  1. Craig, What a great build. Love the scratch built skip and the tarpauline (I think this is how you spell it). Superb details! Best Wishes Dave Bates
  2. Tim, I like this truck. It is both pleasing to the eye and has important historical significance. Some how in Some way our little hobby has a responsibility to contribute to the record of the present and the past to help educate the generations to come. These were the machines that helped to shape the world that we lived in. Well Done Great Build! Dave Bates
  3. Try this link! http://www.geocities.com/scalerealism/ Dave Bates
  4. What an interesting workhorse of a truck! Great build. Dave Bates
  5. Chris, This is a great build. The weathering is very realistic. Yes the wipers do look odd, but as Mike said they had a big windshield to clear. Dave Bates
  6. Tim, The little Ford looks a well balanced truck. The colour scheme and mixer reminds me of the Kenworth Challange Mixer. "Bet you didn,t pay over $200.00 for it though??? Great Build. Dave Bates
  7. Jared, This is a great kit. I built an original issue one about 2 years ago when I first got back into model trucks. I was still learning/experimenting with painting using the airbrush. I have to say that painting is not one of my strong points and still struggle with it today. I found that the original yellow plastic colour was difficult to paint yellow. But the result was satisfactory and I quite like the end product. Take your time and plan the build carefully. Be prepared to spend some time to get it right. But above all enjoy yourself, the result will be worth it. I will post some photo's as soon as I have built up an album. Best Wishes Dave Bates
  8. Well I've made a start to the Pete. The chassis is virtually built apart from a few details. The rear suspension is complete (At last!!!) This took me several hours to get all the pivot pins made and get the suspension operating correctly. Reminds me of Tim's comments about his Canadian Picker. Still its done now. I will probably finish the chassis off during next week and paint it next weekend. http://public.fotki.com/oldalbion/1964-peterbilt-351/ Hope you enjoy the photo's. Thanks for looking. Dave Bates
  9. Tim, Another great little work horse. Like the interior colour, is that a Mack colour? Dave Bates
  10. Dave, I think Spider Mike's truck is a Diamond Reo. Dave Bates
  11. My latest project is a Peterbilt 351 tandem drive tractor unit. It is based on a Truck I found on Brad Wike's web site. (no longer on the web site) http://bradsclassictrucks.com/ I think Brad sold it some time ago but he used it as his Christmas Lights truck. It was in need of full restoration. Was fitted with an 8V71 Detroit Diesel, twin stick transmission and walking beam suspension on rubber pads. My version will be in the restored condition and well capable of doing the job it was intended to do. The base kit is the AMT little window california hauler. I have built up the metal front axle from KFS. All wheels will rotate and the front wheels will steer. The rear suspension walking beams will operate. Both cab doors will open and the butterflt hood will work. You can see from the photo's I have not done too much yet. But as soon as I have made more progress I will post more photo's. The photo below shows where I have got to and the reference information I am using. Interestingly in the back of the Manual there is the Specification Assembly Inspection document for a 351 a 1958 truck no L-4420. There is also a Truck Assembly Sheet for a 1966 351 frame assembly no 15686. This gives me an idea for a future project. Build a truck to the data sheets as originally designed or maybe devise my own specification sheets for a truck build. Imagine putting your own owners manual together. That would be some project. Anyway back to the present one hope you enjoy it. Best Wishes Dave Bates
  12. Zeb, If you want to find out about Peterbilt trucks check this web site: http://tahlborn.web.aplus.net/tim.htm Tim probably knows more about Peterbilts' than all us put together. Tim correct me if I'm wrong. The Pete 351 was a Needle Nose Peterbilt with the Butterfly Hood (The truck from Duel). The 358 was a 351 with a Tilt Hood. Dave Bates
  13. Tim, What a great looking heavy truck! Will there be a trailer to go with it? Dave Bates
  14. Zeb, Check this web site!! Spalding Trading and Shipping http://www.stsmodeltrucks.com/cart.html Dave Bates
  15. Just put the finishing touches to both engines. All I need to do now is find a home for these beasts. A Pete 359 definately and maybe the Kenworth Alaskan Hauler. Thanks for looking. Dave Bates http://public.fotki.com/oldalbion/cummins-kta-600-die/
  16. Matt, Thanks for the info. As soon as I see the torsion bar suspensions on your web site I'll be in touch. I posted my question on the forum just in case anyone else was thinking of building an old Kenworth. Many Thanks Dave Bates
  17. Question for Monkeyclaw. Matt, I see on your web site you have a needle nose Kenworth Cab and hood. Would this be a Kenworth from the 1960's? The reason why I ask is that I am thinking of building an old model Kenworth from the 1950's The one with the single external headlights and butterfly hood. Do you have any plans for producing the older Kenworth or could I modify your existing needle nose version. Many Thanks Dave Bates
  18. Tim, Another great build. The more I see of your more modern Pete's the more I am thinking of building a 379. By the way I loved the 379X in black that you built a couple of months ago. What a great looking truck. One question I have regarding the 357 and other US trucks. Why do they have the short bumper leaving the front wheels un protected? Best Wishes Dave Bates
  19. Michael, Another Great Build. Superb! Dave Bates
  20. What a great looking truck. The weathering and little display are superb. The Unimog has a good reputation for its ability to go just anywhere and do anything. Here in the UK they are very popular in Agriculture, for obvious reasons. Great Work. Best Wishes Dave Bates
  21. I,m pretty certain that the engine in the Revell Peterbilt 359 is a Cummins NTC475. I found a web site where they are selling a NTC475. Check the link below for further details. http://www.dieselenginemotor.com/diesel/engines/27,1.html Hope this helps. Dest Wishes Dave Bates
  22. Hello Folks, I,ve just received a KTA Cummins Manual that I bought on Ebay. Full of great information complete with the smell of old engine oil. Hopefully over the next week I should be able to finish the engines. Best Wishes Dave Bates
  23. Tim, Good to see you decided to build a real Pete for a change. Hee! Hee! Just joking. 359s and 351s are my all time favourites. This one looks the business! Great Truck! Best Wishes Dave Bates
  24. Ben, This is a great looking project. The colour is great, as is the paint finish. Well done so far. Good luck with the rest of the build! Best Wishes Dave Bates
  25. Tim, Great little plug for Truck modellers every where. Good to put a voice to the photos. Best Wishes Dave Bates
