Accurate hood.

Hi Paul, Good news for the hubcaps !. Yeah you're right, the overall body and hood of that Revell Eldorado are a bit boxy. Like you, I am also way more interested in shape accuracy and proportions than some openings nor detailed chassis. I have no interest in building a motor either. The upper horizontal body line is a complicate detail to achieve cause it's already starting to gently curve until the upper rear bumper ends from the A pillar. On many 59 scale models, ( like 1/43 Spark Models 59 Cadillacs ) manufacturers have made that curve to start after the door(s) so it gave the model a square overall line, like a break. The shadows on that 1/1 flattop helps to see how delicate this curve is and how it is the exact extension of the front top fenders. Anyway I am sure you'll find a good solution for the hood, and hope your kit to be a success. Your job on the rear bumper grill is fantastic too!. For sure a 6 window version would interest me a lot, as well as a Coupe DeVille. Now I am probably letting my passion for Cadillac pushing my dreams too far but I'd also love so much to see any Cadillac limousines from 1963 to 1976 to be created someday...Problem is that 63 to 70 JoHan's coupe Deville are rare and expensive to use as donors, no Deville series from the 70's have ever been made except the 76 from Modelhaus, and frankly my skills are very limited for such conversions. Anyway! Please continue to share your work !

Hi Paul ! WOW !!! great conversion !!! The car looks great, roof is awesome. Indeed, apart from refining the beginning of the side panel strip right after the front arch wheel, the body is perfect. I can't wait to buy one !. By the way, as your kit is made from the Monogram Eldorado version, are you going to offer the proper and accurate series 62 hubcaps to fit your conversion? Don't give up the great work!

1960 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz
Jeffcad replied to Jeffcad's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Hi Craig ! Thank you so much for your help. I am quite sure it was a basic white spray from Tamiya. And the layers were quite thin. Nothing fancy here. I will also have to remove the paint on 2 other rare Cadillacs from my collection, a 1960 Eldorado Brougham from Modelhaus and a R&R 1962 Coupe deVille. If you have good advices, it's really appreciated. I never had to remove a paint from a resin nor a plastic model before, and, because those kits are scarce, I don't want to ruin them. -
Hi everyone, Here's a 1960 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible. This beautiful resin kit was created by Shawn Carpenter, based and converted from the Monogram-Revell 59 Eldorado. I built it at least 10 years ago. This is an extremely rare kit and at the time of purchase, it was already hard to find. Although she's presentable, that Cadillac will receive a complete restauration, as my skills were so-so back then. Need a new paint, clear coat, cleaned windshield and new bare metal trims. I don't have any further informations on Shawn Carpenter nor its creations so if anyone of you have some, please feel free to share. Hope you'll like the pics. Cheers.

Hi ! Here is my very first Cadillac conversion, made a couple of years ago. JoHan only produced Eldorado Coupes from 1971 to 1976, so I took a old "76' Eldorado Rancher" kit to make this specific version. As 1978 would be the final year for the full sized Cadillac Eldorado, I wanted to make the highest trim level. The "Custom Classic" was very distinctive with its 2 tones exterior body and also a duo-tone pillowed leather interior ( done with clay ). 2000 Classics have been built that year, only 25 with a sunroof, like my version. I unfortunately couldn't get the exact same colours at the time I built the model ( Arizona Beige and Demitasse Brown Metallic ) but I tried to get as close as I could. As she's my first conversion, some mistakes here and there..., like a missing "Eldorado" script on the front edge of the hood. Rear bumper and taillights have been modified, as well as the rear window. Shock absorber fender and trunk lines sculpted. It was so fun to do though , but putting the 1mm black line decals on fenders ?....no so much !

Thank you very much Bill, and thank you all ! I'd love so much to see Revell or any manufacturer starting to do Cadillac kits again. Except some ( sorry but totally boring to me ) Escalade and customs nor Lowrider models, and apart of some good but niche makers here and there, there is nothing anymore since JoHan. I would love so bad to see some 1970's sedans and 1960-1976 limos. I've got Modelhaus's Cadillac models too, as well as very rare resin kits but it's a pity to realize and understand that the demand is so small than no maker wants to go that way again. And design licences are maybe hard to get from Cadillac too so.... . I am looking forward with high interest Paul Hettick's Cadillac kits !!!

Thanks Pat ! Yes, I'll show most if the collection and conversions, a little bit at a time, as well as I creating them and restore the rest. My entire collection slept for more than 15 years in boxes, some Cadillacs need some love back.

Hi everyone ! Here's one of the last conversion I have done in 2018. As JoHan Models have made Cadillac Fleetwood promos only from 1958 to 1962, since years and years I wanted so bad a 63 or 64 Fleetwood to add my Cadillac collection. So I started this one from the Convertible kit, and have used a old twisted donor model for the roof. Lower body trims are created with styrene rods and strips. Interior is not perfectly accurate, I am still learning ! She's almost done, some details to add, such as mirrors and scripts here and there... Hope you'll like it.

Hi Ron, thanks ! I am really looking forward to see your conversion with the 71 Cadillac. It's a conversion I would like to do too. Please share with us once it'll be done.

Hi Robert, thanks for your nice words. For the door panels I have simply printed some various HD wood textures on a grainy paper and then cut them to shape like the 1/1. I am not satisfy though with the flat white leather inserts. In real life, they are padded, not flat like my model. Still have a lot of things to learn and try to push details further

Thanks very much !

Thank you very very much !. Please share your '76 when you'll have done it !.

Very nice Caddy !

Hi again ! JoHan has never made the convertible version of the 1974 Cadillac Eldorado promo, only the Eldorado Coupe. So, after finding a damaged one for sale a few months ago I thought about giving that poor promo a new life, as a convertible. I have tried to push some details that Johan never did, as to carve on the model the front and rear choc absorber lines on the fenders, and to give the interior some life, with detailed front seats and door panels. The Caddy received a new paint and some new white walls. Don't know how to photo-etch or create decals for scripts and emblems yet but I'll come to that soon. Hope you'll like it !

Thank you all very very much !!!

Hi, putting this pics into the good topic. Here's my personal conversion of a 1964 JoHan's Cadillac convertible into the Eldorado model. I am a beginner but I think the result is decent enough to share. Hope it'll please some of you. Thanks !

Hi ! First day on the forum, first attempt to post something. I am a "Cadillac only" collector so I'll post only some of mine and hope to see some of your creations too. Let's start with one of my personal conversion, a 64 Eldorado, made from the Convertible by JoHan. Hope you'll like it ! Thanks !
