  1. Stopped by my Ollie's today before work and picked up ×1 MPC 72 GTO (need the body only) ×2 lindberg 32 ford roadsters (good wheels and engine ×1 AMT Datsun 280zx ×2 MPC Dodge Daytona (awsome deep dish torque thrusts with TERRIBLE chrome) ×1 MPC 49 Merc snap kit (looked cool) All for about $50... I love Ollies!! Last time they had a big batch of the lindberg dodge B-bodys the color me gone and the Maverick 330's. I didn't give anyone much of a chance on those, as I think I bought nearly everyone they had. For less than $150 I think I bought around 16 of them.
  2. I had a pretty good haul today... When the wife was out doing some shopping, I decided to leave for work early and I stopped by the local Ollies... I'm sure many of you already know that Ollie's sometimes gets some decent kits at prices that will nearly make you pass out trying to get your wallet out... Today's haul consisted of ×1 MPC 49' Merc Snap kit $5 ×2 MPC Charger Daytona (Super deep dish torque thrust wheels that will have to be stripped because the chrome has serious issues) $8ea. ×1 AMT Datsun 280zx $8 ×1 MPC 1972 GTO (not a great kit, but has a decent donor body) $8 ×2 Lindberg 32 ford roadsters (decent wheels and great engine!) $8ea. So, for around $50 I scored 7 kits! Some that will be built and some for the parts box. Then, I swung by Michael's and took advantage of their weekly coupon and got a Revell 69 Camaro Z28 RS for $10.28! But wait... theres more!!! So after that I stopped by Popeyes had a tasty chicken sandwich, then proceeded to Hobby Lobby, where I exploited there coupon for a Revell 69 Boss 302 mustang for like $16 I finished the day off with a trip to Hobby town, where I resupplied my Alclad stash (turns out the stuff is produced locally) So for around $100 (not including lunch) I got 9 new kits and a fresh supply of Alclad primer, base coat, and chrome. Fantastic day!!
  3. That'll be the the day... and unfortunately (not to be a cynic) I do not think that day is coming. On a positive note, I hope to get some stuff up in the "on the bench" area here pretty soon.
  4. The only ones I saw were 1/24 and they did come with tires. On a 1/25 car they still should look pretty good.
  5. Haha I turned 29 this year... but I've just got an "old way" about me I guess. Guess that comes from being raised by "old" folks and working with/around/for them my whole life. Who needs the internet when you have a bunch of "old heads" to pull info from... walking encyclopedias let me tell ya. One of my dearest friends was 89 (he is now passed on) but man I learned alot from him.
  6. Holy smokes... that one Esci kit will take a day or two!! Good news is, I was scrounging around through the stash and found a set of tires that may just work inside the old MPC 72 GTO kit... The rears are the Goodyear bluestreak "stock car specials" and the fronts are simply goodyears... so I'd say after sanding the tread down to get more of a slick they should look nice. I emailed fireball, so waiting to hear back on the minilites and some sweet Holley double pumpers. You've got me excited now. I want to see that esci escort "under glass" or at least on the bench... get it going!
  7. Yea the cuda looks fantastic, I may like the little ford even better though... I used to have a 1:1 lol... fun car! Had the little cosworth engine. That's a good gouge on those kits... as I may have an old Cobra kit, I'll have to check and see what rubber is inside. Gonna try and order some wheels this afternoon. Thanks again, and great looking models!
  8. Honestly, I think I've only met 1 other builder...(that I know of) and it was a very brief interaction... as I was buying a large quantity of paint from him through Craigslist. But, I get your point and hope that one day I too have a rolodex of friends in the hobby.
  9. Those definitely fit the bill! Did you get the tires, from fireball as well? If so, looks like a one stop shop for me! Thanks, and that Cuda looks awsome!
  10. Hey everybody, my name is Leroy (I go by Bo) I've been building models most of my life of a variety of subjects, including military, auto, figures, and wargaming miniatures. (I do not play any table top games, Ijust enjoy painting the minis) I grew up around my dads body shop, and have loved cars since I was able to walk. I've always enjoyed working with my hands, and have done the 1:1 thing enough at this point in my life to know A: I do not have the money, and B: I do not have the time. I still have two 1:1 "Hotrods" So, I decided several years ago, I'd try and create through models what I cannot in 1:1 due to time and cash constraints. The thing I love most about this hobby is the patience it has taught me, and the avenues it provides for my imagination and constantly evolving ingenuity to run wild! I get such a sense of accomplishment from modeling, and in my daily life have few people to show my creations to who are actually interested or who can appreciate what it takes to produce a decent model. (the wife supports me, but has no interest) My skills aren't on the level as alot of the members of this forum or of some pro's, but I feel I produce models that I am very happy with. I have never personally attended a show, however 2 of my builds have, and I placed pulled a 2nd place and a peoples choice when I was around 14. I unaware of any club or group in my area, and my job keeps me from traveling or taking time off. Just in the last few years I was completely unaware of the modeling "scene" at large... I had no idea about the aftermarket end of things, or the majority of modeling products. So alot of my building has been very D.I.Y. and alot my skills and techniques have been carried over and "scaled down" from my 1:1 experience... especially in the paint/body end of it. Anyway, enough rambling. I'm just happy to have a place to share my work with people who can appreciate it and allowing me to soak up the vastly large pool of knowledge here. Sincerely, Thanks for having me. -Bo-
  11. Hello, I'm new to the forum. The name is Bo. Hoping to become fairly active here on the forum as I do not do standard "social media" or youtube... I've been building for most of my life off and on, and I'm finally getting the results I want... enough rambling though, and on to the question. I've got a couple projects I'm doing up as Trans Am racers. I have a 69 Camaro and a 69 Mustang I'm thinking Minilites for the Mustang and Tourque thrust Ds for the Camaro The torque thrusts shouldn't be hard to source, I have the amt 61 impala kit I could rob some from as they seem a good match. The minilites though, I am at a total loss... As far as tires, I'm in need of the proper good year rubber in the staggered configuration. Anyone know where I could get these items, I would really appreciate any help! Thanks.
  12. Since a few folks pointed out the lack of chrome, I didn't even notice that because I was admiring the chassis... then I noticed you forgot the oil filter! LOL!! I hope you don't work at Jiffy Lube or Pep boys! Hahaha, just ribbing you a bit.
