While my primer is curing on the body I started work on my dash gauges and telescopic steering column -
-
I’ve moved to some interior fabrication while my primer is curing on the body. I started by drilling out the gauges and making new bezels out of aluminum tube. I also made a wooden steering wheel and a telescopic steering column using different sizes of aluminum tubes. I printed some gauges off google and next I’ll be making a touchscreen radio
-
I did a small flare in the front, their just pinned up at the moment with some aluminum tubing, I’ll probably set the final stance in the next couple days
-
The fabrication is complete, now that I’ve settled on a set of wheels it’s about time to start putting some paint on it?
-
I put a lower spoiler on the front fascia, it still needs some fine shaping. The ZR1 wheels are just an idea I’m trying, not 110% sure which wheels I’ll ultimately be using, the suspension in the front is a bit narrow with the fender flares I added, so I’ll have to extend the spindles about 1/16 of an inch.

AMT/MPC/Revell 1973 corvette from scrap parts bin

They used the same hood as small block cars in 73, but I only had a spare flat hood from an old amt annual kit, so I molded the 68-69 L88 scoop on it, I also had to remove the wiper door from the original 71 body -

A little more progress on the 73, I got the chassis painted, for the most part, still have to detail it, but it’s starting to take shape -
Got the first coat of primer on the body, and test fitted the radiator and engine. Everything fits pretty good, still have a bit more body work to do, but it’s coming along pretty good so far.

I’ve made a lot of progress on the chassis, the skid plates are almost done and the wheel base is set, still have to make a rear wheel tub and rear pan under the body, but so far it’s going smooth

I decided to do a cannonball run build this year, so out of all the options I figured why not build another corvette. This is going to be a completely different car than normal. I’m thinking it’s going to be heavily modified, with a full C5 drivetrain and suspension, with a fixed roof. I started with a basic 68 roadster and glued the roof in place then removed the excess convertible deck lid, then filled all the parting lines and rear vents. I removed the front 1/3 of the frame and glued the C5 frame rails in its place, it took a bit of work to get the alignment right but once I was happy with it I added some strip styrene to reinforce it. The rear of the frame was removed and I had to trim a lot of the C5 rear tub to get it to fit, now that I’m happy with the fitment and wheel placement I’ve got to fabricate the fuel tanks and possibly a rear skid plate. As for the center section of the frame it’s the kit 68 chassis, I made a skid plate to cover the center section of it. I want to do the body in bright pearl green with a Baldwin motion style metallic grey stripe, with either bright red or silver pin stripes, I’m also thinking about extending the hood to the windshield to eliminate the wiper door, I think it just looks cleaner that way. I’m also going to strip all the chrome and do it all in gloss black, not 100% on an interior color yet it’s a toss up between caramel brown and dark grey.

I got started on the FRC corvette, I started out by glueing the hard top in place and the removing the excess hatch from the inside. I also added the rear quarter flares to help with the wide tires. Then I used filler and resin to seal up the part lines for the roof and hatch, along with the vents on the deck. -

AMT/MPC/Revell 1973 corvette from scrap parts bin

I got a little work done on the engine over the last couple days, it’s almost completely wired up, still have to put a few small pieces on. But I’m pretty happy with it being that it came from the first silicone mold I’ve ever made. Now that I know a little more about mold making I’m going to make a few smaller ones for the smaller detail parts instead of one big mold. -

I agree, my favorites are definitely the chrome bumper cars, I’ve got 74-82 in the line up tho, my goal is to build 1953-1982. A couple challenging ones are the 73 and the 61, which I think will be the next one I tackle. -

I got the body polished up, and the BMF on the windshield frame. I got the engine block assembled and painted, I’m pretty happy with how well the resin pieces went together. -

I got the body painted and cleared, it has a bit of solvent pops, I don’t think I let the water base paint cure enough before I put the clear on, so I put it in the dehydrator and it hardened up, now it’s time for polishing and some chrome foil. -

I sprayed the base color down, but I noticed some really wavy body lines, so I resanded the body and got it straight, now I think it’s ready for paint. -

I got the body in primer, still have a little bit more body work to go, but over all I’m happy with the progress. -

I started mixing some paint and came up with a green I’m happy with, it’s not a spot on match by any means but I think it has a good shading quality. Hopefully it hides some of the goofs in my bodywork? my big lock stock it running out so I made a mold of a revell 427 and a few intake carb combos. So After about ten attempts I finally got a couple good castings that weren’t full of bubbles. I also trimmed the new chassis so it will fit the body and the wheels are centered. So with all the fitment issues addressed it’s time to put this one in high gear? -

Thanks for the warning, I don’t have any inner fenders from the original body so I’m going to have to modify some revell ones, and they don’t fit, luckily the interior tub fits relatively good.
