  1. I think I may have a touch or OCD when it comes to paints. I can't really explain it, but for some reason I have an issue with having paint. When I started heavily back into modeling about 9 or so years ago, I started buying up everything I thought I might need for building/painting etc... at this time I was mainly doing figures and armor. I became pretty obsessive over Vallejo paint... as In even if didn't see a need for a certain color I had to have it anyway or else I felt "incomplete" and unprepared... So I amassed every color in the model color range that could find... most have never been opened. Later I stumbled onto a HUGE lot of Model master enamels both bottles and cans... enough paint to literally last me a lifetime... So why am I still buying more... why am I still collecting more obscure colors for no apparent reason? I think I have become a "paint collector"... is that even a thing? Even though I KNOW they are excellent paints I'll not even try Tamiya acrylics, because they are more difficult to come by where I'm at, and I can't buy a few bottles if can't buy them all... or else I feel I don't have "enough". Is this some weird compulsion? Anyone else suffer from this? It really drives me crazy sometimes, because I would like to use some of this stuff but can't get past the psychological barrier that I have seemingly self imposed. Maybe I'm insane...
  2. Thanks, wish I still had the original. But this one came out pretty darn close.
  3. I think the ones in the kit represent an "8 stack" of side draft Weber carbeurators. Sorry, I made a mistake... this is actually a "4 stack".
  4. Truly superb paint and foil work on this... love that color also. Can't wait to see it all buttoned up.
  5. I built up one of the 64 330s a while back with the "plain Jane" look or so I thought... This was actually my first attempt at BMF... turned out ok for my shelf anyway. The only thing I did to signify it was a "racer" is add the white stripe on the slicks. Can't wait to see the Savoy "under glass" You got a color picked out?
  6. I would really love that, but sadly my job doesn't allow for travel or any off time really as I have no one to "fill in" I work 6 days a week on night shift... for no "benefits" and mediocre pay. But I love it. I've literally been the only reason we have remained in business for over 10yrs. It's both a burden and a real honor. So finding time to just build is a challenge most of the time. Between work, the wife, the house, the pets...thankfully no kids (yet) so bench time is slim.
  7. Thank you Tom. I plan to both absorb and contribute as much as possible here. That's why I said "sanctuary" as I have finally found some place where I can share my passion for modeling with others who care and share that same passion. Its nice to have people to share with. Hope to be here a long time, and hope I can make many new friends here. And who knows maybe I can attend a show someday if I ever have the free time? I do not think my builds are "show worthy" at this point, but I'm slowly working on it. Since my return to automotive modeling much has changed, so I've been trying new experiments and techniques on each build I've done since I've been back. I'm gearing up now to try and produce "show quality model"
  8. I picked up a few of the old MPC kits recently, mainly to rob some really nice deep dish Torque thrusts out of... (the chrome is completely shot, but that would be stripped anyway) But now you are making me want to build one.
  9. I have watched the show, yes. I just don't know about this one Snake, its ALOT and I'm just not motivated enough to get it done at the moment, but I'll try and look for some inspiration today and mull it over. The wife is getting me a polar lights 66 kit for Christmas. That one will take a long time as I really wanna nail it, and actually paint the stripes rather than decal. Also light it as well.
  10. Nice work, love that blue!
  11. Yea, I'm not big on sports myself, I always enjoyed drag racing both as a fan and a brief participant, and I used to really love boxing... not so much anymore as its fairly dead. But my wife is a College football nut for sure. We live down the street from Phil Fulmer, and run into him on occasion. My wife is jealous because she hasn't met him. I did have him sign a bowling pin for her though, wich is also in the shrine where the VW resides.
  12. Thanks friend. I gave it to him Christmas before last. It was my first Car build in quite a few years as I had been doing figures and armor for several years wich I got pretty good at. I'm still trying to "catch up" with the cars. Spending all my life with the 1:1's burned me out on them for several years. I didn't even want to think about a car let alone model one. But now it's my main focus, and each one seems to be getting better than the last. Thanks man. Thank you for the kind words. I'm not sure what kit he originally scored the wheels/tires and engine from, but I'm thinking maybe the 57 Sportsman? I wish I had more of those big Goodyears for a future project, but I'm happy I got to put them to use in this way.
  13. There was a guy here around town, (I live a few minutes from the stadium) that drove one very similar... it had orange steelies and baby moons with white walls. Speaking of that I forgot to add the White wall decals! Wow, I wondered why it looked off.
  14. Thanks alot. It was just something I noticed when putting the interior together... figured why not?
  15. Here's the culprit glue blob... The whole car is wired with about 78 strands of fiber optic iir. That's what made the glue blob all the more devastating. Here she is... the Blundermobile. I'm honestly not sure after pulling it out of the box tonight if I'm really prepared to tackle it... It will take copious amounts of bourbon and midnight oil to get through it. Feel l like I should just stow it back away. On the bright side, all the lights still work/sequence and change color properly.
