Thank you guys for your help with the tarp ideas !!

Need Help. What material is good to use for 1/25th scale tarps? I know how to make a tarp, but I'm not sure what material to use. What has worked well for you? And Is there some kind of material that can be used without soaking it in a glue mixture? A material that will drape over the car in a natural way without the glue? Thanks. . . . .

I think I need to add some of my Charcoal color, but I'm not sure how I'm going to proceed. I'm still experimenting. As you can see I already darkened up the workbench. . .

I downloaded some pictures of a drill press. And then I built this. A table top drill press. As it turned out, I felt the drill press looked a little too large for a bench top style. I think I made it a tiny bit too large. So I decided to convert it to a floor model. It looks much better as a floor model !! . . . .

Thanks Charlie, good suggestion. However, I want to be able to blend and shade using alcohol so I'm using brushed on acrylic for everything. Later I'll show how well alcohol blends in acrylic paint. . .

Dreaming of a model?
Hollywood Jim replied to jmpsebring's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have dreams about models all the time. In fact last night there was this blonde model who was calling my name as I watched her pose for pictures. And then when I asked, "what's your name" she walked over to me and....... Oh wait ! You mean model building! Oh OK..... Never mind. . . -
The next thing to do is decide on what colors to use. I only need two, a light and a dark color. After some experimentation I decised on an antique white and a dark charcoal gray. The walls came out to about 16 feet high. I thought they were too high and I shortened them to 10 feet. Which is more like the garage I remember from back in my childhood, 1950's. Building the workbench. . . . .

help from the pros
Hollywood Jim replied to camarofreak82_427's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is no glue on earth that will hold a diamond in a setting for any length of time. No way, no how ! A diamond must be held in place by the setting itself. It is sort of clamped in place by the setting. If you are losing diamonds out of your setting that is a serious problem. You will eventurally lose the diamond. I know because this happened to me. You need to find a setting that will firmly hold the diamond in place. And find a good jewler. . . . -
Oh yea, I remember seeing that one. Really cool !! Especially if your old enough to have watched TV in black and white. . .

Yeah Crank, OK, OK, I got the outside walls up. But it's time to knock it off and spend time with the family. . . . .

WOW, those are very helpful. I'm making a list of junk I need to put in the garage. Pictures like this give me some ideas. THANK YOU !! . . .

Yeah that's it, except the body of the car will be red. Hey ! How did you do that? Make everything black and white except the car... ? . . .

OK, Here we go. The framing has begun. This will be an old wood floor garage like those built in the 30's and 40's. It will be like the one my father had. . . . .

Here are some of the parts for the car. I made stock interior door inserts. The guy who is building this car got a Hemi engine from a wrecked 1955 Chrysler 300. Here is how the car looks today. . . . .

miniature hinges
Hollywood Jim replied to skysoldier46's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
When the hinge is open and lying flat, it's 1/4 to 1/8 inches wide. OK, I'll check my local store in the next few days and see what they have. I'm sure I will find one that will be about 1/4 inches long but then that's not a piano hinge. Can you tell me what is the shortest hinge you will accept? 1/2 inches long ? 1 inch long? . . . -

Now your screwing with my head !! LOL Sorry, those 1/25th scale rulers confuse me. The hing that you need is how long and how wide, in inches ? -

There is a doolhouse store near me. If I knew "exactly" what you needed I could buy them for you. -

Find a store that sells dollhouse items. Most of the stuff will be 1/12 scale, but you will probably find some hinges that will work. Also check to see if they have smaller scale stuff. Usually called 1/2 scale or 1/4 scale. . . . -
Hey guys, here is my next project. I’m already a few weeks into this project so I will post some progress pictures in the next few days so you can catch up to where I am in the building process. My inspiration is this drawing I found on the H.A.M.B. Forum, drawn by Jeff Norwell. I want to do a 1/25th scale garage diorama all in black and white except for the car. The car will be the only thing in color. I did some mock-ups so I could see what it would look like and determine the size of things. I started with the car. The garage will depict a scene from around 1957. The car will be a period correct 32’ Ford. Something like this: The first thing was to create a correct stock frame. A stock frame is pictured on the bottom. I started with the Revell frame on the top. In the middle is the Revell frame with some modifications. . . . .
