  1. Well said, Art. I'd be happy to see more '60s AMT and MPC kits reissued. As it happens, I just got the '61 yesterday. I plan to bash it with the '60 to make a full detail '61 Starliner.
  2. The instructions are on the DPMCC site here: http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/instruction_sheetsh/instruction_sheets/amt-8/amt-1966-chevrolet-/#media Looks like a Ford FE (in a Nova? ), but doesn't even have a distributor?
  3. Nice job on that. The Jo-Han one looks much better than any of AMT's efforts, but I see they still got the plugs in the wrong place on the passenger side. The covers are not symmetrical on the 1:1
  4. Let's see: '64 Dodge CSS pickup - in plastic, I know about the resin kit '68 Coronet R/T or Superbee '57/8 Ranchero, not the old Revell kit '57 Buick '57 Olds
  5. Couldn't find the covers, but I came across a work in progress photo in my Photobucket album. I hadn't done the plug holes yet, but they had been reshaped. Shown with a stock AMT cover, which is from either the '66 Galaxie or the '68 Shelby Mustang.
  6. 300 that wouldn't have been wrecked if not for a TV show... sorry, but buying up cars just to stuff them into the ground and wreck them is beyond stupid. Being in a TV show or movie isn't one of my criteria for a car being cool either; I'll admit that Bullitt made the Charger look good, but DoH does just the opposite IMO. If anything, it would put me off owning a '69 because I couldn't deal with people asking me when I was going to paint it orange.
  7. Agreed. I'll be giving the "half-reissue" a miss.
  8. I've bought the odd thing from him, but his website is a complete nightmare. If he removed all the "SOLD OUT SORRY" clutter, that would be a start... I don't need to know what he hasn't got.
  9. I wish I knew where you could pick up current issue kits for a reasonable price. I just keep an eye on Ebay and hope to pick up the odd one from a private seller for £10 or less. I can't believe anybody buys those I keep seeing listed for nearly £30. It must be nearly a year since I bought any direct from the US - I bought eight at once and after shipping and import charges, they worked out about £18 each. Before I quit the hobby the first time, I was used to paying £4.99 - 5.99, so it's hard to adjust to current prices...
  10. Thanks for the replies. I'd like to stick to 1/25, I have a hard enough time seeing what I'm doing without going to smaller scales. I'll think about the Illini resin conversion... it looks nice, but it's pricey.
  11. I stumbled upon this photo and it's got me daydreaming about trying to build it - I think it's a cool looking rig. Is there anything in resin for that old cab & hood?
  12. I only use it for stripping Halfords paint & primer. If it's recent paint, it'll wipe off with IPA on a paper towel. Otherwise, it might need to soak for a day or two (in a closed container, obviously). That'll soften it, but then you still need to scrub it - it won't flake off like enamel. The Fairy stuff works much better on enamel.
  13. What if the idiot TV people had picked some other car, so we wouldn't have had to see hundreds of Chargers written off?
  14. Fairy Power Spray works well for stripping enamel - got that tip off another forum. Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is the best I've found for stripping Halfords paints.
  15. All the AMT cam covers I've got are hopeless, being too long, too narrow and too tall. The Johan ones also look wrong to me. They appear to be symmetrical, where the 1:1 covers are a left and a right, with the plug holes offset. I hacked up the ones from the '33 Willys, making them shorter and wider. They look 100% better proportion wise, but I lost some of the engraving and haven't got around to finessing them yet. I'll dig them out and post a photo if anyone's interested.
  16. This is great, brings back memories of my early trips to the US in the late '70s. Where did the wheels & tyres come from? I've been looking for something similar for a wrecker.
  17. Not until 1969. A '68 383 would be turquoise. edited for spelling.
  18. The car is easy, but the exact year? Need some more thought on that...
  19. I'll only buy one if it comes with the hardtop. I really hope they don't pull some cynical marketing strategy and issue it without, while planning a later release with the top.
  20. It has potential, given a hell of a lot of work... I have zero interest in a DoH model (when I was 12 maybe, but certainly not now), but it would be nice to have a big scale Charger.
  21. OK, go easy on me... I know a lot more about old cars than I do about trucks. I've sprayed a couple of colour coats on the frame. I was thinking of doing the cab this colour with some kind of white stripe design. There's a long way to go on the cab yet - still unsure about what steps to use. I might just use the kit parts, but I'm thinking about filling the gaps and making some simple stirrup steps. Any suggestions?
  22. Hi all, this is my first post in the truck section. Since returning to building models, I've started a few cars, but now I've got the urge to build a truck. I ruined a few truck kits in my youth, usually by attempting mods which were beyond my capabilities, so I've been collecting some unbuilt ones to replace them. I have fond memories of building the Freightliner - my first truck kit - when I was 11. For this build, I've got the same Pabst issue I had back then. It's going to be built mostly as it comes, but because I can't build anything straight out of the box, I've extended the frame 1/2", dropped the headlights to the correct position and removed the out of scale rivets from the cab. I'll get some photos up later, but there's not much to see yet - the frame is in primer and the cab still needs some filler.
