  1. Steve, Great idea, I never would have thought about heating and bending styrene to replicate rubber hoses. I wrestled with the rubber hoses on this model and was not real pleased with the result will definitly try this the next time I have to put some major bends in a rubber hose thanx curt
  2. Dwayne, thank you for the schematics I'm in trouble...now everyone will know were all the stuff goes! Kinda hide the plumbing and wiring in a Top Fuel car anyway...no fenders or firewall to disapear them into Gotta start plumbing if I want to finish this thing for the NNL WEST
  3. Hey "Corvette Truck Guy"...when ya gonna build a 1950-55 Ford pick'em up truck with the guts out of one of those Revell 2006 Mustang kits? The blue oval needs some of your attention c'ya
  4. I want to build Melanie Troxels Top Fuel dragster she raced in 2006 from one of Revell's latest Top Fuel dragster kits. I have the decal from Slixx, Competition Resin goodies, etc to complete the task. Also have a few reference photos from Sears Point (Infineon), but I'm lacking information where all the fuel lines and electrical wiring comes and goes. Building one of these beasts requires attention to adding these componets...but again, I'm not looking for every little bitty wire that goes everywhere. Hope to document as I start building, no guarantees though, cuz the camera and model bench never seem to communicate with each other. thanx
  5. Jerry you ol' hound dog...showin' off again! that's a serious wedgy ya got there lookin' good c'ya at the NNL West
  6. Fantastic... I have really enjoyed following your build of this model you have inspired me to start building the Rislone Special version of this car thanx for a beautiful model
  7. I meant to put salt on the tires, but forgot! problem is the wheels are glued so they don't turn...so i can't spin and salt'em this was my 1st salt flat car, plan on doing more, won't forget the salt on the rubber next time thanx
  8. Brendan I know you from D&J Hobbies, used to work there myself, sad to see Al leave... hoping he might make it to the NNL West, now that he doesn't have to work Saturdays I too, struggle with Carbon Fiber Decals...they never look right, mostly out of scale I use Tamiya's Black Metal Spray Paint TS-40, it has a dark gunmetal cast similiar to Carbon Fiber If not satisfied, like you stated...just decal over it good luck maybe see ya March 1st
  9. Having recieved a few of those sports car kits from Raul...I have to echo his and other comments on adding a Sports Car topic to this forum. If enough of us that build sports cars/road racing models post our work on this forum than logic would lead to adding an extra topic to satisfy the demand...if it's there Sports and race cars is got me started building models, cheaper than 1:1 scale. My building is not limited to one specific genre or scale...mostly all o'er the place, sports cars, indy, F-1, dragsters, street rods, customs, classics, vintage, salt flat, occasional nascar, motorcycles and currently contemplating a 'rat rod' build. Don't see a 'donk' build in the future, but ya never know! Pray tell...if all of the modelers who build 'donks' start posting their work, they might get their own topic as well...just different strokes for different folks guess i'll have to start posting a few of my sports cars in the "Under Glass" forum
  10. Great job on this model of the 57 Chevy Black Widow nice engine detail...hope there's a guy out there doing resin parts for these, I might build some more love the simplicity of cars that raced in the 50' & 60's, NASCAR, INDY, NHRA, etc. Threw in a couple pix of the 57 Black Widow Buck Baker raced in 1957...built this for the 1957 theme of last years NNL West
  11. I love it...the Black Widow theme for the 57 Ford really works where did you get the supercharger goodies for the engine? I built a model of the 57 Ford Fireball Roberts ran in NASCAR and had to scrathbuilt all that stuff here are a couple of pix of model i built...
