1941 Willy's Pickup
Zippi posted a topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I was looking for my next build and this Monogram '41 Willy's Pickup kit (2013 Release) just kept catching my eye so here we go fellows. I cracked the box open and cut a few pieces off the tree. Everything looks pretty decent. I have a couple colors in mind which are the Tamiya TS-57 Blue Violet and the Testors Extreme Lacquer Purplelicious. I have never used any of the testers Extreme Lacquer paints so not sure how they spray out. And...what's the odds on the decals being any good??? -
Well fellows....I'm still waiting on the decals from STS. Tomorrow will be 8 weeks since I placed my order.

The ole Shoebox Ford turned out pretty nice. I'm diggin the 50 Chevy pickup on the shelf pulling the U-Haul trailer.

That 48 is looking good Pat. That color looks Great. -
I really like that color scheme. Nice build.
-
The 60 Impala is looking the part. I really dig the old school rides. Nicely done.
-
Good looking 57 Ford Fairlane Anders. That color combo looks nice.
-
That looks really nice. The craftsmanship is second to none. I'm liking this one.
-
That's a Looker right there Lin. Very well done.
-
That's starting to really take shape Ken. That red is showing it's true colors against all that chrome.
-
I hear ya Ken. I'll be 71 on my next birthday. I appreciate the kind words Buddy. I'll drag it across the finish line but I'm now trying to put things away outside for the winter like the rain barrel, water hoses, concrete bird baths, rug on the back porch, flower pots, etc.
-
Yup, I'm missing that tree.
-
Well....I was looking over the 50 Olds this morning to see what is left to do and I do not see the door handles. I painted all the bright chrome an Ultra Black Chrome and I can't remember if I painted the door handles or not. I don't even see the chrome tree with the numbers on it. So, I'm assuming I through away the tree. I normally don't throw anything away until I have totally finished a build. But, I guess I did. Couldn't find anything in the parts box that looked right so this build is going to the back of the bench until I can come up with some replacement door handles.

The ole Shoe Box Ford is coming along nicely Jim.

Ford 34, a street hot rod who did not reach the finish line

That's looking pretty sharp so far. I dig the ole Hot Rods. -
Thanks man. Yeah, that was a bad time when the bmf company was having difficulties with their vendor. The bright Chrome I've been using is fine so I guess this pack of Matte Aluminum had been hanging there for some time.
-
Thanks man. Yeah, I guess it's not for everyone dude.

I hear ya. I have two hobby shops on the same street a half block from one another.

3D printers - is it worth it?
Zippi replied to customline's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've been looking into 3D printers a lot lately and really like the Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra. I've been doing my research on what resin, how to clean parts, and how to cure parts. Also I've been ready on forums about printing in a cold environment ans using an onboard heater. I'm seeing a lot of failed prints in the cold environment settings. Anyone printing in a cold environment and having success? -
I like to support my local hobby shop and from what the owner is hearing bmf hasn't been shipping much lately. I think they be having issues again.
-
Well...I decided to just polish, polish, and polish some more on the hood. I was going to strip the wax off the hood and re-shoot a coat of clear but I was afraid I'd mess it up. If you fellows remember a while back the whole community was having issues with the bmf not sticking and tearing due to the company changing vendors. Well, I think I got an old sheet of the Matte Aluminum bmf from my local hobby shop because this bmf did not want to stick and it would tear really easy. I'm going to have to go back over the body and see if I can patch some pieces in where it doesn't look all that great.

That's a pretty kewl looking body style. Nice mods.

Good looking Willy's. That's a nice shade of yellow.
