Yea, I've had to work on too many of the earlier year 300s that had electrical issues... makes me shudder everytime I see one! But yea, the 345 cube Hemi can be a mighty poky beast with a few "minor" mods. The heads flow HUGE numbers at fairly low lift... they far outflow a LS6 if they have the same cam profile. Pretty sad feeling knowing all but the most potent of beasts of yesteryear can't really compete with a modern V6! Hoping I can get this one done before Christmas.

That thing looks pretty sick tbh... great job!!

Haha, it really was my bad missing your actual question. And as far as the "Webers" go... unless Dr. Evil was working for AMT I'd say it's a fair possibility they weren't sure! -
Bare with me on this one, it's my first ever "build thread/log" I was at Ollie's a few weeks back and naturally I picked up several kits. Among these kits an MPC 69 Daytona amongst several others. I'm not as familiar with all the car kits as most of you all, as I've spent most of my adult modeling time on figures and armor. But, Scalemates and Google make for quick learning. So not knowing what to expect, I open this thing up to discover what (imo) seems to be an excellent example of tooling that is in a state of decay. There is flash in all the wrong places, parting lines that are petty knarly and sink marks that I may use dura glass on... joking about that last part, but seriously lots of bodywork in my future! I plan to mostly Kitbash/scratchbuild this thing where practically all that will remain of the original kit is the (modified) body. I'm going to be using the Drivetrain out of the AMT 05 Chrysler 300c... not completely ideal (i hate the 300) but it has a modern Hemi/trans (that can be made very potent IRL) in it, and this is a "low buck" build that is really just a test of my skills to see if I can successfully merge the two. I plan to use most of the interior from the 300 as well with a few exceptions. So this will basically be a 300c in Daytona skin. Here she is, I'll be posting more progress pics when I get off work.

Wow, now I see what I did! I honestly do not know how I missed that Haha, for some reason I was thinking he was only asking about the configuration of the carbs... Perhaps I need my eyes and brain checked out! ?♂️ -
Head set magnifier recommendations???
LL3 Model Worx replied to 2zwudz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I use this cheap set here... cost me about 8 bucks on Amazon. I bought 2... in case I break one or lose it. It has 2 different magnification lenses that flip down... and a "jeweler's loop". The little headlamp works decent, but not too great for painting, because it gives off a blueish light so you cant get a good sense of color. I mainly use them when doing 1/35 figure painting with the headlamp feature off. -

I definitely didnt have this one... I think it may have been an older release I had? For some reason I wanna say this is the one I had that contained the alligator and with optional drag parts and decals. -

I didn't know the particular brand of supercharger...lol I was mainly just talking about the carbs/configuration as that is what I thought OP was asking about. But I do own an old GMC 8-71 I got for free... Salvaged it from under an old lady's back porch. Said I could have whatever I find. Found two old Offenhauser intakes 1, I think is for an Oldsmobile and the other a Chrysler. All this stuff had probably been there since the late 60s... but all in darn good shape, as it was all sealed in wooden crates wrapped in tarps. Better stop now, I ain't no jacker... lol -

Not a bad idea, having spare parts is always good. A fairly nice set of a similar setup can be found inside one of the 57 Chevy kits...I do not recall wich one. (had it as a kid) I do remember the kit came with a small alligator figure. In fact I still have the model itself in a box somewhere. If I remember correct, it has that "sidedraft" setup on a supercharged 348... -
Yea, I honestly didn't even think about the ones I had being 69's I just remembered they were Daytonas'/Superbirds. You post actually made me realize it... I'm thinking about cutting one down and making it both shorter and a touch wider in the rear quarter panels. Kind of a short stubby muscular "road racer" that's "street legal" perhaps with a more modern drivetrain and suspension.
-
Na, they are MPC "69" Daytonas'.... Peter's build just made me want to build one. Sorry for getting your hope's up... I don't believe MPC ever made a 70 superbird.

The repair looks pretty good... you could always clip the sway bar off entirely and bend some wire for a new one and a little dab of CA glue and your good.

Fujimi is the only ones I've seen that are "worth while" and they are not without need for modification... especially the Ferrari. I see the price and availability of these kits becoming scarce and a bit ridiculous in price after this film honestly. I considered getting a few of each kit several months back when I heard about the film, but decided against it, as it will likely be an oversaturated subject like many others... Who knows I may still get a couple to eventually build one day?

Oh but each new build I start with a freshly organized and cleaned bench... to have it revert back to the same 6x6 area in the matter of an hour! But I try! -

Well if you ever need add one model master paints I'm sitting on thousands of bottles... -
Now Steve, you mean to tell me you can't appreciate a nice Ranger bass boat? Lol... maybe that's what he's goin for? If he IS Randy Hanson the guitarist, I could totally see this being "over the top" as the intent!
-
Lookin like you are having fun so far... I'll stay tuned! You wouldn't happen to be Randy Hanson the guitar player would you? That would be too awsome!
-
I did not know that. That is really awsome! When dad told me he painted them (before I was born) I didn't believe him... He found out that one of the originals was at the Ripley's museum in Gatlinburg, TN (right up the road) so he took me up there to show me his thumbprint under the right rear quarter panel... blew my mind!!! He was only about 18 when he painted them, I think he did 4 for the show. And what would you have to have for that kit? I think we aren't supposed to discuss sales, but I think it's ok in PM right?

I appreciate the reassurance! But do those guys have that stuff because they use it or because they had to have it to fill some "void"? It irritates me so bad, because their are products I would love to try but I refuse to let myself because I can't just have 3 colors... I have to have 300! It feels totally irrational but I can't seem overcome it. I'm sitting on somewhere north of 2000 bottles of paint and I catch myself buying 2 jars the other day at Hobby Lobby with no real rhyme or reason, probably already have 20 jars of that color... but now I have 2 more! Makes no sense to me. I'm just curious if others are like this? -
Thats awsome man. I'm right at the base of the smoky mountain national park. Blount County. I'd love to go to shows... as a participant or even just a spectator! But sadly work will not really allow. Thanks for the welcome, and yes I grew up with the 1:1's... I painted my first one at 9yrs old... a 1955 Willys CJ5... OD green (imagine that lol) When it comes to 1:1 paint and body I'm pretty well versed... my dad was the original painter of the black Daytona Spyders used in Miami Vice. I grew up in his shop and worked there pretty regular most of my life. We had 6 Sherwin Williams commercial paint mixing machines in our basement, so I spent most of my time mixing paints and trying to match colors for various customers and projects. I took up modeling when I was around 8 and was fairly steady until around 15... then stopped for several years due to the 1:1. When I came back to modeling I took up armor and figures, as i was pretty burned out on cars. Now that I'm married, bought a house and am too occupied time and money wise to fool with the money pit 1:1s (still gottem) it's back to the small scales lol. So I'm trying to learn all the modern "techniques" of car modeling... I'm progressing each and every build so that's good. When I was young I would just shoot models with the big HVLP... results were fantastic. But that's honestly not very rewarding because it's too easy lol... I like having to "work at it" then I feel I can be proud when its finally done. Sorry for ramblin...
