My first intentions for the Pete was to build the Great Dane extendable flat bed trailer. But when I opened the box I found that the black components (frame) were missing. Hmmm!!! I had missed that when I bought the kit. Never mind. My attentions were drawn to the IMC tanker. I opened the box started messing about with the parts, before I realised it I had begun construction. So the IMC trailer it is. This is a great little kit, very basic and simple and was from the right time zone as the Pete. The trailer will be in a similar paint scheme and will be a Milk Tanker. Not many photo's yet but I will soon rectify that once the tank is out of the paint shop. Thanks for looking

Thanks for the info Ray. I had a look through the different projects. Some of the ideas are superb. That Autocar wrecker looks interesting, it look right, as if they were made for each other. I seem to be scratch building more and more these days, always looking to try and push myself and abilities that little bit further with each build, (Still a long long way to go). My first complete scratch build was the bottom dump trailer. http://public.fotki.com/oldalbion/bottom-dump-trailer-/ I was a bit apprehensive at first but the result was Ok and gave me confidence to try other things on my later builds. This was loosly based on a General trailer unit. Check their Web site they have some dimensioned drawings and other usefull info. http://www.generaltrailerparts.com/bellydmp.htm With the high price of kits on E-bay and limited designs but good availability of aftermarket and scratch building parts, I'm thinking more and more these days to design my own equipment, particulaly trailers. One project that interests me is my own gooseneck Low boy trailer. But one thing at a time, back to the trailer for the Pete 351. -

The Pete brought me a lot of pleasure and satisfaction and from the comments above it appears to have brought a lot of other people pleasure and satisfaction, that for me is the only award worth having. Thanks again -

My old truck!

Johnny, The 379 looks superb. I don't know what the regulations are like in the US or Canada, but here in the UK they are very strict. Every Single aspect of running and operating a truck is controlled in law. It seems everything in life these days is regulated!! Great Truck. -
Ray, Great to see some photo's of your truck. Stumbled across this KW on Ebay. For a second hand truck and in an auction its a bit pricey?? Still great looking truck though. Some times your better off with the "Devil you know" What sort of price would a new truck cost like this one on E-bay? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-KENWOR...1QQcmdZViewItem Anyways thanks for sharing the photo's with us. Best Wishes Dave Bates

Johnny, That paint scheme looks superb. Love the single headlights. Great Work! -
Ray, I've come up against one or two sellers who have been looking to buy kits. They bid early at very low sums and hope no one else sees the auction. Once some one else starts to bid and it looks like the price will be more than a few dollars they don't bid anymore. They must spend all day searching the web looking for kits. Buying them for a song and then selling them for inflated prices. I've seen a lot of these kits not sell. What people forget is that it is an auction and it is only worth what people are willing to pay.