  16. Thanks man, it's not flashy, but neither was dads.
  17. So my wife got to pick a kit for me to build her, so naturally she picked a beetle, and naturally she wanted it all "Big oranged out".. I'm not into football at all, and my wife is a football nut, go figger... So here's the little beetle, took less than a week so that was cool, time is hard to come by. This is the Revell kit, I'm not sure if its entirely accurate, but it is a very well made kit, good detail and great fit. The only thing kinda vague is the rear firewall assembly, other than that, fun kit to build. Want another one for rat rod. the Endzone cargo tray I thought was a neat idea when I realized the pattern was already there. I made a "clear" orange shifter knob Added nothing to the engine, except a little detail painting. It's ok for a quick "no frills" build, main thing is she is really happy with it, and it looks good with the rest of her Vol shrine.
  18. That is both shameful and hilarious ? To ad insult to injury, it wasn't even Coke, it was Diet Coke... for the Caped Crusader!! If all else fails, I will PM you for that decal ?‍♂️ Come to think of it, I could slap a Joker decal on the blemish from the "Goon car" decal sheet... Lemonade from lemons I guess? But seriously, I will PM you if need be lol!
  19. When my dad was a kid he was a modeler, he built quite a few cars. He later went on to become an excellent bodyman/painter and the owner of his own bodyshop. When I was a kid, around 12 I found a box of his old models in a storage shed at my grandparents house, and I spent a whole summer "restoring" them and putting them back together where things had fell/broke off etc... There were probably 100+ cars in that box. At the end of the summer, I took the box to my dads house and neatly placed every single car on his stone mantle that wrapped around his living room before he came home from work as a suprise. He was overjoyed when he opened the front door. Sadly, he was married to a very vindictive woman who did not like me at all... They had a argument one evening and she waited until he went to work one morning and then smashed every single model I had put back together, including his "masterpiece" a 66 nova dragster he had built when he was about 19. While rummaging through some old things, I managed to find the wheels and engine from his old Nova, and I had recently acquired that kit... so I thought, I'll try and recreate his for him. This is what I ended up with. It actually turned out like his to the point he thought it WAS his and that I had somehow resurrected it... (I was smashed well beyond repair) This was the most significant moment in my modeling "journey". I didn't go for modern "perfection" or "show quality" I went for what my dad had built when he was 19yrs old. The biggest joy I have gotten from building models right here, was to see that look on his face that he had all those years ago when he came home from work covered in paint and bondo dust. My biggest inspiration.
  20. Welcome, I'm new here as well. I'd be happy to help you comprise a "shopping list" of the essentials and other supplies you will need to get you off to a solid and more ENJOYABLE start. If it's one thing I am good at, its compiling and hoarding tools/supplies! I have made it a point to find nearly every deal or"freebie" I can find that is applicable to this hobby, as I am married to the most frugal woman on planet earth, and I have managed to accrue/ build what I would consider a very respectable "setup" and stock of needed materials. When I started really getting back into the hobby about 9yrs ago I found I was vastly underequipped in the tools/supplies department and it had led to more frustration/work/ and overall less enjoyable experiences and quality of models produced. I had a acquired alot of kits that I would have surely doomed to failure had I not stepped back and realized the tools/products I had were not nearly adequate to produce a decent model. I think for around $100 you could put together a fairly respectable "setup" that will be far more enjoyable from a building standpoint and results wise. I'm sure many others would also help in this area, as we have all been at that place where we had either very little to work with or the wrong stuff to work with in the first place. I will advise staying away from both the Testors ENAMEL spray cans, as they are a disaster waiting to happen more often than not. The paint inside is great stuff, I use it almost exclusively (decanted for airbrush use) , but that mode of delivery should almost be criminal. Not saying good results can't be had, but if you have little or no experience with them, you are setting yourself up for costly and extreme disappointment. This is one of the most rewarding pastimes/hobbys I have ever been a part of in my life, and up until these last few days, no one has really saw my work but me and my wife, friends and immediate family. If I can be of any help, just let me know. And I know the fine folks on this forum are more than happy to help with anything they can. Welcome, and happy modeling!
  21. Thanks for the warm welcome gentleman, it's nice having a place to share builds, and exchange ideas. Lots to learn here, I'm hoping I have something of value to contribute.
  22. Use a NEW generic single blade disposable razor... Put some masking tape over the outer portions of the blade leaving the center exposed, so you do not have any mishaps while handling... While being very careful make a few gentle swipes and it should take the lettering away without causing harm to the rest of the sidewall. I find it best to stop just shy sometimes and finish with varying grits of sandpaper using very light pressure. Hope this helps.
  23. Cool build! Love those weaponized headlights! Need a welding helmet to look at it head on! Lol Funny thing is, if someone were playing "chicken" against you in it... they would surely win as they would think they are already dead and seeing the "light"
