  1. What if the idiot TV people had picked some other car, so we wouldn't have had to see hundreds of Chargers written off?
  2. Fairy Power Spray works well for stripping enamel - got that tip off another forum. Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is the best I've found for stripping Halfords paints.
  3. All the AMT cam covers I've got are hopeless, being too long, too narrow and too tall. The Johan ones also look wrong to me. They appear to be symmetrical, where the 1:1 covers are a left and a right, with the plug holes offset. I hacked up the ones from the '33 Willys, making them shorter and wider. They look 100% better proportion wise, but I lost some of the engraving and haven't got around to finessing them yet. I'll dig them out and post a photo if anyone's interested.
  4. This is great, brings back memories of my early trips to the US in the late '70s. Where did the wheels & tyres come from? I've been looking for something similar for a wrecker.
  5. Not until 1969. A '68 383 would be turquoise. edited for spelling.
  6. The car is easy, but the exact year? Need some more thought on that...
  7. I'll only buy one if it comes with the hardtop. I really hope they don't pull some cynical marketing strategy and issue it without, while planning a later release with the top.
  8. It has potential, given a hell of a lot of work... I have zero interest in a DoH model (when I was 12 maybe, but certainly not now), but it would be nice to have a big scale Charger.
  9. OK, go easy on me... I know a lot more about old cars than I do about trucks. I've sprayed a couple of colour coats on the frame. I was thinking of doing the cab this colour with some kind of white stripe design. There's a long way to go on the cab yet - still unsure about what steps to use. I might just use the kit parts, but I'm thinking about filling the gaps and making some simple stirrup steps. Any suggestions?
  10. Hi all, this is my first post in the truck section. Since returning to building models, I've started a few cars, but now I've got the urge to build a truck. I ruined a few truck kits in my youth, usually by attempting mods which were beyond my capabilities, so I've been collecting some unbuilt ones to replace them. I have fond memories of building the Freightliner - my first truck kit - when I was 11. For this build, I've got the same Pabst issue I had back then. It's going to be built mostly as it comes, but because I can't build anything straight out of the box, I've extended the frame 1/2", dropped the headlights to the correct position and removed the out of scale rivets from the cab. I'll get some photos up later, but there's not much to see yet - the frame is in primer and the cab still needs some filler.
  11. Sorry, I didn't know the Gunze kit had no engine... I guess that leaves the Mini as a source.
  12. These look like early Hemi valve covers.
  13. Yes, the hardtop roof line is completely different from a sedan, but 210 and Bel Air were trim levels, nothing to do with body styles. Revell makes a Bel Air sedan, which is probably the best kit to start with for a Project-X replica and I would guess this is what the OP was referring to.
  14. I know people always say this, but I would buy several if that Olds kit ever came out.
  15. The Minor, AFAIK did not have a separate chassis, it had monocoque construction. The engine was a BMC A-series, so one from a Sprite would be OK (single carb though), but I think the gearbox is different. Front suspension is also different - the Minor had torsion bars. MGBs had a B-series engine and Triumph used their own engines, so neither of those are suitable. That said, although I am British, I actually know more about American cars from that era, so I'm sure someone else will chime in with more useful information.
  16. It's a reissue and can be quite a challenge to build, due to the multi-piece body. I bought one used and the body sides were too warped to save... Apart from that, it has decent detail for an old kit.
  17. I agree with the comments on the MPC flip nose '57 'vette, Revell '56 F100 and AMT's '69 Chevelle. My 'vette remains unfinished, the F100 was junked and the Chevelle got hacked into a short tracker. I have a soft spot for the Revell tri-fives, especially the '57. I sold all my new tool AMT '57s unbuilt because they look too big and the detail is too soft. To add to the list, for poor fit I nominate the following: AMT '51 Chevy - had three of these and all had warped chassis and poor chassis/innner fender/firewall/body fit. Fujimi Countach - apart from the whole thing being unnecessarily fiddly to build, the major flaw is that the doors don't fit and the hinging doesn't work properly. If I ever summon the enthusiasm to finish this one, it'll have the doors fixed open. For ugly: Revell '69 Mustang - what's going on with that front end? I couldn't fix it, so it became a chassis/inner fenders donor for an AMT '69 Cougar.
  18. The car in the movie is referred to as a Dodge, but is actually a '65 Plymouth. MCW has resin bodies.
  19. Public transport might be viable for those who live and work in big cities, but for the rest of us, driving is the only practical way of commuting. I wish we could be paying the prices you guys are quoting - we were paying more than that 10 years ago.
  20. The road surface looks so flat and uniform, I'm saying model. Must be a 1/8 though?
  21. I think it needs a dropped front axle, and the bed definitely needs to be channelled as well as the cab. I haven't Z'd mine at all, and it sits fine:
  22. That did cross my mind, but on balance I thought spindle mount wheels on a dune buggy seemed odd. Then again, I have no interest in dune buggies, so what do I know?
  23. Popular subject lately! Looks good so far. Mine too, it was the first Lindberg issue. At least it's a fairly neutral colour.
  24. Thanks for your comments. I was thinking pearl white for the tonneau & interior too! The colour is Peugeot Blaze Yellow from a rattle can.
