  1. The AMT blower looks a little small to me, more like a 4-71? I think the Revell blower on the AMT engine might work - it is at least as long as the engine:
  2. Bump for some progress photos. Turbo is installed and I've started on the new DynaCell unit.
  3. I've changed the plan on this and decided to add a turbo. Not wanting to rob parts from another kit, I modified the exhaust manifold and scratched up a turbo, aftercooler and inlet duct. I'll also make up a new Dynacell air cleaner with the inlet on the opposite side - there's a photo of this setup in an early '70s brochure.
  4. Weight distribution? It doesn't even look good with the engine that far forward. "Hemini" has been done before anyway, with a proper engine in a real Mini:
  5. Guy with an big ego built one fairly interesting car nearly 50 years ago and thinks the world owes him a living because of it. He must really be deluded if he thinks someone's going to bankroll him moving and setting up a "large shop" at his new house. If anyone wants to give me money to move to a new house and build a large shop, i'm all ears...
  6. Anyone else still getting these? Every time I start a new browser session, Firefox tells me not to come here because it's a reported attack site. I know that's been dealt with, but Firefox seems to disagree for some reason. https://www.stopbadware.org/firefox?hl=en-US&url=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.modelcarsmag.com%252Fforums%252Findex.php%253Fact%253Didx
  7. An update. I'll take better photos when time permits. These should show the narrowed front track and lowered headlights. The cab still needs a lot of work... I've decided to fill in the step openings, so that's next. I'll make stirrup steps out of wire.
  8. Thanks for the replies, good information. I've already removed the rivets and wipers, so at least I'm on the right track. I think I'll do this one OOB, then try another one, backdated to the lower mounted cab with a different engine and a stack intake.
  9. If only he'd used rectangular headlights, he'd have the full house of ugly. I'm sure he would think this one isn't a real hot rod, because it doesn't have flames, or Weld Wheels, or half the Summit catalogue bolted on.
  10. From what I've read, the Cummins became available as an option in '69. I also found this: http://www.olddodges.com/literature/lseries/69l3.JPG Note (l) at the bottom says "Air brakes mandatory with diesel engine".
  11. Nice, I have similar plans for mine, if I ever get around to it.
  12. Bumping a two year old thread (a) so I can find it and (b ) because I've finally found some time to do more on it. Engine is mostly complete and I've mounted the front wheels. Rather than narrow the axle, I ground down the hub mating surface on the inside of the wheels and took some material off the brake drums. I was toying with the idea of swapping in a DD V8 from another kit, but wasn't sure what to do with the air intake. I wanted to add an air intake stack and frame mounted air cleaner, but couldn't find any reference photos. How common was the front air intake?
  13. No progress here, but hopefully I'll have time to get on it again this week.
  14. Looks to me like someone painted them, and none too well, either. I believe the Moving Violation kit is from the '70s, and the Hot Rod release was the last one before the MK reissue.
  15. Got some primer on it. Firewall still needs lots of work.
  16. I love how that sits, but if I can offer some constructive criticism, that engine needs to be set back so it's not in front of/over the axle, even if it means notching the windshield.
  17. No major progress, but I'm creeping up on it. I've got the new cab almost blended in a roughed out the B pillars. It has M/T cheater slicks on the rear now; I'll probably stick with these.
  18. Cadillac in the 5W, Studebaker in the roadster (4 bolts in the valve covers). The Buick is in a Model A, if we're being picky...
  19. I dislike these newer ribbed wheels, but I'd still rather have them than the one piece Japanese style. How is having no inner bead detail an improvement?
  20. Nice clean work! For future reference, if you want to be prototypicaly correct, the idler/tension pulley for the blower drive should go on the slack side of the belt i.e. the left side, when looking at the front of the engine (car engines rotate clockwise).
  21. The weather has warmed up enough that I could spray some primer on the Ranchero. It wasn't as bad as it looked, so most of this filler will come off. I forgot to fill the old door lines, so I'll fix that on the next go round.
  22. That's the best use for these things: turn it into something else. I had the coupe version and I remember my disappointment when I saw the body... i had the idea of using it for a comp coupe, but in the end I threw it away.
  23. *Still* no I beam? Argh! I was all set to get a couple of these, but if it's another rehash of the tube axle & air bag setup, I'll pass.