  12. Hey partner...very, very nice! It fits in with the theme of this build c'ya curt
  13. Nope...haven't changed much, just a little heavier and less hair - actually that's one of the last pictures of me with hair! good to see you old friend on the forum...know let's see what you've been up to
  14. And while you're at it throw in the markings "Gasser's" and "Altered" from as well I enjoy building vintage drag racing vehicles, but omit the markings fearing I might label an "AA" as an "AD", or a "PD", etc. thanx
  15. I have used Future for a number of years and can atest to its ability to flow together when applied with a brush. Have not tried using Tamiya's flattening agent as of yet...but am going to give it a go link to website very helpful
  16. Yep, that's the "Salt Licker"
  17. As soon as I joined the Monterey Bay Scale Auto Association...they invited me to participate in a "same kit" club build and handed me a AMT 49 Mercury model kit. The only instructions was the top had to be chopped. Having never chopped a top before, I accepted the challenge and jumped right into it. I found an article in the other model magazine by Mark Gustavson showing how to chop the merc...followed his instructions and chopped about 3-4 scale inches out of the top. I was surprised how easy it went. This done, my next problem is what do I build. I had just finished watching the film "The World's Fastest Indian". Realizing I had never built a salt flat racer, thought the merc would be fun to build as a salt flat racer. The model was built mostly straight out of the box, using engine, chasis and running gear. Modified the hood, exhaust, added rails to roof line, rehinged trunck, ground tread off of tires, added "Parts by Parks" spun aluminum discs, painted "Goodyear" on each tire, the body was painted using Tamiya Mica Red, Fred Cady Decals and a couple coats of Model Master Ultra Clearcoat finished it off.
  18. I love it, so far...where did you get the offy engine, looks like the one from an old AMT Watson Roadster kit
  19. Yes, catalog only...some sites carry a few of their products they are extremly fast at responding and shipping excellent company to do business with
  20. I wish to welcome you to this forum, just joined myself, being half Dutch...my mother descended from the Vandergift and VanLue clan this a great forum to bounce ideas off other modellers, let them see your work and you theirs Happy Holidays
  21. Raul you really like that SVT hood don't ya I think it's a great fit and modification to the Merc fog lights would finish it off...jus' put a lil' tape on the the bumper, fire up the dremel drill and let'er fly hey, it's only paint and plastic...it's not like you have a lot of models waiting to be built
  22. Trevor...the wheels are from the Watson kit (de-chromed and painted). The tires are "Firestone - Big & Littles" from Perry's Resin in Canada cannot remember where "Firestone" decals came from
  23. A good friend gave me 3 vacuum form bodies and 4 AMT Watson Roadster kits to build for him. He had seen the roadsters run back in the early 60's and was partial to those with the laid-over offy's and didn't care which version I did. Awhile back I had built a Jim Hurtubise piloted Maserati Bird cage for him, so the Demler Spl roadster that Jim drove in the 1961 Indy 500 was a very good candidate. Only problem was - no decals were available for this car, luckily the Demler Spl that ran in 1960 was at the Monterey Historics this year. Took a lot of photos of this car and used the photos to create decals. Having never built the AMT Watson kit before, I built the 1st one straight out of the box using the Indycal decals for the Ken Paul Spl. So here is my 1st attempt at building a laid-over offy roadster. Working with clear vacuum form plastic is not a lot of fun and getting it to wrap around the Watson chassis was a real challenge. Laying over the offy engine was fairly simple, scratchbuilt the intake mainfold, added aftermarket velocity stacks, stole an exhaust manifold from parts box, exhaust pipe is polished aluminum tubing, opened up engine bonnet - hinging it with a small piano hinge, scratchbuilt rollcage and added small tailfin. I used MM's 2 part lacquer Daytona Yellow for color, applied decals and covered with a coat of MM's Ultra Clearcoat. My next subject will be the Konstant Hot Spl...have the Fred Cady Decals for that roadster.
  24. Yeah i couldn't remember if they were out of the 32 Ford kit or not...they were laying in the box with all the leftover spare parts when i dug it out of the cupboard, so assumed that's were they came from...
  25. Boy...I forgot how mean this truck looked you've been a very busy guy...see you all o'er this forum was able to post one of my models 37 Ford Truckster talk to ya soon happy holidays
