  1. Hopefully Round2 will include an MPC sticker with this kit, but I'll buy one just for the box art alone. Here's a look inside an original issue kit:
  2. Any relation or reference to the actual Kookie Kar is 100% intentional:
  3. The Revell kit's body is nice, with a mild chop. Altered States offers a 5-window body if you're thinking of a Mooneyham & Sharp #554 replica: The straight axle (and maybe the spring, too) will need to be scratchbuilt, as the closest 1/16 kit parts are the dropped axles found in the Revell 1/16 Funny Car, Minicraft Model A, and the Pyro T-based hot rod kits. The Pyro parts are pretty nice, at least the front axle and rear quick-change center section. I have plans to cast them, but haven't done so yet. I think the hairpin radius rods could be scratchbuilt, too. I can help you out on the slicks, so please PM me. I bet Jim from Micro Nitro could make you a perfect 1/16 Moon tank.

  5. The M/T Challenger 1 kit is the only kit with dedicated LSR tires I have found, but there were some good suggestions here. The Goodyear Frontrunners are easy to find and would be a good option for a modern/recent vehicle IMHO: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=67004&hl=bonneville#entry825375 I used a pair of the Challenger 1 tires and a pair from the AMT Piranha reissue (which are styrene) on my Avanti project: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=61472&page=5
  6. I think they're $44 now, but they fit nicely on the Midget trailer: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=70846&hl=kart#entry884102 http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=55028&hl=%26quot%3Bgo+kart%26quot%3B#entry641748 Scale Equipment Limited has some options, too, like the Honda Odyssey ATV from one of the Revell van kits (IIRC Sean Stacy casts it, too), so you have options. It would need to be a very small car to fit on the trailer, but motorcycles, cars, and trucks of all sizes run at B-Ville, so feel free to use your imagination.
  7. ProTech and J.B. Motion machine there parts, so there's a lot of precision involved...which is also why they are so superior and far more realistic than any DIY fitting's I've seen. As suggested, Plastruct makes several sizes of extruded "Hex rod" as they call it: http://www.plastruct.com/pages/OnlineCatalogIndex.lasso?-Search=Action&-Table=Products&-MaxRecords=50&-SkipRecords=100&-Database=PI&-SortField=zfsequencer&-SortOrder=ascending&-SortField=zfsequencer&-SortOrder=ascending&-Op=bw&SelectKey=m
  8. At least one Revell Mopar kit has a 1/25 scale Fram oil filter decal...I will check my decal sheets and report back.
  9. I saw the Speed Sport Special at Great Lakes Dragaway in 1988 or so, and the sound coming out of those eight tailpipes was . I may even have a photograph of it somewhere, as I think it was part of Garlits' entourage that weekend.
  10. http://members.ziggo.nl/dwijsman/Invoegen/hawkinsert.htm So yeah, not many in plastic kit form.
  11. Every company is different, as Derick and Dan said, so please don't make a blanket statement about all resin casters based on one company's poor quality product (the Pontiac body in this case, and "poor" is being kind!). There are definitely some kits and parts which should be avoided, and this Pontiac is a prime example of a product which should never be considered good enough to send to a customer. Some customers are willing to accept poor quality products for many reasons (desperation seems to be be the #1 reason), but that only encourages the original caster to keep making poor quality products, which helps nobody in the long run. Without knowing who made this body it's hard to place any blame, but my advice would be to call it a lesson learned, and not waste the time trying to correct it. There is so much wrong with this body, and in so many areas, I fear the time and energy spent would have a far more negative effect on your modeling morale than it did on your wallet. One of the best things this forum offers is the ability for member to provide honest advice and opinions based on personal, first hand experience with aftermarket products. It never hurts to ask before you buy, even it's a part or body sold second-hand (i.e., not by the original caster) on eBay or similar. Just paging through the Resin & Aftermarket section will give you a good idea which companies provide great products and service, and which should be avoided. If you see a name associated with a locked topic in this section, consider it a pretty good warning sign.
  12. I don't think I've seen one like that in a kit nor aftermarket.

  14. I believe this is the original issue from 1964: 1974 "Special Interest Autos" reissue: '87 reissue: 1987 "Rockin' Rods" reissue: First "Elvira" issue: Early '90s Monogram reissue: Second "Elvira" issue from 1997 under the Revell-Monogram label, in which an Elvira figure was included: Currently available version in the Monogram "Car Show" packaging:
  15. Wasn't that part of the ProModeler concept? No wonder we only get two new kits per year from Revell now.
  16. I added the '75(?) MPC Dart Dart Sport above, but the progression is confusing to say the least.
  17. Alan Raab from Ma's Resin is working an a resin kit, but it's not finished yet: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=64370
  18. A five & dime store I occasionally visit still has most of the R.A.M.S. kits on the shelf, but they also have a Tyco keytar still on the shelf from 1989, so maybe it's more about product movement.
  19. R.A.M.S.? http://www.internetmodeler.com/2000/november/first-looks/revell_ram.htm
  20. I wonder if the AMT '71 Plymouth Duster 340 kit will be reissued in 2014 by Round2. Surely someone has test fit the Duster's chassis, etc. under an original or resin Demon body?
  21. We should mention rocketfin.com's 'site, too, which still lists and shows a bunch of OOP resin cast items: http://www.rocketfin.com/resin-model-cars-trucks.cfm
  22. I found this article in the Chicago Business Times while looking for more info on the Power Modeler CD-ROM they briefly offered. There are some interesting tidbits, and I was surprised to read how much Revell-Monogram invested and lost in the Power Modeler idea alone. This is a cached Google page, so it took a while for it to load for me: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:XzH8mgFvfiAJ:www.chicagobusiness.com/article/19940625/ISSUE01/100011836/revell-monogram-rebuilding-after-cd-rom-model-disaster-interactive-losses-hide-restructuring-push-for-licensing+CD-ROM+Power+Modeler&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us Here's a pic of a Power Modeler CD-ROM package: And a Nazca M12 kit with a sticker affixed to the lid, referencing the Power Modeler CD:
  23. I swear I heard mention of this kit being reissued later this year, so maybe an intentional coincidence in Round2's part.
