  1. Yeah, good idea. Besides, that's what I'm going for here. "Funny". LOL
  2. Love it Virgil !! Looks great. At first I thought the tires were too big. But not now. After a short while, I decided I like them. ( I would add just a tiny bit of dirt to the fenders and around the bottom edge of the car.)
  3. Rob: I love what your doing with this car !! Your doing a great job. The interior is magnificent ! Here is a suggestion for you. It's just an idea. And maybe I'm too late with this idea. How about if you decoupage an old map, or pirate maps on to the outside of the car. Like this: Add the maps to only certain sections of the body. You could seperate the mapped area with a border. Maybe a wood border. Kind of like I did here with this car: I know the body of the car is very rounded, so you may have to create a border of roap or something else. Just an idea..................
  4. I decided to go with some sort of circus theme. So I need some clowns. I found these clown figures on EBay. They should work OK, they are supposed to be about 3 inches tall. While waiting for the clowns to come in the mail, I think I'll build a clown car. Here are some pictures I found for ideas. I'm going to use this kit. I have a new casting of this kit (with no box) from Stevens International.
  5. Welcome !! STOP ! Turn back NOW. Don't start building model cars. It is very addictive. There is still time, you can save yourself. If you build that Revell 49 Merc, you'll be lost forever.
  6. I found some wheels on a toy at the thrift store. And now I have a cannon.
  7. After looking at this figure for a while I decided that this guy looks like he wants to fly. So i decided to shoot him out of a cannon. So I'm walking through the sporting goods store and look what I found. A perfect cannon shape.!!
  8. I love the look and feel of this diorama !!
  9. Great layout. I like how you used the figures.
  10. Great looking diorama !!
  11. Great work on that tarp. I'll be doing a tarp soon, thanks for the inspiration !
  12. The brick work looks great !! The electrical looks great too.
  13. Oh yeah, I saw those drivers a while back. Nice ! The upper part of their bodies are very well done !!!
  14. That's super Joker !! I Love it ! I really like Homies. They have lots of personality. ( I just don't like to see them used when someone is trying to replicate real looking people.)
  15. Hey wait a minute. I think you have something there. Yes, Revell does make scratch built kits. They take plastic materials and they make a kit out of it. So most of us do build scratch built kits.
  16. Good idea. I'm thinking a clown / weight lifter in a circus..............
  17. OK, here is the story behind this build. At the 2011 GSL Scale Vehicle Championship and Convention in Salt Lake City I was putting on a diorama building seminar. During the seminar I said that most Homie figures should not be used for dioramas because the proportions of most of these characters are out of scale. They are primarily cartoon figures. I have found a couple of Homie figures that are in scale and not cartoonish. However, like I said most of them are not good for dioramas. Well, as it turned out one of the seminar attendees had entered a diorama in the contest that had several Homie figures in it. Oops, how embarrassing! The attendee was very gracious and we both had a good conversation. For my penance, this attendee gave me a Homie figure and challenged me to build a diorama using this figure. And have it finished by the next GSL event. So this thread will be my attempt to build that diorama and have it finished by this coming April 2013. Actually, I hope to make quick work of this and finish it in the next couple of months. Here is the figure I was given: So now I have to figure out what to do with it. Of course it is somewhat out of scale and cartoonish for 1/25th scale. Here he is standing next to a 3” (6 foot) 1/25th scale figure: The upper part of his body seems to be in scale and not so cartoonish. One of my friends suggested that I modify him below the waist like this:
  18. Gee, it's rare when a person can torture Dr. Cranky. Maybe I should let him twist in the wind for a while as I try to figure out how to take advantage of this new found leverage. Or, I may be nice to him and just start posting some progress photos on the diorama thread.
  19. No. But I'm a long time member of the group. You might be thiking of Jim Wood.
  20. Do you mean to say that they gave you an oven, but you had to pay for half of it ?
  21. This thread was sounding bad. Now, thanks to you Dan, it also smells bad................
  22. Made From Scratch By Jane Moore My mother never let me help much in the kitchen. As a result, my cooking ability was practically non-existent when I got married. But, I did remember mother mentioning that she did make cakes, pies and other things from scratch. So my first trip to the supermarket was to buy some scratch. I found the isle that read baking items and spent a good 15 minutes looking at everything from vegetable oil, sugar, flour and chocolate without seeing a sign of scratch. I was sure it wouldn't be with the pickles or the meat. I asked the clerk if they carried scratch. He looked at me funny and finally said, "You'll have to go to the store on the corner." When I got there it turned out to be a feed store. I thought it rather strange, but I decided cakes were food. "Do you have scratch?" I asked the clerk. He asked me how much I wanted. I suggested a pound or two. His reply was, "How many chickens do you have? It only comes in 20 lb bags." I really didn't understand why he mentioned chickens, but I had heard mom say she made chicken casserole from scratch. So I bought 20 lbs and hurried home. My next problem was to find a recipe calling for scratch. I went through every page of my lovely "Better Homes and Gardens" cook book - wedding gift. I looked and looked for a recipe using scratch. There I was 20 lbs of scratch, and no recipe. When I opened the scratch, I had doubts that a beautiful, fluffy cake would ever result from such a hard looking ingredient. I hoped that the addition of liquids and heat the result would be successful. I had no need to mention my problem to my new husband. He had mentioned early in our marriage that he loved to cook and would gladly take over anytime. One day he made a pie and when I told him how good it was, he said he had made is from scratch. That assured me that it could be done. Being a new bride is scary and when I found out he made pies, cakes and even lemon pudding from scratch...well, if he made all those things from scratch, I was sure he had bought a 20 lb bag of scratch also. But I couldn't find where he stored it, and I checked my supply. It was still full! At this point I was ready to give up because all the people knew about scratch except me. I decided to try a different approach. One day, when my husband was not doing anything I said, "Honey, I wish you'd bake a cake." He got out the flour, sugar, shortening, eggs and milk, but not a sign of scratch. I watched him blend it together, put it into a pan, and slide it into the over to bake. An hour later, as we were eating the cake, I looked at him and smiled and said, "Honey, why don't we raise a few chickens?"
  23. Based on my on-line TV guide it will be on again at 9pm tonight, Speed Channel, Channel 31, COX Cable, Phoenix, Arizona.
  24. Actually I could care more, but I don't. When I am at my workbench, I'm always building and scratching.
