  1. Just another update, all the little stuff is finished. I might perhaps add some more detail to the body but so far iv painted on the chrome trim, added the real trim, and some other touch ups here and there. its almost done, i think all that really remains is the hood.
  2. Yeah im starting to think that the kit i have right now is the Tamyia 240Z rally kit, while the other is the Tamiya 240ZG kit. Both kits however seem to be fully interchangeable, which works out quite well for me! However i still plan on building the other in the future, only far less stock meaning that i can rob small things like door handles, and wheels. For the sunroof, my dad did mention that his was done custom. The sunroof made me kinda curious as they are difficult to get rid of, meaning that if his car is still around it would be super easy to spot it just by looking at the roof.
  3. Lol, i dont think you would be saying that if you had to paint this brown, the body turned out fine but as far as the other body panels not seen in the photo, they are not fairing out so well.
  4. If you need some more inspiration, my dad remembered recently that when he sold the car to the auto wreckers, the wreckers made the executive decision to fix up the car and sell it... So its possible the car can still be out there! Considering its a early Z car, I cant help but feel that the car might still be out there, but considering it was cursed its possible that sometime after my dad owned it, it finally to turned into a toaster. The one thing that is interesting though is that my dads car had a sunroof which I dont think any early Z cars came with, so if the cars still out there just looking at the roof would prove it. Never the less i did end up cutting the sunroof into my build as well, its starting to really come together now. I did finally bust into the other box, swapping some parts that i dont think id use in my next build.
  5. Thanks! hopefully i can make something close to some generic rectangle air filters.
  6. So some more progress, slow but steady, the parts on the car now are not glued yet there just sitting there for fun. The brown and orange paint is probably the closest two paints i could possibly buy right now, also some of the body panels are still a bit rough and will need a good sanding/repainting in spots. Its kinda funny though, my dad ended up seeing this and it was eerily nostalgic to him for sure! guess im hitting the nail on the head. Soon im going to be taking a look at my other 240z kit and most likely borrowing the door handles and stock rims off of the kit as my next 240z build is most likely not going to need those.
  7. This is super cool! just dont get it T-boned! Id say if your going more for a race car look the "really old Japanese looking things" look the part, however for an more authentic late 70s, early 80s ish rebuild id say the work equips you got have that 80s ish look to them. However if i did this car id go Watanabe or bust all the way, i just love the look of Watanabes.
  8. Lol, either that or recreate the scrap yard in the photos!
  9. Ill be interested in what you and Modlbldr come up with!
  10. Nice car! What year? My dad also mentioned to me that his carb air filters had more of an oval squarish shape to them, do you know what kind of air filters were on your car? just curious for reference pictures when i decide to make them.
  11. Perhaps yours and my dads came from the same factory?
  12. Yeah it was painted previously. Brake fluid has worked pretty well for the past few kits, however this paint job was super weird. underneath the blue paint was almost like a "magnetic to plastic" silver goo. I managed to get most of it off, but yet it seems i missed a few spots on the fender, regardless i need to re strip the body and hood, At least all the other body panels worked out fine. And yeah it is a shame about his 1:1 240, But according to him, he got a date with the girl who hit him last. If you need any inspiration how about putting a V12 in your kit? or make one more Nascar like, V8, full roll cage, etc?
  13. Sorry to have been away for a bit, progress is slow but at least is still progress. The original interior was actually a beige corduroy, i dont think ill be able to do the corduroy but i definitely can do the beige. Turns out I ran out of beige (which was a custom colour of mine) so the inner rear wheel humps int painted what it would have looked like. I also made a polystyrene ignition coil, also wiring it, pretty much finishing off the engine bay and all the wiring. Also the bod is finally primed, except for the fact that the primer on the hood got completely messed up. Currently right now, Im still trying to figure out the oval air filters, but i have given up on the LHD.
  14. Wow looking great! love the rim and tire combo!
  15. Hay no issue and no problems, i can always make the engine exhaust pipes/hoses work. regardless glad your enjoying the work done! at first i thought the wood lights looked too small, but after some time it doesn't look as bad.
  16. Still waiting on some parts, but the wood lights definitely look killer along with the horns on the front.
  17. so got some more progress done, im sill having fun trying to figure out how i would go about the oval air filters. however this is the progress i got so far, rear suspension is done, brake lines are done, electrical for the most part is done as well as most of the engine hoses and such are just about done. iv been stripping the paint off of the body panels for the past few days, hopefully will be done soon. I assume any new, modern Nissan brown and orange would match the original Datsun colours relatively close, and if i get some paint hopefully soon i can apply it.still have to do some touch up spots around the batterie and lines but all that will be within some time.
  18. They were originally steel, but according to him he was able to get the fiberglass for far cheaper and easier to repair then buying new steel fenders. I actually managed to snag 2 of these kits, the other im highly considering building in the future.
  19. Actually i know exactly what car that is, a friend of mine bought one, i believe it was imported at one point. nether the less a good looking car, wouldnt mine owning or building a kit of one myself. That or a 70ish Mitsubishi GTO
  20. Lol its not that clean anymore, the picture doesn't show but i did indeed add some Canadian grade rust, wear and tear to the block and trans however that was just after this picture. But as much as im trying to add realism to the wear and tear of the vehicle I do have to consider that im trying to recreate a well kept daily driver in the 80s. And wait a minuet... you have a 240z?
  21. Woolights just came in, already painted the one, looks like i can finish this very soon.
  22. Yes it is! Its quite an interesting kit, definitely a fun build.
