This is my favorite Rex White car because he won the championship in one some what like this.

Trying to build a reasonable facsimile to the real car that Fonty won with in 1955. All I have are 3 fuzzy black and white photos to go by so its going to be a guess on most of it. I do know that the body color is red and black. So far since I took these pictures I have finished the interior ,engine, wheels and tires, and frame. The body is primed and ready for paint and I have done the artwork for two of the contengency decals and both left and right quarter panel sponsor decals.

Thanks for the comments, guys! This started out as a Revell 1940 Ford standard coupe. The one with the green car on the box. I had to change the grille and headlights to look more like a 39 standard coupe because that was the car that Lloyd Seay drove. I also had to scratchbuild the tailights because they were different as well. The interior was also different but there was no way I could scratchbuild a 39 steering wheel so I didn't bother to change anything else about the interior. The bungee cord was made from jewelers black elastic thread that is used to make bead type jewelry. First I colored it with a silver sharpie and then with a gold one. You can get it at Hobby Lobby. I created the decals with my old Adobe Photodeluxe and printed them with an ink jet printer using the Testors white decal sheet. Thanks again!

Bruce , If I had not read the book this model would never have been built. I just wish somebody would make the book into a movie. What about Tom Hanks to play the roll of Raymond Parks. Of course they would have to make him look a lot younger than he is. Matthew McConaughey would be perfect as Lloyd Seay and Tom Cruise could produce the movie since he is interested in racing. He was at the Nascar banquet sitting with Jeff Gordon and his wife. He could play the part of Roy Hall. I'm not sure if Tom Cruise could do a Georgia Accent but I'm sure the other two could.

Chris, you are correct but I e-mailed them and they only have the color for airbrush use. and the cost plus shipping is a lot higher than if I can find the ford color, windveil blue, in duplicolor rattle can locally. It looks like a pretty close match.

Someone sent me this picture to work from and I know the car was 1962 Pontiac Ensign blue which is the same color as 1962 Chevrolet Nassau blue, which is pictured below. I'm trying to find a rattle can match to a modern color and I found this picture of a Mustang from Conor1148's signature line. Does anyone know what year the Mustang in the picture is. Does the Mustang and the Chevy look pretty close in color? I thought they did.

I like to build model cars because I like to have miniature versions of real race cars I have seen in the past or would have liked to have seen back then. Its like having a 3-D picture of something rather than an 8X10 glossy on the wall or in a magazine or an image on the internet. I have also heard that working on intricate things as you get older may just help save your mind from succumbing to diseases such as Alzheimers. Plus its just plain fun.

Thanks George. I finished the decal sheet and who knows, with this long weekend coming up, I might get to finish this project.
